Although your local teams have to play in the state tournament in the first round, surrounding states of Texas and Kansas do not allow a second chance(meaning Fargo had a loss in the Area or Regional tournaments) for teams to play in the state tournament after a loss!

They have a set way of drawing the pairings. The area winners are seeded Nos. 1-4 based on the rankings, while the other four are matched up from there. Teams cannot, though, meet a team they’ve previously faced in the playoffs until the finals, though, so sometimes teams have to be shifted. The bracket has nothing to do with whether the “tournament’s powers that be” want or don’t want two teams from the same county to make it to the semis.

In class B boys it is a shame Fargo and Arnett, schools just 15 miles apart have to meet at state. Why they couldn’t have paired them with Hammond and Forgan, schools they may not have met during the regular season. I guess the tournament’s powers that be are opposed to having two teams from the same county make it to the semi’s, so they will get rid of one PDQ. By the way, good luck to either of the Ellis county powerhouses, where 1/2 of the towns go to state. I will enjoy watching you hoist the gold. —A former resident.
