That is why they should have been sitting in the stands as a team with their cheating coach. You won. But everyone in the state will discount it because they know you cheated. 10 years from now when asked people will say “that is the year Guthrie won by cheating.” lol

Was at the game. Thought the officials were OK missed calls on both sides. Thought the Guthrie tailback was jumping the snap a bunch, but nothing too bad. Worst problem I saw w/ the officials is they averaged about 70yo and it took them about 20 seconds to set the ball and start the play clock…that matters in the 4th qtr….but in the end, mac had chance to stop guthrie on 3rd down and they didn’t. Most disturbing thing was some taunting by guthrie fans after game and some of the statements about mac on this site. Doesn’t really matter, don’t see Guthrie slowing down L Mac. LM beat macalester last year by about 30 and each team has essentially all same players back (LM has new qb w/ better numbers)so the OSSAA ruling won’t matter…

An Official’s View… I saw that picture of the facemask and I remember that Boyd (the player being facemasked) had to go to the sideline to get his facemask reattacthed which was litterally ripped off his helmit… I do agree with you however, being a former high school basketball official I understand that you make some and you miss some and this one was obviously not seen or it more than likely would’ve been called… I do also remember that that was a drive that was deep in Guthrie territory and McAlester could not score without Boyd on the field… so the play may have had some bearing on the outcome just saying, but definately no blame put towards the ref… and Darrell on that day with that team McAlester clearly was not better, but as mentioned in this blog they were without Braxton… I think that may have evened the playing field somewhat in that game even playing into the wind

And yet again who has said anything about officiating except the Guthrie fans and “Justice?” I loved the fact that they let them play and did not make the game about them. I will be glad when Friday comes and this issue is dead.

Officiating had nothing to do with this win for Guthrie. There were a couple of holds I saw on both sides. I saw a missed facemask (There’s actually a picture on the internet of it). It’s just something that happens. High school officials do their best they can. I personally knew Carroll and his crew out there. They did the best they could. That’s all you can really ask. From speaking with both coaches, both felt the officiating was just fine. McAlester can’t allow a team to run almost 70 plays and almost 400 yards with a defense as good as Guthrie’s if they think they’re going to win ball games.

But to say the wind did NOT play a factor is either showing your homerism or you’re just very naive. A vaunted passing attack was forced to take 2/3 of their drives INTO the wind? Kiefer only threw for 140 yds (roughly?) and still almost won this ball game.

Weather is funny like that. Both punters averaged less than 15 yards a punt and Kiefer still had a 45 yarder. Welcome to Oklahoma. Weather WILL affect the outcomes of your games.

if i remember correctly, i believe Justice has already claimed 2 be from Mac. idk, dont really care. its all talk. kinda entertaining at times. doesnt matter in the grand scheme of LIFE. people are gonna think and say what they want, doesnt make anyone wrong or right. guthrie is fighting for the gold ball. for themselves, & for their community. not anyone else. and they deserve 2 be here contrary to what people like justice think. theyve earned every game won. fought some good teams. theyre gonna see their greatest adversity friday.

I love these posts. Defender, Bri, and others are arguing with “Justice” who if you go back and look at other post does not even know the names of the McAlester kids. It’s plain as day the guy is not from McAlester and is just baiting you guys along to post. And you guys keep put down the kids from McAlester. I liked the one Guthrie post “If the weather was better we would have beat them by several touchdowns.” The only person I see that has said anything about Guthrie is Justice who is probable someone from a school in your district. Or the Tommy character “FOR NOW all I will say is where’s
my check? I haven’t seen this much action on post ever.” Watch you will see Justice writing under a different name Friday. Y’all keep going most of the people I have talked to over here (that even care to read this paper) have had a good laugh at it.

