Washington: A Warrior (Brad Beller) comes home…

You expect a lot of movin’ and-a shakin’ in football jobs from January until April. Everybody is looking to finalize things before spring ball.

But what about the middle of June?

That’s exactly what has happened at Washington as former Lexington coach Brad Beller has taken the Warriors job earlier this week.

Oddly enough, Beller was at our offices a few weeks ago with his Lexington boys. This came out of nowhere for everybody involved.

Beller, a graduate of Washington, said this was the only spot he would have left Lexington for under these circumstances.

Former Washington coach Dennis McCray resigned last week and Beller came in for the interview, and it was finalized pretty shortly after that.

This has been crazy (trying to catch up). I’ve been getting up at 6 a.m. and working until midnight. I’m very excited about everything.” – Beller

Beller had really established himself at Lexington the last few years. I remember doing a story on Beller back in 2007 (within the first couple months of being here) about how young he is. And it remains true. He graduated from Washington in 2001, I graduated from high school in Ohio in 2002.

Beller said despite being a Washington boy, the big thing was his family. He has a couple of kids now and most of his family is in the Washington area.

McCray said the passion just wasn’t there anymore. It started in spring practice, and he wanted to make sure he wasn’t making a knee-jerk reaction to everything. He’s excited the direction the program is going in and is pumped to watch his son play for Beller.

What is this, coaches day on the blog? Scott had the update on PC West basketball. There’s more to come as I’ll be back with some info on what is happening at Santa Fe South.
