EDITOR’S NOTE: This poll will not determine who will be picked as The Oklahoman’s player of the year. This is just something fun to get people talking about who they think is the best player in the state.

We’ve never picked players based on a popularity contest and we’re not going to start now. We send ballots to every high school coach in the state and let them nominate their best players for all-state. We also ask them to nominate the best players they have seen from other schools.

Our process takes several things into consideration….ballots from the coaches, player stats, and the opinions of our reporters, who watched these kids play several times.

We love to read your comments about the character of these kids. We know they are talented basketball players, but it’s good to hear they are active in their community and good students as well.

I have watched Liz for 3 years and she has been a class act on and off the court. Liz can play virtually any position on the court. She has been a great example of Oklahoma basketball talent. I look forward to seeing her play in college as well as the other players in this poll. I have watched most of the players in this poll and all are deserving of honors. I like Liz for player of the year because of her versatility and strength.

Sharane Campbell has lead her team to State. She put them on her back and carried them! They weren’t even supposed to make it to state. She deserves to be Player of The Year.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR … is just that… The best player for that year…not the last four years, not the last two years. Courtney, regardless of the final outcome, you have continually demonstrated that YOU ARE the “PLAYER OF THE YEAR”… You are a team player, a hard worker, and never quit. I have attended all of the Wolves games, except one this year, including the only loss to Edmond North. The way the Wolves performed — as a team — throughout the year, and the impact you made in the State Championships (win over Edmond North, win over Midwest City)confirms that!!! GO WOLVES – 6A Girls State Champions!!!

GO Biggie!!! Sharane Campbell isn’t just a basketball player she is also a great friend and scholar. She works very hard on and off the court and is a very talented person. Nikki, Way to throw the race card out there. It sounds like you know first hand. What team do you play for? I didn’t think so….. Obviously you know nothing about any of these players and have probably never stepped on a court in your life. All five of these girls are extremely gifted athletes and great competitors and don’t need turmoil to ruin this moment for them. Quit trying to stir up racial tensions…. no one likes it or needs it. Go back to whatever rock you crawled out from; you obviously don’t have a clue what you are talking about.

That’s all very nice to hear about Elizabeth. Makes me wonder why she calls African Americans the N word on the court. But I don’t doubt other players on this poll & not on this poll do community work and ARE NOT racist!

Liz is a beast! Not only does she dominate in games, but she sets an example at practice also. She picks people up and encourages everybody all the time. She has been a leader for ENHS since she was a freshman, and will always be remembered at North for helping bring girls basketball back! She is the best choice in my eyes because she truly loves the game and never settles. I have no doubt she will only continue to develop as a player and be a great addition to the Cowgirls!

I’ve had the pleasure to see Elizabeth Donohoe for the past four years. She has expanded her game and been consistent in carrying her team to the final four the past two seasons. She has been Conference Player of the Year for 3 years and Newcomer of the Year her Freshman Year. I was amazed at her ability to transition to the guard spot and can play whereever the it best helps her team. Her ability to score or give up the ball when double and tripled teamed showed her knowledge of the game.Not only did she get it done on the court, she excelled in the classroom and in her communicity activities as well. She spent hours with her teammates helping flood victims in Edmond clean up after the flood, collected beans and rice for the food pantry, raked leaves for the elderly–he was a perfect fit for a team and a coach that made being a winner more than just the final score. We’re happy she’s been loyal to Oklahoma and can’t wait to see her at OSU in the fall.

I have watched 4 of these young ladies play for the last 3 or 4 seasons depending on their grad year. They are all great players and all four should make the college transition very well. Giving an impartial opinion, I would have to say that Elizabeth is the most complete player at this point. She gives 100% every minute on floor and plays on both ends of the court all the time. Elizabeth is very versitile and can and did play all 5 positions for Edm No. She has amazing body control and is very accurate from behind the arc. I believe she will play early and often in college and won’t be surprised if she starts all four years at OSU and is an all-american before she is through.

This is a talented group of young ladies that all deserve and have gotten accolades through their careers. But a post can not score, and a forward can not drive, if they do not get the ball. Guards do not get assists with out passing the ball off to another player. These young ladies have been fortunate to play with talented team mates that grasp the concept of team. Congrats to all the team mates of these players as well as these young ladies listed.

Hi Tom and Paul! Yes, I completely agree. The Oklahoman has been so supportive of girls’ basketball in Oklahoma! Though we may spend a lot of time in Texas, since she plays summer ball in Texas, I can say I definitely brag about the support this website gives girls basketball here in Oklahoma. The state of Oklahoma just doesn’t get enough recognition for all the talent that is here, I don’t think. Thank you Daily Oklahoman for including Courtney on this poll. But she won’t to vote on it because she would rather it say her team instead of her name. She makes me proud. Congratulations to Edmond Santa Fe Girls Basketball on your 1st Championship! Coach Bass and his coaching staff did a great job and it was well deserved.

It’s been a fun year and congratulations and good luck to all those graduating. We will be following you and supporting you in your future endeavors.

Is there a reason you neglected to mention that Courtney Walker led her team to the GOLD BALL – 6A Girls State Championship this year? Just Curious… Other nominees “carried” their teams to State, and possibly could have led their team if they played – but Courtney and her team WON… I think it should have at least been mentioned….
