Outsider’s View: Mustang vs. Southmoore…

As luck would have it, The Boneman will have the best seat in the state Friday night when Mustang and Southmoore battle for the District 6A-1 crown.
Ryan is headed to Glenpool and Star Spencer. And Mustang writer Scott Wright is headed to Yukon and Choctaw to see if the Millers can earn a playoff berth. In that same situation, Southmoore writer Justin Harper will be covering Norman and Lawton Eisenhower to see if the Tigers will punch their playoff ticket.
So here I am (the Edmond and private schools writer) just kinda luckin’ into this one. I’m pumped, real pumped for this one. It took me a while to come around to Southmoore (but I have) while Mustang with Daniel Farrow has looked like the best West side team in the last month.
Mustang (7-2, 5-1)
I saw this team once, back in Week 2 against Edmond North. It was there that I realized how good David Glidden is. QB Jacinto Biorato was on fire. He cooled off, but Brandon Taylor has been efficient. He has eight touchdowns vs. one interception.
Farrow has been the missing piece to the puzzle. I know I wasn’t alone last year in saying this kid was special at Putnam West, but I truly felt he was a special talent.
It’s been one insane game after another since he started playing in Week 5. And to be honest, I don’t know if we’ve seen the best from him yet. Now that’s scary.
Defensively, this group takes a lot of heat, but there is some strong talent. The Broncos have four kids with at least seven sacks, led by Alex Doty’s 12. Justus Elliot has 10, Blake Wood has eight and Blake Moss has seven.
And Glidden is just as much a threat in the secondary as he is as a receiver, leading the team with five interceptions.
Southmoore (8-1, 5-1)
OK, admit it right now, I’ve never seen this team play in two years. I’ve never even been to the high school yet. So all of this is off of what I’ve read and from talking to Justin Harper about things.
Obviously, the story with the SaberCats is all the Oklahoma commitments. You already had Julian Wilson, and in one fell swoop, now there’s Austin Haywood and Kendal Thompson. If you want more on that, go here.
Crazy.
I’m most interested in seeing Nyko Symonds play. He seems like a freak of a high school talent. Someone who just has a nose for the ball. And sophomore RB Andrew Long is seemingly going by unnoticed with his 1,042 yards and six TDs.
Seems like George Mallett (110 tackles) and Ryan Long (94 tackles, four sacks) lead the defensive front. With all the talent in the skilled positions, can’t forget about those guys in the trenches.
So I leave it up to you, Southmoore and Mustang fans, what else should I be looking for Friday?

Robert you will really enjoy watching Nyko Symonds he is one of the best two-way players in the state being the leading receiver for Kendal (over 600 yards) and leading the team in INT’s (4) and just seems to make big plays and around the ball all the time (he has recovered 4 fumbles this year too). While Kendal and Austin get all the attention that Symonds kid has really made a HUGE difference at Southmoore bringing a versatile WR to the offense and a lockdown corner on defense. The last 3-4 games defenses have doubled team him with safety over the top and it has opened up Haywood quite a bit as Southmoore has so many weapons. Kendal is SO cool behind center they never get rattled (they were down to memorial, midwest city and del city on the road and they came back to win). So yes watch Symonds a great athlete. But to me the key to the game that you need to watch is which defense steps up–both offenses equal each other out but whichever defense makes some stops or forces turnovers will win this game. Offense wins games and both teams have won a bunch of games but defense wins championships and the better defense on Friday night wins the district championship.
Does Southmoore have their own stadium, or do they play at Moore High School?
Southmoore shares the stadium. I was just saying I’ve heard a lot about the facilities at the HS, but I’ve never seen ‘em.

Southmoore shares the Moore Stadium with all other Moore schools, Southmoore wins 44-35
No body remember Southmoores great kicker who will win them the game with 3 field goals

It looks like Mustang offense vs Southmoore defense. Who can stop who? No one will stop Farrow–Southmoore just hopes to cntain him. Very hard. I pick Southmore defense-just a blue collar outfit that never gives up. Southmoore 52 Mustang 47.
John, if I see 99 points in this one, I might never shut up. I went nuts last week for a 10-0 Edmond Memorial win over Edmond North. 99 would be insane.
