I guess this is an old article, and I am not sure how many people would read it, but I have to say something about Coach Tuley. Coach Tuley was and is a fantastic coach for Capitol Hill and has done a great deal of good for kids that don't come from much. He has a special place in my heart for a different, but related, reason. Coach Tuley was a huge influence in my life as well. In 1983, I arrived at Capitol Hill from a little town in Iowa. Coach Tuley didn't know anything about me, but I went to speak with him about being a manager for the basketball team. He took me in, despite the fact that I am a woman, and gave me the chance of a lifetime. He helped me learn about athletic training and entrusted me with several critical tasks with the team. I taped ankles. I supervised whirlpools. I managed equipment, and I did many other jobs that I never dreamed I would be responsible for at the age of 16. Coach Tuley always believed in me, and he gave me a confidence that has lasted a lifetime. He also allowed me a unique opportunity to experience gender bias firsthand while supporting my rather nontraditional goals. I did not end up being a trainer, though I spent three years in the training room at Oklahoma, but what I took from working with that basketball team has led me to a career in, amongst other things, gender study and teaching. I don't believe I ever thanked Coach Tuley for all he did for me, or at least I never thanked him properly. I am so glad that he has continued his great work and is being recognized for it after this long and wonderful career. Thanks Coach!

Coach Tuley, was an inspiration to us that played at Redlands CC. always helping us in all that we young basketball players would come accross. Years later, I remember calling Coach Tuley once and asking him for a letter of recomendation for Law School; It seems as if Coach Tuley was the one going to law school, he was so excited to hear that one of his players will attend to law school. Tuley as I call him never stopped encouraging us, even after our basketball career in college or as Professional basketball players . I always thought about how a great mentor he was. to all of his players.
