Playoff Picks: Week 3

Just under the wire before kickoffs, here’s the way Scott, Bob and myself see this weekend’s playoff action shaping up:

Overall records:
Ryan:
94-26
Scott: 92-28
Bob: 91-29

CLASS 6A
Bob
The picks: Jenks over Southmoore; Tulsa Union over Broken Arrow
The take: Feeling pretty good about this. I’m a firm believer in the ‘playoff test.’ Southmoore had its test vs. Lawton Eisenhower. Well, Jenks had its battle with Edmond Memorial. The Trojans are going to be ready and Zack Langer is extremely impressive.

Ryan
The picks: Jenks over Southmoore; Tulsa Union over Broken Arrow
The take: I’ll never pick against Jenks or Union in the playoffs again until someone else wins a title.

Scott
The picks: Jenks over Southmoore, Tulsa Union over Broken Arrow
The take: Southmoore could be the team to break the Jenks-Union stranglehold on 6A, but I’ll have to see it to believe it.

CLASS 5A
Bob
The picks: Carl Albert over El Reno; Guthrie over Bixby
The take: Oh boy, talk about two teams that have killed me all season in Guthrie and Bixby. I haven’t had a read on ’em all year. Think Kentrell Brothers makes the difference.

Ryan
The picks: Guthrie over Bixby; Carl Albert over El Reno
The take: Still feeling good about Carl Albert for champions pick, although anything can happen tonight. Guthrie-Bixby are two teams that have continuously confounded me throughout the season.

Scott
The picks: Guthrie over Bixby; El Reno over Carl Albert.
The take: Picking against CA scares me a bit after their playoff showing so far, but I think El Reno still has the defense to win the title. I’ve picked against Guthrie twice and been wrong. Bluejay fans should be terrified to see me pick them to win this week.

CLASS 4A
Bob
The picks: Star Spencer over Sallisaw; Weatherford over Douglass
The take: Super pumped (not just pumped) about seeing the Eagles and Trojans. If Week 8 was any indication, better get strapped in for another barn-burner.

Ryan
The picks: Star Spencer over Sallisaw; Douglass over Weatherford
The take: I think Douglass’ turnover problem is in its past and that makes the difference. Feeling much less confident in Star Spencer-Sallisaw. The Black Diamonds have their defense back to 100 percent and Matt Oberste is one of the best QBs around. But the Bobcats’ line is huge and they have two of the best running backs anywhere.

Scott
The picks: Star Spencer over Sallisaw; Weatherford over Douglass.
The take: I’m not going to lie. I don’t feel real confident in either of these picks. And if I made the opposite picks, I’d say the same thing… 4A is anybody’s trophy to win.

CLASS 3A
Bob
The picks: Cascia Hall over Sequoyah Claremore; Berryhill over Dewey
The take: How excited are you about the Clinton/Blanchard game? Wait, you say that’s not happening. Crazy that it’s all four teams from 3A-3.

Ryan
The picks: Berryhill over Dewey; Cascia Hall over Seq. Claremore
The take: Just like the regular season. But Seq. Claremore is scary come playoff time. Jody Iams does a heck of a job there with the Wing T.

Scott
The picks: Berryhill over Dewey; Seq. Claremore over Cascia Hall
The take: SC might have shown itself as the best team no one knew about with last week’s domination of Tuttle. They could have a gold ball in their future.

CLASS 2A
Bob
The picks: Heritage Hall over Pawhuska; Lincoln Christian over Davis; Millwood over Verdigris; Kingfisher over Sperry.
The take: Yea, changing my pick. I had Davis winning the title, but LC has been almost beyond dominant at this point. Ridiculously good.

Ryan
The picks: Heritage Hall over Pawhuska; Lincoln Christian over Davis; Millwood over Verdigris; Kingfisher over Sperry.
The take: Some great games going on here and really would like to see the Lincoln Christian-Davis game but sticking with my guns across the board.

Scott
The picks: Pawhuska over Heritage Hall; Lincoln Christian over Davis; Millwood over Verdigris; Kingfisher over Sperry.
The take: I’m sticking with my pick of LC to win it all. Sperry has been impressive to get here, but I’m not ready to jump on the bandwagon. Why Pawhuska over HH? Maybe you missed the blog entitled “The Boneman Curse.”

CLASS A
Bob
The picks: Hennessey over Talihina; Tonkawa over Watonga; Cashion over Stroud; Oklahoma Bible over Salina.
The take: Scott’s a lucky one for seeing that Hennessey and Talihina game. And after doubting OBA most of this season, I have learned, my friends.

Ryan
The picks: Hennessey over Talihina; Tonkawa over Watonga; Cashion over Stroud; Oklahoma Bible over Salina.
The take: I knew about OBA already, Bob. Welcome to the bandwagon. Tonkawa-Watonga worries me a bit, as does Cashion-Stroud.

Scott
The picks: Cashion over Stroud; OBA over Salina; Hennessey over Talihina; Tonkawa over Watonga.
The take: Cashion keeps finding ways to win, and I think they’ll surprise people with another one this week. OBA’s run game will get it done against Salina. Hennessey is still the favorite for the title in my book. Watonga is good, I just don’t know if they’re good enough to hand Tonkawa its first loss.

CLASS B
Bob
The picks: Garber over Laverne; Canton over Ryan
The take: District B-1 has been the cream of the crop in this class, and it continues on with an all B-1 final.

Ryan
The picks: Garber over Laverne; Canton over Ryan
The take: No surprise here, another all-B-1 championship game.

Scott
The picks: Garber over Laverne; Canton over Ryan
The take: Garber and Canton have been the two best teams all year. No reason to doubt them now.

CLASS C
Scott

The picks: Timberlake over DC-Lamont; Forgan over Seiling.
The take: I picked Shattuck again this week because… wait, Shattuck lost? That can’t be right. Are we sure about this?

Ryan
The picks: Timberlake over DC-Lamont; Seiling over Forgan
The take: Timberlake seizes control of Class C with this win.

Bob
The picks: Timberlake over DC-Lamont; Seiling over Forgan
The take: DC-Lamont won’t have an emotional hangover, Timberlake is just good. Big run by Forgan comes to a close.
