Westmoore track and cross country star Katelin Cherry is about as amiable and soft-spoken person as you’ll meet. She’s also a three-time state champion in track and state runner-up in cross country. And while she loves running, her character and somewhat shy personality tends to make her dislike constant competition.
Wednesday, Cherry said she essentially took the summer off so that she could “re-kindle my love for running.” Cherry has a tremendous friendly rivalry with Tulsa Union’s Sara Vaughn (the 2006 5A state champ in cross country). However, she doesn’t like to focus on that.
“I really love running, but all the competition gets me tired of it sometimes,” Cherry said. “This summer, I just wanted to run and not compete with anyone, just relax. It helped a lot.”
