Game blog: McAlester at El Reno
10:12 p.m.: El Reno stopped McAlester quarterback Tony Kiefer at the 1-yard line on fourth-and-goal with :44 left. Two personal-foul penalties on the Buffs moved the ball out of the danger zone and El Reno was able to run out the clock on a 21-14 win.
El Reno advances to the 5A semifinals
9:40 p.m.: As it did after McAlester’s first TD of the game, El Reno answers quickly. After converting a crucial fourth-and-two near midfield, Jakeil Everheart hits Matt Pruitt on a nine-yard TD pass.
9:37 p.m.: McAlester finally converts, with a five-yard run by Tony Kiefer for a game-tying TD early in the fourth quarter.
9:24 p.m.: McAlester has seven first downs to one for El Reno in the second half, but two El Reno interceptions have kept the Indians up 14-7 as we prepare to begin the fourth quarter.
8:32 p.m.: McAlester misses a field goal from 29 yards in the final minute of the half and El Reno runs out the clock to take a 14-7 lead into the locker room. McAlester is moving the ball well until it gets inside the 30. The Buffaloes have been inside the ER 30 four times and they have one TD, a turnover on downs, an interception and a missed field goal.
8:23 p.m.: Cory Dauphin comes up with an interception in the end zone to turn away the Buffs on fourth-and1 from the 5. McAlester is 0-for-3 on fourth down tonight.
8:11 p.m.: A turnover on downs by McAlester gives El Reno the ball and Jakeil Everheart takes advantage with a 63-yard run to set up Cory Dauphin’s 1-yard TD run.
8:02 p.m.: Speedy play here at El Reno, with a 7-7 deadlock at the end of one quarter. El Reno just fumbled and McAlester has it at the Indians’ 34.
7:50 p.m.: El Reno answers back quickly with an 18-yard TD pass to Jovia Franklin.
7:45 p.m.: McAlester strikes with big plays to go 70 yards in five plays for the first TD.
7:15 p.m.: It’s 15 minutes to kickoff on a misty, foggy evening at El Reno’s Memorial Stadium. The new version of the stadium is pretty nice. McAlester brought a big crowd up, and El Reno’s fans are still filtering in. The winner of this game gets the Carl Albert-Tulsa Kelley winner. I’ll keep you updated as often as possible, at least with all the scoring. Should be a fun one.
