Putnam City North junior JohVonna Mitchell was granted a hardship waiver after an appeal to the board of directors.
Mitchell played for Millwood last year, helping the Falcons to the Class 3A championship as a sophomore before transferring to Putnam North.
When the board made their vote, 7-5, to approve Mitchell’s appeal, Mitchell dropped her head in relief.
“It means a lot just to play varsity,” Mitchell said. “I’m glad that day’s finally come.”
Mitchell could make a big difference for the Class 6A No. 15 Panthers.
Mitchell will get her first chance Friday when the Panthers play at rival Putnam City.
“I’ve been practicing everyday and can’t wait,” Mitchell said. “That’s my family and it’s going to be great getting a chance to play with them.”
