The Stooges: Week 10
Down the stretch they come, and it’s a two-horse race. Another brilliant week by Ray Ray has him taking over the lead from Ryan. Jason and Bonehead are fighting it out for who will come in last. Since there was no top 10 games from this week, the stooges were freaking out. Hey, we’re just stooges, we don’t know any better. But never fear, Bonehead composed himself and made his own list (and can’t count as there are 12 games). On with the show…

PC to face McGuinness?
by Brandon Chatmon
bchatmon@opubco.com
It has yet to be finalized but it looks like Putnam City will play Bishop McGuinness this season.
A few weeks back we reported the PC would face Lincoln (N.Y.) and McGuinness would take on Duncanville (Texas) on Dec. 11 in Oklahoma City at a venue to be named later on the ESPN family of networks.
I’m hearing rumors that now, after the injuries to McGuinness’ big man Daniel Orton (knee) and Putnam City standout Xavier Henry (facial injury), the two Oklahoma City area schools will likely face each other on Dec. 11 in Dallas at a venue which has not been determined. Lincoln will now face Duncanville.
I knew with Xavier and Daniel both unlikely to play Dec. 11, it was just a matter of time before ESPN changed their plans.
Keep checking the Oklahoman, when everything becomes official it will be in the paper.
The place to be is 5A…
By Robert Przybylo
BPrzybylo@opubco.com
Whether it’s for the most simplest of reasons (5A-3) or the most complicated/fun reasons (5A-1), Class 5A is the hotbed for Friday night. Well, in one Boneman’s opinion, anyway.
It’s where arguably the game of the week will happen with Booker T. against Bixby. The Spartans, I thought, were going to have a down year this year. No, siree. On the other hand, the Hornets exploded out of the gate with a dominating win against Carl Albert. Who’s going to win? Find out for the Stooges tomorrow afternoon.
No complicated scenario with this one. The winner takes home the crown, loser places second. Both of these teams should be around when we get down the final eight if not the final four of 5A.
The fun in 5A-2 is all about that final spot. Two teams who know what is needed. It’s Ardmore at Durant. How will the first year of Larry McBroom’s tenure at Ardmore end? And for the Lions, could this be it for the White family? I’ve enjoyed watching Bo and Max White the last couple of years.
And I can’t stress enough how much fun 5A-1 is. It’s pretty cool to have the top four teams all battling it out against each other, knowing that it’s possible whoever is in first place today could be in fourth Friday night.
5A-4 is without such drama. Yeah, there are some issues with McAlester, Ada and Tahlequah. But that district is all about the surprising emergence of Coweta.
And just for fun, the other game I’m pumped about would have to be Eufaula at Chandler. Ethan Sharp vs. Jack Gray – now that should be fun.
PC North RB duo a powerful combination
By Matt Patterson
Putnam North is 6-3 overall and while the Panthers’ defense has had its issues, the team does have a couple of clock killing running backs in its backfield.
Josh Booker sits at 965 yards, needing just a handful more to top the 1,000 mark for the second consecutive season. He has an 8.94 YPC average and has scored 15 touchdowns.
Not far behind is Greg Lewis who has 830 yards and a seven touchdowns. He’s averaging over 6 yards per carry.
“As a quarterback both of those guys give you a lot of confidence because you know you can just feed them the ball and they’ll get the yards,” PCN’s Hunter Frantz said. “They’re both great players.”
A little love for Punters
By Matt Patterson
High school kicking games are usually more about adventure than anything approaching reliability but there are a few players in Class 6A who have distinguished themselves with the art of the punt.
Austin Brasher, Edmond North: 28 punts for a 43-yard average
Ronson Calfy, Moore: 45 punts for a 39-yard average
Gavin Little, Claremore: 50 for a 34-yard average
Trent Williams, Putnam North: 35 for a 34-yard average.

Putnam City is fighting for a spot in the playoffs, and a win over Edmond Memorial would go a long ways in determing that. The Pirates (4-2), Edmond Northan (4-2) and even Westmoore (3-3) are all the mix for the third and fourth spots with Midwest City and Edmond Memorial locking up the top two.
“This game has huge implications for the playoff seedings,” PC coach Mark Little said. “It goes without saying it’s critical. There’s a lot of figuring going on. We could be out or we could be third.”
The Pirates are getting healthy at the right time.
“We’re getting there,” Little said. “We’re still not 100 percent but we’re better off than we were.”

Dem wacky, wacky scenarios…
By Robert Przybylo
BPrzybylo@opubco.com
Not every district scenario is a doozy. Take for instance 5A-2. Booker T. plays Bixby, winner is first, loser is second. Bishop Kelley plays Miami, winner is third, loser is fourth.
This should be an easy night. And then you come to 5A-1, and perhaps the most ugly district standings ever. Five teams (El Reno, Deer Creek, Lawton Mac, Altus, Duncan) could end up 5-2 and 2-2 against each other. Say wha? I consider myself a person with above average intelligence. But I’m not a rocket scientist. And trying to figure out precisely what needs to happen for all five teams doesn’t sound like any fun.
Thankfully for me, fellow chum Ryan Aber is rejoicing for moments like this. So maybe rejoicing is too big a word, but he’s more than up to the task of really trying to figure this one out.
Everything can be made simple if El Reno and Deer Creek win and Altus lose. El Reno (1st), Deer Creek (2nd), Duncan (3rd) and Lawton Mac (4th). But that wouldn’t be any fun. Not. One. Bit.
Ryan is still hard at it, trying to figure out everything. When he’s done, I’ll be more than happy to post it. I like figuring these things out, too, but it’s tough when you print it. I don’t want to short-change anybody, and it’s real easy to forget a certain scenario happening.
What I did find interesting while talking with Deer Creek coach Grant Gower was that he has no problem letting his players know every scenario.
I thought that might get into the players’ heads and have them shooting for a certain mark instead of just playing loose.
But he said he wanted to tell the guys the truth about everything. I admire that while also being a bit befuddled by it.
A-7 was tough with Morrison, Woodland and Tonkawa, but I don’t think anything can compare to the chaos of 5A-1. That’s why they pay Ryan the big bucks, wink wink.
PC North feeling confident
By Matt Patterson
PC North quarterback Hunter Frantz had one his better games in a win over Lawton Thursday. The senior scored on an 81 yard run, his ninth rushing touchdown this year.
Frantz said he thinks he and his teammates have shaken off the duldrums that was present during consecutive losses to Mustang and Edmond Santa Fe.
“We wanted to get back on the right track,” he said. “Two weeks in a row we had fallen short. We practiced harder and showed a lot more desite. We didn’t change any of our schemes, but we changed metnally. We learned a lot from two weeks of losing.”
PCN (5-3) could have their hands full with Del City who has played well in recent weeks, including an upset of Norman North.
“We don’t take them lightly,” Frantz said. “They beat one of the best teams in the state. We can’t afford to look past them. They’ve got a lot of speed.”
PC faces tall order against Edmond Memorial
By Matt Patterson
Putnam City will face Edmond Memorial this week in their regular season finale and for the Pirates it may tell the story on where or if they will play in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs.
Both teams are coming off wins over rivals. Memorial (7-2) handled Edmond North and PC took down PC (5-4) West Friday. But Memorial would have to be consdiered the favorite.
”For us to beat them we’re going to have to play our best,” PC coach Mark Little said. “It’s going to take an extreme effort. Their defense is outstanding and their offense has been improving. We’ve basically nickled and dimed our way to this point.”
