Lightning ends Tigers practice early

Norman’s first practice of the season was cut short due to lightning. The Tigers’ 8 a.m. practice lasted until about 10:45 before Norman trainer Russ Schuchman, using a digitial device which detects lightning in the area, alerted coach Greg Nation. Even if the lightning wasn’t present, a downpour ensued which would have made practicing futile.

At any rate, the players headed in and watched some film for the remainder of the session.

“We weren’t able to practice but we were still learning,” said senior quarterback Chad Anderson. “But we were looking good when we were out there. We were kind of getting the rust off.”

Running back Donovan Roberts and receiver Jaime Myers were two players who stood out in the practice before the lightning. Anderson said all the receivers were doing well in drills, too.

Norman will practice again Wednesday at 8 a.m. The Norman school district does not begin classes until Aug. 20, so Norman and Norman North have a little more practice time than many schools in the metro area (which start Thursday).