I think it is funny that you guys from Guthrie are starting to hammer these kids from McAlester based on statements from a poster that is clearly NOT from or town. If he was from McAlester they would have shut the heck along time ago. Not to mention he has been posting on Guthrie blogs for over he a month. Jeez it’s not the end of the world for us. These kids are moving to basketball, baseball, and on to college. The Oklahoman has not written about McAlester all year and now we have four blogs in two days. Way to stir the pot. We are not making excuses and we DO NOT NEED TO. The only person I see making excuses is this Justice person. No other person has posted an excuse about wind, refs, or anything except this person and the writers of this blog. You won we lost now everyone get a life.

I’m glad to know that there are people outside of McAlester that recognizes the talent of Alverey Braxton. He’s given his all to this team and hasn’t always received the recognition that he deserves. Too bad that it took his absence from this play-off game to be missed on the football field. This team has lots of talented players but I’m not sure if anyone can say that the outcome would have been the same without Alverey.

As I have said before… Take Davis or Callins or Chappell off Guthrie and see what the outcome is… It’s that simple McAlester is a pass first team that can run pretty well… I believe Kiefer was 3rd in the class coming in either right in front of or right behind Davis is rushing yards… You take a RB back from Guthrie is just like taking a WR from Mac same principle… So please don’t sit here and be naive and say it had no bearing on the game… Truth be told McAlester had enough talent to win without Braxton and just didn’t execute… With Braxton they would’ve been at least 7 points better on O at the very least

I see the error of my way, the refs did nothing wrong called the game perfectly (as a human can) and the wind dying for them and the bounces was just my onesided parental nervous view and/or I was just makeing excuses kinda like……….”McAlester was without one of its top playmakers in Saturday’s semifinal loss to No. 1 Guthrie.

Senior receiver Alvery Braxton, who had 1,049 yards receiving and 13 TD catches on the season, tore his meniscus earlier this week in what coach Bryan Pratt called a “freak,” non-football injury.

“That hurt us a little bit,” Pratt said. AND “The weather hurt us probably more than it did them,” Pratt said. “If we were playing in normal conditions without the wind, things might have gone differently.”………okay…gotcha. I recant and say great job to both teams and both coaches.

The OSSAA. The wind. Player not playing. The Refs. Lot’s of discussion here. It’s a game of inches. When two teams are evenly matched. One play here, one turnover there, field conditions. These things can make or break a team. Very good close game though, the way it should be. This game could of went either way. ANYWAYS, I am a Macarthur alum and fan and I hope we can pull it out this Friday against a good Guthrie team to bring in the first ever state title in football. But just like this last game it could come down to one big play or turnover. It’s happened to Mac twice in championships but for the bad. GO MAC!!

Be proud… but the rule is the rule… it is in black and white… and I assume the OSSAA had grounds for it… I am not calling Guthrie dirty I am saying that this same exact rule in the rule book was quoted in the other decisions with different punishments… there was not thought of even giving them a chance to disqualify their coach… I am sorry but I just cannot agree with that decision… and I am speaking my opinion but the opinion of many other who on here, on other articles, on coachesaid, and numerous other media outlets who have agreed with me and do not think the decision is right… the rule is the rule… the OSSAA said ok you obviously did something in violation of the rules.. but lets just kinda come with every punishment short of disqualification as there have been in the past… and to be honest if the superintendent of the school system that got the gift was sitting on the board it may be even less of a big deal… but I don’t like the good ole boy system and I think that it was in full effect here

