Wow, Norman North and Santa Fe sure made statements last night. Should be interesting for Union tonight with their injuries, and facing that surprising Sand Springs team (not to mention they still have BTW who is improving week in and out). As much as some of these other programs have kicked it up a notch, all remaining equal (injuries) and of the eastside teams still look super tough, and Jenks maybe playing the best of all. Could be an interesting next few weeks.
And again, 5A is looking like a barnburner here on out!

Quinton,
Or you don't pay attention to 6A football. Union's losses: Euless (Texas) Trinity and Owasso; Jenks' losses: Union and DeSoto (Texas); Broken Arrow's losses: Bentonville, Ark., Union and Jenks; Owasso's losses: Broken Arrow and Jenks.

These teams have losses because they've played brutal schedules so far. There's no doubt in my mind those are four of the top five teams in the state right now.

Scott,
I'd have Alva just outside right now but the Goldbugs have a chance to move in the next couple weeks. That season-ending game vs. Hennessey will be a fun one.

HOW ABOUT A LITTLE LOVE FOR THE ALVA GOLDBUGS-I REALIZE THEY ARE NOT USUALLY A FACTOR IN CLASS 2-A BUT THIS SEASON THEY DO HAVE THE NUMBER ONE RATED QUARTERBACK IN 2-A, THE NUMBER ONE RATED RECIEVER IN CLASS 2-A AND THE NUMBER TWO RATED RUNNINGBACK IN CLASS 2-A. THE ONLY LOSS THEY HAVE SUFFERED IS TO THOMAS- A TEAM THAT HAS NOT LOST A REGULAR SEASON GAME IN LIKE TWENTY FIVE MEETINGS. A NEW COACH THAT HAS THEM BELIEVING AND A FAN BASE THAT FOLLOWS THEM TO AWAY GAMES, THAT MOST OF THE TIME OUT NUMBERS THE HOME TEAM, SETS UP FOR A GREAT SEASON END THAT INCLUDES DIBBLE(WHAT A MATCH-UP OF NUMBER ONE AND NUMBER TWO RUNNINGBACKS ) AND HENNESSEY FOR A FINALE- OUR BOYS LIKE SEEING ALVA'S NAME IN PRINT- AND DESERVE TO HAVE IT. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

Jenks is playing good because they are healthy for now. (Should be #1) I think Owasso is playing really good and having seen them play a couple of times should be #2 Then Union and BA.. Edmond North is a good team just don't think they are consistant enough to be ahead of these 4 teams. I think its a pretty close with the top 4 from the west with either lawton or edmond north coming out on top! JMO...

Ken,
I love the job Jeremy Dombek has done there. Last year was a great season, ending with the one-point loss to Union. But the way those East teams are playing right now, I would pick any of the top three over Edmond North right now. 6-0 is an incredible feat but there's no doubt the East schools are superior, at least year to year. Also, it's bloc.

Eastside,
I'm interested to see how that game comes out but I think that will be the case.

John,
Outside of Midwest City in recent years (and we all know that's not the case this year) Lawton has been the West's top program consistently the last few years.

Mike,
I'm not a homer for anyone. Last week, it was the East fans who were riled up. I just rank due to an overall picture of the season to this point and this is what I think. I talked to multiple people who saw Edmond North-Yukon and not one of them said I could put Edmond North No. 1 after that. Yukon is much better than their record but the Huskies have to play better than that consistently to get the top spot.

CD,
Appreciate it. 5A is really interesting. A Del City-Carl Albert game in the first round will be a heck of a game if things finish as expected.

Ryan,
When you're comparing teams that don't play head-to-head, margin of victory is something you've got to look at. Heck, the OSSAA uses it in its tie-breaking formula.

Patrick,
Thanks

Expert,
I wouldn't argue with that. Jenks is playing better than anyone else right now. I don't think Lawton could beat any of the East-side powers (I said as much even when they were No. 1) but I still feel comfortable with where I had them. I wish QB Dallas Seely would've been able to play last week or this week vs. Edmond Santa Fe.

TJ,
I understand about those two districts. Davis, though, has outscored its opponents 262-25 (including a win over Heritage Hall). Vian has been even better, outscoring its opponents 357-16. They won't be challenged much in the regular season, admittedly, but Vian's closest game so far has been 55-7. I do wonder how they'll respond in the playoffs once they get to a team that pushes them for four quarters.

