Game Capsule: Norman vs. Del City
Norman (0-1) vs. Del City (1-0)
When: 7:30 p.m. tonight
Where: Harve Collins Field
Norman
Why the Tigers can win: Norman has scaled down the offense a little after a somewhat ineffective game against Norman North last week. More rushing success could free up quarterback Chad Anderson to make more plays.
Del City
Why the Eagles can win: Del City is coming off its biggest win in years after upsetting rival Midwest City last week. The Eagles have a fast defense that is overshadowed by the offense but just as good.
Key matchup: Norman running back Donovan Roberts vs. Del City defensive lineman JJ Hugine.
Norman has to provide quarterback Chad Anderson more time and one way to do that would be to establish the run with Roberts so that Hugine and mates can’t charge straight upfield every play. Roberts has the ability and conditioning to carry the ball 20 times a game. Hugine, meanwhile, had five sacks last year and likes going after the QB.
The pick: Del City 17, Norman 13. The Tigers have things to work on and showing improvement against a team this solid on both sides of the ball will go a long way toward becoming better — even if in defeat.
