Norman ready to see offense work over someone in different jersey

One last day of practice before school starts for Norman, but the Tigers are looking past Thursday to Friday. That’s when Lawton comes to Harve Collins Field and will provide Norman with some long-awaited answers.

Not to disparage Lawton at all, but really the opponent doesn’t mean anything at this point. Norman players are just anxious to see if the offensive success they’re seeing in practice translates into points and yards against a foe in a different colored jersey.

These kids have fine memories and last year’s epic offensive struggle has to still cloud their vision of what this season could bring. Everything the Tigers have witnessed in practice has been more than promising. Fact is, the weapons are in place for Norman to be a score-board terror.

But until the kids see results against someone else, the thought-process will be to wonder if improvement could be as substantial as it seems.

Here’s the thing: Chad Anderson is a good quarterback. Potential to be really good. He’s got all the tools and no one is smarter. He’s not going to make mistakes.

Donovan Roberts is a proven stout running back (even if he is just a sophomore) and as covered on this blog yesterday, the receiving crew is made up of a bunch of playmakers   Jaime Myers in particular.

On paper it all adds up. But Norman no doubt wants to see results against someone from off campus. Best bet here is, those results will come frequently Friday.

I will be glad to see it too, but for another reason. Maybe the Oklahoman will see that some football is also being played down south here in Lawton. There hasn’t seemed to be any mention of any Lawton teams yet. I know that the coverage is always slanted to the Metro. Makes sense, you have to focus to your readers. But when you are trying to sell papers here in Lawton and you don’t get many takers, that’s the reason!
