I host a website, www.nopaddle.com, about school paddling as physical abuse, sexual abuse, and sexual harassment.
Most people are "ok" in most ways, but statistically, and that is what we are talking about in broad measures, paddling countries have lower academic success overall than non, and paddling states likewise have lower academic success, and higher violent crime stats, than non-paddling.
Paddling is in many ways even worse than home spanking, which can also be harmful. The paddlers have no love of the children, and they often paddle into very sexually mature and aware years.
It is also very harmful to the paddlers, who often very naturally come to enjoy spanking and paddling other people's kids.
There are 52 cards in the deck of child care, and two jokers, Paddling is one of the jokers, and not a very funny one.
It is sad that the US, far from a leader, is a laggard in promoting legaized government sponsored child abuse.
These days with internet linked spy cams in schools it is also very possible legalized child porno is now being manufactured in paddling school offices, where "children" are paddled right through age 18 in many schools.

I will say this, I graduated high school in 1990 and when we got in trouble we were paddled and guess what I did not turn out to be more aggressive, abusive or any of the other crap that these psychologist seem to think will happen. What is wrong with the schools and kids today is that they are coddled when they get in trouble because God forbid that the little angels get in trouble and actually take responsibility for their actions instead they run to momma and daddy crying because someone was mean too them. I feel really sorry for them when they get into the real world, whats gonna happen, they get in trouble at work, run to momma and daddy to go talk to that mean ole manager because they cannot take responsibility for their actions.

If you look at the kids today versus the kids 20 years ago... there is no comparison because we would have NEVER talked to teachers they way they do, behave and dress the way they do and talked to our parents the way they do and some parents wonder why their kids act the way they do, because their parents do not discipline them... they are given time outs, hmmmm..... I wonder how that would work in the business world.. "Jim you go over there in the corner and think about all that money you just embezzled from the company".... give me a break, they would go to jail.

A spanking with a paddle isn't gonna hurt them and they aren't gonna turn into some crazed maniac and start abusing people. I know that there are correct ways and incorrect ways to do things and that paddling can be done incorrectly but I also think they are effective. When I was in the 8th grade I was horse-playing in shop class, got caught and got 2 swats by the teacher, and guess what, I never did it again cause I didn't want another paddling.

Anyhow, to each their own and I would be willing to bet that my kids (and I swatted them on the rear when they got in trouble and one of them just graduated from high school a National Honor Society Student) will probably act better than those who were not swatted, but of course thats my opinion and we are all entitled to our own opinions!

I am sure that swatting may work for some and not for others for whatever reason, and I just think that it is the make up of the child and their home environment and what works for that family but I think more times than not a swat would be more of a deterrent than a simple "write 100 sentences saying I will not bully little Jimmy again".

Just my 2 cents, don't really care if you agree or not, just a stance!

20 states school disciplinary practices promote violence and sexual abuse of children. Physical/Corporal Punishment is especially disturbing as today it is legal for teachers to hit school children with wooden paddles to deliberately inflict physical pain and suffering as punishment in schools in 20 U.S. states, (these actions constitute sexual assault when done to a non-consenting adult),when the practice is already illegal in schools in 30 states and prohibited by Federal law in prisons and juvenile detention centers. An Enfield, Conn. High School Teacher is facing sexual assault charges after being accused of spanking a female student in class in stark contrast to a recent incident where over a dozen high school girls in Alabama received "Spankings" for prom dresses that were too revealing. Note the disparity. For a real education of what is really happening to our children in our tax-payer funded schools simply type "A Violent Education" and "School is Not Supposed to Hurt" into an internet search engine to review recent shocking reports.

U.S. Congress H.R. 5628 "Ending Corporal Punishment in Schools Act" was introduced to Congress on June 29th by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) and is about to be put on a SHELF due to lack of votes in support of the ban, as it requires 25 votes to move it on to the next stage: as of July 27th it had 21 votes.

Please urge your U.S. Congress Rep. to Co-Sponsor/Support H.R. 5628 "Ending Physical/Corporal Punishment in Schools Act"
