Heritage: Sterling Shepard out for season?

Oh no, The Boneman jinx is alive and well. One week after naming Heritage Hall’s Sterling Shepard as the player of the week, his season is in jeopardy.

Shepard suffered a severe concussion in the second quarter of the 12-7 loss to John Marshall.

At this point, it’s out of coach Andy Bogert’s hands. He’s not going to risk it. Shepard is meeting with neurologists this week to see what is the best course of action.

This the second concussion of the season for Shepard, a sophomore. He suffered one vs. Casady and missed the Weatherford game. He plays with such reckless abandon, and it’s catching up to him.

Shepard surprised the team by showing up for film Saturday. He didn’t remember much about the game, but he remembered going to the hospital. The CAT scan results came out normal, so that was a positive, Bogert said.

Cooper Cloud will remain the quarterback. Bogert was happy with Cloud’s outing vs. the Bears, citing some dropped balls were what really hurt the offense.

I thought maybe Cale Courtney might be moved back over, but Bogert said Courtney has become such a weapon as a wide receiver that it’s best to have Cloud stay at the position.

And with the way Mt. St. Mary’s is playing right now, this is not a gimme Friday night. How quickly things can change.

Heritage can still win the district with a victory Friday, but things just got very interesting (and scary) for the Chargers. Hope Shepard is OK, he’s a good kid.
