Where’s Duncan and El Reno?

I woke up this morning to see my inbox bombarded (OK, too strong a word) with legit questions as to why El Reno (9-0, 6-0) and Duncan (8-1, 6-0) was not included in the Top 10 games of the week.

Huh?

After consulting with ace reporter Ryan Aber about this (who compiles the list), hey, we flubbed up on this one. It was a mistake.

This game is definitely in the 2-4 range. Glenpool and Star Spencer is big, Mustang and Southmoore deserves its spot and Bartlesville and Broken Arrow should be a fun one.

But after that, yea, this game deserves its place.

And while we forgot about it for the top 10 games, we most certainly didn’t forget about it for Friday night’s coverage as Matt Patterson will there live and in living color for the District 5A-1 championship.

El Reno’s defense is ridiculous this year, allowing just over 10 points per game. Duncan has quietly gone under the radar.

Think some fans forgot about this team after the Carl Albert loss. Hey, that was just one of those nights. This team is dang good.

I gotta tell ya while I hate when we make a blunder like this, I love the outpouring of support from both sides. I’ve had e-mails from Duncan and El Reno fans about this one. Obviously the teams and their supporters are fired up. I am, too, for this one.

Southmoore, give me a break! This first year school is just experiencing some good luck in their growing this year! El Reno and Duncan on the other hand have been powerhouses more years in their existence, than Southmoore, Glenpool, or Bartlesville ever thought about being! Give El Reno credit where credit is due! Tom Cobble is the best OSSAA football coach ever! How many other coaches have you seen go from one school to his alma mater, to another school, to another school, think about retiring, and then come back to his first love, El Reno to finish out another great season of teaching and coaching? El Reno should be #1 just because of him alone, not takin away from their talent on the field, but also because Tulsa schools should all be in their own district, and not spread out among the west side schools in the state.

David, I appreciate the passionate response. But this isn’t about who has been a historically better program. This is all about this season and this week’s games and how they match up. Those top four games are interchangeable in my opinion, just pick ‘em out of a hat.
Cobble has done a crazy-good job in his two years with the Indians, nobody is discounting that. Right now, there are three undefeated teams in 5A (Bishop Kelley, ER and Shawnee). Whoever is left standing will have definitely earned the gold ball.

I smell a lot of home town bias in david’s post

Smell whatever u want, Chuck, I call it as I see it! El Reno may never make the regular season #1 spot, thanks to the biased Daily Disappointment sports staff, but MAKE NO MISTAKE, THE INDIANS WILL TAKE STATE THIS YEAR!

Looking back on it, I would’ve put Duncan at El Reno No. 2 on the list behind Star Spencer-Glenpool.

Bias has nothing to do with why El Reno isn’t No. 1. Tulsa Kelley jumped the Indians when they beat Tulsa Washington and have stayed there as they’ve continued to be impressive. If Kelley were to lose this week, or were to have lost any week before this, El Reno would be No. 1.

I’ve written several times on the job that Cobble has done over there and how remarkable it has been. He’s one of my favorite coaches in the state.

Also, I’ve picked El Reno to win every game this season and had them ranked fifth to start the season. Not sure where you’re seeing any bias.
