Comments on: Guthrie stays No. 1 in Class 5A

OSSAA has set a horrible precedent. That a rule, and the consequences for breaking it, can be changed in the middle of the year. This has the smell of crony-ism and politics. While I am happy that the Guthrie kids, who had nothing to do with this, will get to continue to play, I fear that the OSSAA has opened up themselves to many more last minute hearings and playoff delaying court actions in the future. Now their rules seem negotiable, and people will try to negotiate. Can’t imagine any school administrators outside of Guthrie who are happy with this ruling.

Thank Ryan for giving them ARDMORE TIGER a little credit this week for beating Carl Albert. These ARDMORE fan didn’t think it was an upset’ it something that should have happen the first time.If yall city folks been following us around them TIGERS should be 10-1 right now!! I don’t know what kind of team Pryor is , but they better get ready, cause our boys are getting ready to bring it to them. I cann’t wait to see ya pick for this week, but you know the point is moot!!! GO TIGERS KEEP ROLLING !!

I guess them ARDMORE TIGERS mess up some peoples brackets friday night. Thank for putting the picture of the play that the ref. mess up on. So the score should have been worser then that. Let go TIGERS keep rolling!!! Carl Albert didn’t want to play them Tiger again, We should have won the first time, but we beat them when it counted the most.Roll them basketball out see ya later!!!!

Guthrie season will end in round 2. East Central will end their season at home with everyone in the state their. As for the ruling: are they serious? E.G. Can we bring back players from championship teams in the past, play them 10 games, rule them inelgible, suspend the coach, forfeit the money made during the playoffs, and get our wins and the number 1 seed? This is an extreme example but an “inelgible player is an inelgible player…”

The OSSAA has lost all credibility. The leader of this mess needs to resign because they can not follow their own rules. The rules are clear, something needs to happen!

So the coach falls on the sword for his team.

Obviously with the suspension of both the player and the “Coach” the rules were broken and an ineligible player was used. Why is OSAAA changing and bending the rules now? Way to be a good role model and nice example you set for your team “Coach”. Hope Guthrie loses to a team of young men who have been coached by men of integrity and character and who have abided by the rules. OSAAA is a joke and so is this ruling allowing Guthrie to play.

Is Guthrie going to pay Watkins for the 8 games he is suspended next year?

Guthrie will be in the playoffs, so its OK to go get an ineligible player and win the district and get two home games.

I think ARDMORE deserve a little more credit than what people are giving us. Don’t be surpise if upset some team in the playoff!!! GO TIGER !!!!

Ryan, I don’t have a dog in this hunt, but it doesn’t pass the smell test for me to separate the ruling from the ranking. That’s akin to rating a team that lost out for fourth place in their district and didn’t go to the playoffs because of an injured superstar. Once he came back they were the best team on the field. Doesn’t really matter because they can’t prove it where it matters most; the playoffs. Just my two cents! Keep up the great reporting!

Yes, that’s what I’m saying. It’s not making a mockery of anything. My stance could change and I don’t see Guthrie staying No. 1 at the end of everything, but the rankings are about the best teams in each class and Guthrie, right now, is the best team in 5A. The OSSAA’s ruling is a separate deal.

I had a similar, though softer stance on Tulsa Washington based on the team they were. I don’t think Guthrie willfully cheated and even without the player in question, they would’ve been 10-0. That doesn’t mean I don’t think Guthrie did anything wrong.

Ryan, are you saying that if Guthrie doesn’t even play in the playoffs that you will still rank them? That would seem to make a mockery of organized sports. If their member organization says they have violated the rules, then they don’t deserve to be ranked. What was your stance on BTWashington two years ago? Did you still rank them high even though they were using ineligible players? Yes, they were the best team in 5A ‘on the field’, but it’s about more than performance. It’s about doing things according to the rules.
