Just some additional info on the Timberlake-Sharon Mutual game. Don’t let the final score fool you, Timberlake was up 56-16 in third quarter when Timberlake pulled the starters on both sides of the ball. This was just after a Sharon Mutual turnover deep in their territory. Had the starters remained in it would have undoubtedly ended by the 45 rule.

Yes there’s way tougher districts than B-3. That’s Eastern Oklahoma. Western Oklahoma football is way tougher in 8-man than Eastern. Take for instance last year playoffs, Seiling who ended up 4th in there district and barely made it into the playoffs almost beat Davenport who was 1st in their district and how many years in a row has a team from the west won the state championship? I mean get real West is better than the East hands down.

Ryan, When I read the first line after the 6A rankings I am a bit confused why BA and Jenks shouldn’t be switched. You say you left BA at #4 because they were the only team to challenge Union. Since Jenks did not challenge Union and actually struggled some against Bixby, why are they still at #2? Surely not because of past rankings, right?

Is there any tougher district than B-3? Caddo #1, Dewar #5, Gans #6, Wetumka #9. Cave Springs hasn’t got a victory yet, but of their 5 games, 3 of them have been against top 10 teams with another against Allen which was in the top 10 at the time. Gans is the only top 10 school left on the Hornet schedule, so maybe Cave will get a victory or two.

Just an oversight on not commenting on Lawton MacArthur. I moved them up three spots because of how dominant they’ve been so far. They’ve scored 40-plus point on three opponents this season and the only two they haven’t were 6A schools (Lawton and Lawton Eisenhower). They also blew out an Ardmore team that played both Carl Albert and McAlester close. I generally like to throw out the rankings and start from scratch a couple times per season so I don’t get locked in and keep teams down for no reason other than that they’re better than I initially thought.

I have no bias against Southwestern Oklahoma. Heck, I went there Friday night to watch Lawton and Edmond Santa Fe play. I’ve spent plenty of time there and always enjoy it.

Ryan, I applaud you for making the changes in 5A. It looks like you finally gave Lawton Mac the respect they deserve (I think.) I did notice in your comments about evry team in the top 10 whey they were changed but not a thing about Mac. Is it that hard to give credit where it due. I have noticed over the years you have hard slants against any Southwest OK teams. I thought the Daily Oklahoman was a State paper not just OKC area or East of I35? Anyway thanks for the semi unbiased rankings.

I can tell you Welch in class B is for real.Thats fine they are not getting any attention in ranking systems. Yes their schedule so far has not been the toughest but I can guarantee you Kiefer and Depew better be ready when they play Welch.

That’s a fair thought as well. I think if Wynnewood keeps turning in defensive performances like that, they’ve got a chance to leapfrog Thomas in the next few weeks. I’ll definitely be watching those results closely.

I can understand that. But I think that result shows more how good Wynnewood is than if Elmore City is undeserving of a top 10 spot. There’s an argument for Foyil 9th and Rush Springs No. 10. But you look at their lone common opponent to this point, Stratford, and that’s where the difference comes in. Rush won that game 33-7 at home while Elmore City won 54-7 on the road. Those spots will shake out some more this week when Wynnewood plays Rush Springs and Wayne plays Elmore City.

i think wynnewood should have moved up a spot they held elmore to negative rushing yards and a combine total of 70 yards of offense.

Like I said in the post, I have Rush Springs just outside the top 10. They’ve got Wynnewood this week so a win there, or even a good showing, could boost Rush into the rankings.

As for Perkins, what they’ve done the last two weeks especially has been impressive. They’re definitely a team to keep an eye on. Thanks for the story idea.

There are two brothers on the Perkins-Tryon team who are performing well. Shane and Tyler Taff. Shane scored 4 TD’s last night against Little Axe. His brother Tyler has scored several TD’s this year. Shane is a senior and Tyler is a sophomore. They live with foster parent Troy Cundiff whose wife died this past summer. Both of their parents were in prison for drugs. The dad is still in prison, but the mom is out now. Might be a good story. Contact Coach Loyd Wertman at Perkins for more information.
