Bob, there’s certainly room for disagreement on the RB selections. That position was the toughest I can remember in my time being a part of the selection process. That said, trashing Flanders and calling Roberts “some scrub from Norman” makes it hard to take the rest of your comment seriously. Flanders ran for more than 1,000 yards more than Sanders and did it in 6A. Roberts ran for 250 more yards than Sanders (although with admittedly many more carries). Sanders is a fine football player who I think will be great in college but it was pretty clear this year that he wasn’t a first-team running back.

Well their defense has 3 d1 prospects and kept some of the best offenses in the state out of the endzone this season. So the bomber d is bad because they didn’t win a state title? With that moronic comment, I guess We can safely say jenks has a HORRIBLE team since there is NOT ONE PLAYER on their roster who is wearing a state title ring????? In fact, with that comparison, every team besides Tulsa union has a ” sh!t defense”. Right? Tulsa union didnt have their rb on the list. They werent even the best team in tulsa, much less 6a, but somehow got left off..

Sheldon was good, but I was saying no 2a team would play against an average 6a d and have any stats worth mentioning. Carl Albert did this same comparison during their glory days. They won some questionable 5a championships, got their butts handed to them by Mwc, Stillwater, etc. when the big boys came to town, no Titan fans could be found…

Did anadarko win a 6a title? Didn’t think so.. James Flanders ran all over 6a defenses the past 3 years and led 6a in rushing. His running and stats are highly impressive, and this is coming from someone who watched him for 4 years. How many times did u ever watch him? I’m betting never…if he played 2a you wouldnt be able to unpeel your lips from his behind. But I guess over 2500 yards in 12 games isn’t impressive. You’re right. I’m assuming you ran for more??? If you think the best little league team can take on 6a’s best, please… Be my guest. I’ll even pay your admission to our stadium… There’s some great small college teams around the country, but I wouldn’t put them against LSU. But since they win a championship in their division, it’s comparable. Right?

Any team in 6a would annihilate the best team in 2A. Maybe not some inner city schools, like US grant, etc. it seems like u just can’t give credit where it’s due. That or you got your butt beat by the bombers or Norman schools and look to trash them every chance you get.

It looks like there was a ton of great backs this year. Sorry if they didn’t pick your precious lil leaguers for all the postseason honors. Alex Ross wasn’t on the list either. I guess he sucks? I’m sure bob stoops is kicking himself for the scholarship offer now huh?

There are other players besides on your team that were good. Why don’t you come back when you can give me reasons why James Flanders stats and style are are ” unimpressive”.

Glad this team is better then the Daily Oklahoman picks for all state team. F###ing Flanders and some scrub kid from Norman on their first team as running backs and Sanders and Way on second team? Its now obvious why the Daily Oklahoman’s team does not matter and wont play in a actual game. Horrible choices not just at running back but on offensive line and quarterbacks. I am hoping the people who chose this team where throwing a few back for New Years because anyone who kept up with HS Football in Oklahoma during the 2011 season would know this team is pure sh!t.

The reason a lot of the really good players did not make allstate is maybe the coaches knew they would not play in the all state game? Is Ross, Roberts or Sanders going to play in an all state game? They do not need an all state jacket. Let someone else have it.

Case in point is Casey Curtis. His team did not make the playoffs but is arguably the most talented young man in the state. Circumstances are preventing him to be the top recruit in the state yes even over Sanders Jr and Wilson at Anadarko.

Well, I will have to say that an all-state type athlete does not have to come from a winning team..if you saw the kid play and heard all of the other teams talk about him, you would know he is a class act and an outstanding quarterback. I just hate to see you slight a kid when his stats and his reputation are outstanding. If you will look at the stats on this website, you will see that he threw the ball more than any other quarterback, all class; he will have more interceptions. Rumor has it he played with a group of receivers that were all sophomores and one senior.

Like most things this process is political in nature from All-Star by Class to the All-State selection. No doubt that many deserving young men belong on this list and are not on it. But in the end I don’t know if you can make everyone happy on this deal.

That has to be the only way the kid from Elgin made it. His team was what 4-6. I mean really an all-state type athlete, especially at the QB position should garner at least 6 wins. Just like I said, this isn’t the true all state team, it is the good ol boy team. A true all-state team would have had Sanders, Roberts, Bundage & Hatcher. This is a joke.

Really? No Michael Lowe from Jones. Led his team to state title game. Had 40+ touchdowns and only 3 interceptions on the year. WOW! I don’t think the two quarterbacks are comparable to him. I guess the kid from Elgin got picked by having his daddy as a coach on the squad.

Mike, OK, though a lot more goes into it than our opinion. We also don’t limit it to just seniors or put a cap on the number of players that each team can have. We also limit it to just 25 players (11 O, 11 D, P/K/KR). Each team has its place. Ask the kids who make the team whether it means nothing to them.

I really like Bundage. I can’t remember on OL as good as he is overall since I’ve been back in Oklahoma (5-6 years). You are correct, he has been selected to play int he Offense-Defense All-American Game on Dec. 30 at Cowboys Stadium.

Ryan what is your opionion on Bundage. I have been told that he is the best o-line prospect to come out of the state in a decade. If it wasnt for his height, or lack of he would be considered one of the top 2 or 3 centers in the country. That is what Ihave read on him from these scouting services.

Kicker/Punter for the West should be Keegan Carter of OCS.
Ray Guy rating is best in state and leads kicking stats. One position that is not reflected by school classification.

Gamma, You’re definitely correct. Guessing you meant QB on Hearon. Not sure I’d say “no doubt” on him but definitely deserved to be on the list. Gallagher and Veatch are both big-time, as are plenty of other players on these teams.

Don’t knock the entire list. Some of the positions represent the best in the state, particularly the QB and TE position. No doubt Andrew Hearon was the best receiver in the state, and you have two D1 prospects in Gallagher and Veatch at TE.

I believe they need to put the best on the list no matter if they can play in the game. Have a list of reserves at each position and when the first team player can’t make the game then fill in the next guy. This gives a true All State team. It’s a shame that the best in the state aren’t here simply because they can’t play the game.

It’s a lot more than that. With the two-player limit and so many front-line recruits (which, more often than not equal front-line players) starting college in the summer or their coaches asking them not to participate, some of the best players aren’t even considered for this team.

Not all coaches submit players. Midwest City has two players on the team (Flanders’ team was originally mislabeled but has been fixed now), the max allowed per team. Carl Albert not having any was a little surprising but they didn’t have a no-brainer guy like they’ve had in the past. Had a couple that deserved hard looks though.

TEE, this is the only All-State game but there are numerous other All-Star games. Among these is the Jim Thorpe games in OKC and Tulsa, the Oil Bowl in Wichita Falls, the eight-man game in Miami and several other regional games.

Thanks for the explanation Ryan. I expect the Keon Hatcher omission had something to do with whether or not he would play in the OCA game. Had to be because how do you leave off his 100 catches, 1,610 yds and 20 TD’s.
By July of next year he should be on campus in Fayetteville getting ready for SEC football.

There’s a limit of two players for team. Heritage Hall got Sterling Shepard and Markus Wakefield on the team. Some coaches are strategic in their nominations, putting in players who have a legitimate chance to play in the game while holding back others that will play in other All-Star games or who aren’t likely to play in the OCA game. Not sure what was the case here but it’s not surprising

No. It’s not uncommon. Sheldon Wilson and Tony Kiefer handled punting duties for their teams and Carrie Farmer was Minco’s placekicker so they’ll have someone who will be able to fill those roles.