justice eat your own words. i hope that 1 day Mac doesnt have a perfect season, and the OSSAA says, “well, someone wrote an anonymous letter, u guys are out!” without hearing your case first, or doing a thorough investigation. guthrie appealed knowing they didnt committ any malicious wrongdoings. the OSSAA considered OUR case as just that, an honest mistake bc we do have a clear record. it was completely diff from jenks, btw, or any other school. way too many students were involved, it was obvious what they were doing and wins could not be givin bc of that. so until your perfect season is on the line, simply bc your coach made a clerical error, keep judging. the other 50 bluejay players had nothing 2 do with this, and deserved to be in the playoffs. is it fair that they are punished for somethin they didnt do? whatever happened 2 be humane, showing mercy or forgivness(in general)?! stop speaking for everyone else. guthries coach received numerous letters from our surrounding opponents letting him know they support us, and know we didnt cheat, and want 2 see us in the playoffs. coach rose(carl albert)“My first reaction is that Rafe Watkins and Boxley are great friends of mine,” Rose said. “I trust them explicitly. I am not saying they will I am saying IF they do… And again its nothing against Guthrie personally it’s just the decision… If Lawton Mac wins nothing goes up otherwise I think there is one just because of that decision… And Charles you seem to not care what I have to say probably because you are a Guthrie fan… But in the next few years when another title contender ends up in the same situation and they get a gift of a decision and they end up playing an beating y’all out and you have to see the emotion of your teams seniors knowing that single decision meant playing for a state title or not you will realize deep down in your heart that this decision was not ok… But until you are on the outside looking in you will argue your point

No it will never end there will always be an astrik by the state title this year in everyone that was around to see it outside of Guthrie if Guthrie wins it… period… each case is looked at individually but NO other team was given the chance to let the coach or the kids sit out they just had to forfeit for the same thing… they did not have a member of their administrative staff on the board to have any influence upon the board… this will not rest for a long time… it will come back up the next time, and every time that a team is disqualified for moving someone in… what is going to stop a team from promoting a position coach to head coach and move players in and then have that coach offer himself up as a sacrifice… the OSSAA made a huge mistake

the wind didnt have to be a factor in half the passes thrown bc they were batted down at the line of scrimmage lol. the plays that did get thrown, were close catches, but had great defense or were caught actually. the officiating was ridiculous. not saying guthrie didnt deserve them, but call it both ways.(many times)== mcalester horse collared, held, facemasked, and had an unsportsmanlike incident that didnt get called. both teams played against and with the wind the same amount of time. infact, the wind stopped blowing long enough for mcalester to have the best punt of the game(changing field postition). it is what it is. both teams have been aware of games upcoming weather. shoulda figured somethin else out. very hard 2 be 1 dimensional and win championships. and enough with the ossaa ruling junk already, each case is investigated individually. after hearing the facts, they made the right decision! GO JAYS!

Diffence is btw was still moving people in that year. Jones had players living there without their parents. Get over it justice Guthrie is in and all your crying isn’t going to change it. Btw only beat Carl Albert that year by 3 and wouldn’t have done it twice. They were by far the best team in 5a.

I’ve talked to a handful of people who were at the game and you’re the only one who I’ve heard bring up the officiating.

I didn’t “play the whining card,” I just reacted to what you wrote. And as Jason said, I didn’t write this and even if I had, Jason wrote this as an addition to his game story which we had in the paper. To say missing Alvery Braxton didn’t hurt McAlester’s offense is ridiculous. But pointing that out doesn’t take anything away from Guthrie’s performance. They won. They deserved it. Teams have to deal with circumstances like these all the time. But that doesn’t mean we don’t address it and it doesn’t make it a “whine-fest” when it is written about.

Tommy, stick around. Comment on our posts, especially the ones about Guthrie. I enjoy the back and forth with readers and I think if you look back over the posts, I think I handle criticism pretty well but I’ll also point out when I think a point is mistaken.

So in that spirit, and given the fact I wasn’t at the game, I ask: Which calls were made against Guthrie that you think were incorrect? Which calls weren’t made against McAlester that you think should’ve been flagged?

