Softball: Class 6A, 5A preview…

So hopefully we can conclude the softball season this weekend. If we do, I think it’s going to be an interesting dynamic to have all seven classes at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium for two days.
It’s a softball lover’s dream, and a recruiter’s dream. Just camp out there and watch who you want.
Looked at 4A-B last week, so let’s return the favor with a brief look at 5A and 6A. And here are the pairings from yesterday’s blog entry.
Class 6A
Defending champion: Broken Arrow
Outlook: All signs point to a Mustang and Yukon championship, which would be a ridiculous atmosphere for the two rival schools.
The Millerettes haven’t missed a beat since losing senior P Dani Fox for the season. But will they here?
Mustang is loaded, and coach Tim Wade has done a phenomenal job this season. I’m thinking Kayla Ratliff might play big role in something.
But if one of the two are knocked off, I could see any number of teams making a splash and ruining the party.
Broken Arrow and Moore with their tradition might be able to will themselves to the top spot. Not much has been talked about on the two schools because of how much each lost from last year. But surprise, surprise, here they are.
Edmond North is incredibly young, so maybe they don’t feel the pressure and play a loose weekend. Look for a story on freshman P Jordan Dixon in Thursday’s paper.
The wild card is Edmond Santa Fe and Sierra Bronkey. She might just put the Wolves on her back and just carry ‘em home. She’s waited for this moment.
Prediction: Yeah, since I’ve done so well in this area (oy). My gut says Yukon is pulling it out this year.
Class 5A
Defending champion: Lawton MacArthur
Outlook: It’s possible when I write this preview again next year, the defending champion line is not going to be changing.
I’ve looked at the bracket and played it over in my head, and I just don’t see how this is not a Lawton Mac vs. McAlester championship.
McAlester sophomore pitcher Taylor Dewberry might be the best in the state. I just don’t see how a team will touch her up.
For Oklahoma City area teams, El Reno was a surprise (in my opinion) to be here for the third year in a row. Junior Maddie Stein is leading the way with her bat.
And Colin White and the Carl Albert Titans are back after a year away from it all. Whitney Robinson and Molly Davidson do a little bit of everything for that club.
Prediction: I like McAlester on a hunch.
Once again, kudos to the rankings. These almost worked out exactly like they were supposed to.
Class 6A: Mustang (1); Yukon (2); Broken Arrow (3); Moore (4); Union (5); Santa Fe (6); North (9); Bartlesville (10).
Class 5A: McAlester (1); Lawton Mac (2); Coweta (3); Collinsvile (4); Carl Albert (5); El Reno (7); Skiatook (8); Duncan (9).
Back Thursday for bloggin’, tweetin’ and all that other good stuff.

Mustang has a really good team but it seems that they never get the credit that they deserve. They have one of the best pitchers in the state in Ashley Paxton and one of the best freshman as well in Kierra Miles. Go Broncos
Ashley is one of my ‘players to watch’ in Thursday’s paper. This is an excellent team, and I’m excited to see how 6A plays out. It’s wide open, if you ask me.
