Players of the week: Moore Zone

 

Football

Kendal Thompson, QB, Southmoore

Thompson accounted for five touchdowns in the fourth-ranked SaberCats’ 47-21 victory over No. 5 Del City Friday. Thompson ran for a score and threw for touchdowns of 46, 28, 28 and 66 yards, All told, the junior completed 16 of 20 passes for 308 yards and ran for 48.

 

Others:

Derek Serowski, WR, Southmoore

Serowski scored two touchdowns on receptions of 46 and 28 yards in a win over Del City.

 

Nyko Symonds and Julain Wilson, DBs, Southmoore

The SaberCats’ corners clamped down on Del City standout receivers Chris McAlister and Donovan Dan, keeping both out of the end zone for the first time this season.

 

Andrew Long, RB, Southmoore

Long had a 28-yard reception for a touchdown and a 76-yard run for a TD in helping Southmoore pile up more than 500 yards total offense.

 

Dalton Hilliard, RB/LB, Moore

The senior running back scored Moore’s second touchdown of the season and first since the first game of the year with a two-yard run on the Lions’ opening drive of the game Thursday Lawton. The yardage was not much, but the significance of scoring on its first drive was big for Moore.

 

Chris Clark, LB, Moore

Clark returned a fumble for a touchdown in the waning moments of the Lions’ loss to Lawton. Aside from playing strong defensively all game, Clark’s late-game TD demonstrated perseverance in a game that was already decided.

 

Cross country

Taylor Painter, Westmoore

The senior held off Enid’s Kaitlyn Belisle to win by one second at the Oklahoma Baptist meet on Saturday. Painter’s individual win in 12:22 helped the Jaguars to the team title as well.

 

Others:

Naomi Hernandez, Westmoore

Placed third at the OBU meet with a time of 12:40 in the two-mile run.

 

Ashley Sparkes, Southmoore

Placed sixth at the OBU meet with a time of 12:43.

 

Toby Bothwell, Westmoore

Once again, Bothwell placed first individually at a cross country event. Bothwell’s winning time of 16:18 was 18 seconds faster than the runner-up.

 

Lauren Parenica, Moore

Placed third at the Oklahoma Christian Invitational on Friday with a 3,200 meter time of 12:37.
