Casady: Uphill battle for Cyclones…

As I type this, the Casady basketball teams are on their way to Houston for the Southwest Prep Conference tournament this weekend.
It’s going to be a tough weekend for the Cyclones of Jen Warden and Josh Bottomly as the girls are last in the North Zone of the SPC and the boys are second-to-last.
But there are reasons to be optimistic as the boys team has been good enough to beat Heritage Hall and Capitol Hill this season. And like most teams, the Cyclones’ confidence is pretty high when making shots.
There is no question the boys team is more suited for the football field, and Bottomly openly admits that. However, he’s also been extremely quick to point out how hard this group works.
The drive carried over from the football field, even if the success didn’t. Ryan Shelley has been the ringleader while Bentley Williams plays WAY bigger and tougher than his size would indicate. Alex Dudley has become a clutch performer while Preston Sullivan will be someone to watch for next season.
Before we start looking ahead, there is this season to close out.
For the girls, Shelby Cornelson and Sarah Roush have led the team, but I’ve also been impressed with the play of Molly Brown. Either way, this weekend should be a great experience for the Casady clubs.
