Sabercats give new girls hoops coach talent to work with
Former Bethany girls basketball coach Derek Dorris has been hired to coach the Southmoore girls. The Southmoore job came open when Mark Harmon left to coach Hennessey. Harmon commuted from Kingfisher for two years while coaching the SaberCats and started the program.
The ’Cats were 7-19 last season, but had the biggest first-round upset in Class 6A with a 54-50 win over No. 6 Lawton.
Dorris, who coached standout Logan Martin at Bethany, will have talent to work with as four starters return and 12 players from last year’s varsity squad. Reagan Widener, Kayla Tucker and Kaylan Haywood all were honorable mention choices on the All-Mid-State Conference team.
