I can remember my mom saying that. Sometimes it would branch off into other house work. And the if-you're-bored-clean-your-room statement was always a bit optional, but if I got stuck with, "then vacuum the living room," "sweep the front porch," or "do the dishes," commands, those were never optional. My grandma used to tell me that only boring people get bored. That worked like a champ too because I never wanted to be considered boring.
