Gary and GuthrieMoM, I’ve lived in Guthrie for over 25 years and most of my kids have graduated, I still have one in school. Your comments about rubbing it in or envious about the vehicle an opposing fans drives to the game is childish and more importantly classless. The team, Coach Watkins and the city of Guthrie deserve better. If you want to support your community then elevate your standards. Don’t do it by trying to put down or criticize another person. Both teams played a very good game. Guthrie was fortunate to have the game end the way it did. Does that mean they didn’t deserve to win? No it just means their is magic or momemtum or karma whatever you want to call it when the Jays play in Jelsma stadium. Deer Creek has a very good team and probably this year more talent across the board than Guthrie. So just enjoy the win and let’s both beat Bishop McGuinnes. It will make the playoffs very interesting and fun for all and that truly what HS football should be all about anyway

Overpriced cars and clothing? Is it a crime to be more successful than you? Most of DC isn’t rich. In fact, most of the students work for everything they have. Deer Creek has true fans, too. They have supported their boys every season, and every game. What do you think they did after Thursday’s game? That game was incredible by both teams. Yes, there were some crappy calls. All that matters is that there are still 2 weeks left of regular season and then it’s play offs. We’ll see who the better team truly is soon.

Gary, I’m with you. Those DC fans drive all their overpriced cars and flaunt their overpriced clothing while us Guthrie fans do what true fans do. We support our boys when they are down on the scoreboard and we beam with pride when our boys bring the big W. All their money will never amount to what our Bluejays give us every year. I’m not trying to have anything…so are you a player, or a coach, or a manager?

I guess I just don’t see high school sports that way. What’s there to rub in? Have you personally accomplished something in regards to Guthrie football?

Anyway, reply if you want. I’m not coming back. I’ve just never understood that mindset, regardless of the sport or team.

Ryan pretty good summary of game. I do think OSSAA should make sure we have competent crews ready to handle big games. Both teams work hard to be in that position and the crew need to do their job but not make a difference in outcome of games. Head official never got control of that game from start. Both teams played hard should be a good 5A playoffs this year.

Nice Article Ryan. Good points and pretty fairly represented. The only comment I would have is the difference on the inadvertent whistles. The “whistle” on “backwards pass/fumble” play that DC recovered no one heard. The “whistle” on the kick return for Guthrie everyone heard except for the DC player who made the tackle and was flagged for horse collar, I’m assuming.

Anyway in the big picture, both teams still need to beat McGuinness. Both teams will be in playoffs and have a pretty good chance to meet again….on a neutral field.

In fact I would not be surprised to see all 4 of 5A-2′s teams make it to the semi’s. Despite CA’s record I still think they are a top 7 to 8 team.

In years past the Guthrie / DC game has always been just another blowout that was never really that interesting. After this years once in a blue moon winning season for DC… With all the crying and whining from the DC fans I will be a little more anxious for the Guthrie / DC game. Next year after DC graduates 3/4 of their team, and we get back to the blowouts…. I will spend a little extra time rubbing it in… Yeah, can’t wait.
