Game capsule: Norman vs. Putnam City West
Putnam City West at Norman
Norman (1-2) vs. Putnam City West (0-3)
When: 7:30 p.m. tonight
Where: Harve Collins Field
Norman
Why the Tigers can win: Norman is more confident than it has been all season and coming off its first win, a shutout of Moore. What’s more, the Tigers walloped PC West last year in what was their best offensive performance of the season. With Norman being improved offensively and the Patriots struggling on defense, it could be déjà vu for both teams.
Putnam City West
Why PC West could win: The Patriots are extremely motivated, knowing this is a winnable game for them. And they haven’t tasted victory since 2007, so that motivation will go a long way.
Justin’s key matchup: Norman’s secondary vs. PC West’s passing game.
With Jaime Myers having logged three interceptions in three games and the rest of the DBs adding another five, Norman has the ability to shutdown a passing game. However, the Patriots’ Young has yet to throw an interception this season and the QB doesn’t make risky throws.
Justin’s pick: Norman 30, Putnam City West 12.
Norman has the better athletes and more depth than Putnam City West. Plus, the Tigers are on their turf and celebrating homecoming.
Scott’s key matchup: Norman run-stoppers vs. PC West offensive line. The key to offensive success for the Patriots will be establishing the run to open up things up for the pass. PC West is smaller than most 6A schools on the O-line, so it’s hard work to get the running game on track.
Scott’s pick: PC West 30-28.
The offense is coming together and the defense is out to prove they’re better than the 55 points they gave up to Edmond Santa Fe last week.
