Players of the week: Moore Zone

Moore zone players of the week

Not too hard to choose which school to select the player of the week from considering Southmoore was the only school to play last week. However, selecting just one player from a too-close-for-comfort win over Lawton Eisenhower is tough.

Sam York, kicker: York booted a 30-yard field goal with five seconds left to take the 34-32 victory in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Kendal Thompson, quarterback: Thompson didn’t have his most accuarate day, but made huge plays when the SaberCats needed them, including a 16-yard sprint to the 13-yard line with less than 10 seconds to go to set up the game-winning field goal.

Andrew Long, running back: Ran for 126 yards against Lawton Ike before cramps set in. Had a 95-yard TD run and also threw a touchdown pass on a fake field goal attempt.

Austin Brooks, Austin Reece, Labron Brown and Ethan Baker: Defensive standouts each made a big play in the game at key times. Baker made numerous game-altering stops throughout the contest.

Julian Wilson: The senior had his usual strong effort defensively, although there was a whole lot of passes to defend for the OU commitment. Still, he also played receiver and late in the game came in as an emergency tailback, where he ran well and looked anything like a last-gasp fill-in.

Nyko Symonds, receiver: Played well at corner and made two big catches for first downs during the game-winning drive.
