Del City figures to be OK in 6A-1
Despite Del City’s winning streak coming to an end last week with a 47-21 loss to Southmoore, I don’t think the Eagles have cause for great concern just yet. Sure, they’ve got to work on the things that allowed the SaberCats to put up 47 points but they aren’t going to face a team with the kind of skill-position depth that Southmoore has unless they go against Jenks, Union or Broken Arrow in the playoffs.
That certainly doesn’t mean things are going to be easy if Del City is to break a string of seasons ending without a playoff appearance. I expect them to beat Edmond Santa Fe this week and Moore Oct. 23. But next week’s game against Lawton, Oct. 15 at Norman North and two road games at Mustang and Putnam North to end the season figure to be toss ups. Del City has to win at least two of these games to get into the playoffs. I think they do it. Their problem is some of their top offensive players are also some of their top secondary players. That is deadly agianst a team with the kind of receiving depth that Southmoore has. They won’t see that again. They’ve got a very big, but quick, defense and an offense that has showed signs of balance lately. Del City will be inm the playoffs this year,