Rankings looked much better this week than last.....
I know that most Westside teams don't have this issue until they make it at least past round 1 of playoffs, but Eastside teams have to deal with the BIG4 every year in every sport. So the idea that SS doesen't know the difference between playing one of the BIG4 is not true, they know because they play them every year.

I see where some could get excited by Edmond North being undefeated but Sand Springs could make that same argument. However as SS will find out Friday... There is a big difference between playing a team like Sapulpa and playing Union... Good luck to all of the west teams this week!

I need help on something. Why does this article show Del City with 2 losses? I checked a few sites and saw that they all show DC with only one loss. Maybe the 2-0 game against East Central is a mis-print or something. Anybody have a clue on this?

Ken, Edmond North has come a long way, and they are undefeated for sure, but hardly tested beyond Santa Fe. Beyond that Memorial, PC North, Choctaw,Ike,and Yukon ain't Jenks, Trinity, BA, Owasso, Stillwater, and Enid like Union faced (and the last two they thumped). And the shame is such a non-district schedule would have made North a better team come November. They're solid and have a bright future this year if they stay healthy, but they aren't the best in 6A. And you're right, they did just fall short by one last year, as did Lawton in OT the year before, but as you note - Union found a way to win; they more often than not do. Ask Jenks too. Would be fun to watch this year though if Edmond had taken the route years ago as those on the east side and wouldn't have split up - wow! But that's another discussion.

Let's face the facts, Oklahoma 6A is simular to college football. Jenks, Union, Owasso, Broken Arrow are like the SEC top heavy. The Central to Western part of Oklahoma is like the Big 12. With just a couple of good teams and the rest are only good for one year. We always like to say that our top Big 12 teams can beat the Alabama's of the SEC, but it just doesn't happen, same way here in 6A. The central teams come close, but just can't get it done.

Incredible BS. Edmond North has proven to be a winner. Down and never out all they do is find a way to win. 6-0 is an incredible feet. If you are judging by who plays who then consider the fact that EN lost in the playoffs last year by 1 point to one of those supposedly far superior Eastern Block schools.

… and let the rock throwing begin. Well Ryan, I’ll give you this much w/ your 6-A picks, you’re courageous. And right, I might add. Any given Friday night, no doubt Edmond North could knock off one of those eastsiders, so it’s all speculation this time of year anyway. It’s telling that the big 4 - Jenks/Union/BA/Owasso beat each other up, take a few weeks then to hone and recover with lesser programs, and then their season really begins in week 11 (and don’t count out the 3rd’s and 4th’s in those districts, definitely not shoo-ins). The team of the year over here seems to change each year, and on occasion sneaks in a win in the playoffs, but for the most part it is virtually impossible to go through two of the eastsiders in succeeding weeks – lots to prepare and an emotional task to get back up again. They’ve some close - and have the potential this year again in November w/ E-North, Santa Fe, Southmoore, Lawton, Mustang, and Lawton – but I wouldn’t at all be surprised if the big4 from the east are the final 4 again. Until then, who cares? Nice clipping for your scrapbook, but really being number one now just makes you a target. But wow, how the mighty have fallen at MWC!
Now 5-A is REALLY interesting, with Guthrie and EC showing some wobbles this past week. I think McGuinness is really going to be a sleeper, and DC, Mac, and Del City on this side and Coweta and Claremore over there not too far behind. And again – with Carl Albert wounded but always tough if they get their mind in it.
Friday nights are still the best football these days!

I can not believe anyone would have Lawton High #1 in 6A. Did union, jenks, owasso, and broken arrow move or something? Lawton will NEVER be able to beat any of the above mentioned teams, plus a few others from the city. I am from the Lawton area and the team Lawton has this year is not even close to as good as the teams they had the past two years, were they still failed to win it all. Lets face it, yeah they have all lost some games already. But the competition that Lawton faces is nowhere close to the competition that the Tulsa area teams face.

Jenks gave up 14 points to Union in the very first game of the season which was Jenks' QB 3rd start of has career. Jenks gave up 7 points to Owasso and BA and both have great offenses. Keep Union #1 all year is fine with me, but right now Jenks is playing the best. Nice try with Lawton???