As a neutral HS football fan, who lives 1 hour from Guthrie and 2 hours from McAlester, and who drove 2 hours to see this game, I have some observations.
First, I think the OSSAA set a bad precedent in reversing its decision. Second, It is unfortunate that Buffs lost a key offensive player. Third, In my opinion, Buffs one dimensional offense, not being able to consistently run the ball in that weather, is the main reason they lost the game. Another player to throw to probably doesnt change that. Fourth, Buff coach’s decision to go for two right off the bat, put them behind the eight ball when they didnt convert, and forced his hand the rest of the game on extra points, (muffed snaps and bad snaps dont happen to championship teams). Fifth, QB throwback was a brilliant call, executed brilliantly and doesnt look to me like #75 came within 5 yards of tipping it, much less “inches”, didnt look like it at the time, doesnt look like it on the replay, the ball was pretty high when it passed over him. Sixth, Whining about who got the calls, breaks and the weather, does a disservice the the kids on both teams, who showed the hearts of champions on Saturday, in victory and in defeat.

The reason I am so bitter is because I think they got a gift of a judgement in the OSSAA ruling and I do not think that it is ok… It doesn’t matter that it is Guthrie it could’ve been anyone in the state and I would say the same thing I just see a forum here to make my point… The OSSAA basically said we are going to make one team feel good about breaking a rule and let them hurt at least 4 others along the way… I have nothing personal against Guthrie or any of their players… I just simply do not agree with the ruling and I like many others think that justice should’ve been served and it was not… I was to make it as public and as big of a deal as possible because I don’t think it is fair for anyone else to have to forfeit any games for an inelligble player again because that is the precedent that was set here

Buff Dad: Braxton not being there and the three missed extra points were important parts of the story of the game, and, because of space constraints, I can’t write about everything in the paper. So sometimes I use the blog to talk about other parts of the game that weren’t in my game story. That’s the reason they were written, because I think they are still relevant. Not trying to do anything other than tell the whole story of the game from both sides. McAlester had a fantastic season and they had lots of great players.

Not sure what the problem is? Not really sure why this blog or the missed extra point blog was even written. We had a great season. I would not have wanted to play anyone but the #1 team in the state. Our team had a bad game and lost. Now we move on to other things. It’s High School football, you can throw a flag on every snap if you want to. This buff is not making excesses nor do we need any. I have to admit the wind blew at least 30mph harder when McAlester had the ball and was probably 15 degrees colder when McAlester had the ball. Here is the facts Guthrie 373 yards offense and McAlester 208 yards, Guthrie one turnover and McAlester 0. McAlester had 96 yards of offense on 3 plays, 2 jump balls in the middle of the field for 54 yards and an 8 yard pass that turned into a 43 yard TD. Honestly if the two teams played on a day when the weather was better Guthrie would win by a couple of TD’s.

And the play the won the game the throwback literally was less than an inch from not happening… Mac had a lineman that may have skimmed the ball with his finger he was so close… Not to mention that #44 threw what appeared to be two punches on a play out of bounds behind Dutton on the play that should have negated the play… want proof go check it out on the video posted on here its the second to last play I believe

I cannot belive that you people are still complaining about the game from Guthrie… I mean you guys should be counting you blessings that you were even given the gift to play… the people in Guthrie are the only ones that are okay with it… I saw a team in Guthrie that was a great team but had holes… One of which would’ve been exploited by Braxton in that game… The fact of the matter is this Guthrie caught almost every break… The got a gift to be in the playoffs… Every bounce seemed to go their way in the game… Braxton got hurt two days before the game… The weather hurt McAlester’s pass heavy offense way more than Guthrie’s run heavy offense… If any of those things goes McAlester’s way we would’ve seen justice and Guthrie would’ve been out this past week… PERIOD

Defenders Dad: Clearly, Guthrie was the better team. Nobody is questioning that. All I’ve written here is that Alvery Braxton, one of McAlester’s top playmakers, didn’t play, which is true. Also, the weather clearly played a factor in the game. I don’t know how anyone could honestly question that either. But, Guthrie handled the weather better than McAlester did.

As far as officiating goes, I truly, truly don’t understand what you guys are talking about. I was there, and I didn’t think the officiating was that bad. Guthrie was called for more penalties, but that doesn’t mean the officials were unfair. Guthrie just committed more penalties. But guess what? They still won the game! I guess some people just need things to complain about.
