Joe Foster deserves Player of the Week. Joe and the Pauls Valley Panthers have come a long way and have improved tremendously. The Panthers played an amazing game against Purcell and proved just how great they truly are. They will continue to fight until the season is over and they WILL shock the world!

Earlier this year we sent out several different recruiting letters to many high school football players in Oklahoma. Two of those letters went to Pauls Valley boys, one being Joe Foster. I had the chance to meet this young man, and after being around him I definitely say he deserves player of the week. He is not only a extremely talented football player, but also a inspirational guy overall. He is a role model and leader for his team, and to me those are the qualities people should look for in a player of the week.

Collin Bricker is the only person that stands out. 57 yard run, 4 Touchdown passes, Over 200 yards passing, and causing a late fumble. He is the only playmaker from both sides of the field. He can step up when needed and make a big play.

I agree with clint too. Not only a great individual effort by Foster but a great team effort by the Panthers. I also think you guys should know, Foster led the Panthers to there first win against Purcell in a decade. AT PURCELL!! The #7 ranked team in 3a and the Panthers werent even in the Top 25. Thats a Player of the Week in my book.

Walter, we’ve certainly taken notice of Jimmy Wood at Noble. In fact we had a blog about him right here: http://blog.newsok.com/highschoolsports/2011/10/15/jimmy-wood-has-big-game-in-noble-win/

He had a great week, but there were several players who had great performances in Week 7 and did not make it on the poll. Not being one of these five players is no disrespect to any of them.

When I broke down the players using the criteria I discussed in another post here in the comments, in my mind, Wood didn’t quite match up with what these five kids did.

Joe and the rest of the Panthers did amazing when the pulled a huge upset on Purcell. It was a great game, believe me.

These were all great performances, but I have to give the player of the week to Joe Foster. He stepped up big and threw for 317 yards along with four touchdowns. He also beat a previously unbeaten team. You got to love a good underdog story.

Mary, I choose the five players for the poll based on a few different factors. First of all, being selected for the poll is about more than sheer numbers.

Good numbers are necessary, but I also heavily weigh clutch performances. And I give added value to players with impressive performances in big games or significant upsets. Because of these two factors, you might see a player with a lesser statistical performance make the list ahead of someone who had much better numbers. For instance, Landon Nault of Kingfisher only scored two touchdowns, but he did it in a 16-14 upset of No. 4 Bethany, which was one of the most highly anticipated games of the week, and it lived up to the billing.

Another criteria I take into account is someone accomplishing something unique or special — or leading their team to such an accomplishment. So there are a variety of ways for a player to earn his way onto the list. Hope that helps.
