The elephants will be going away for a while. The Oklahoman actually has a whole microsite dedicated to the elephants upcoming adventure. It will be sad to see them go, but I think that ultimately it will be a good thing for them. It is a great exhibit, but it is one of the only ones left in the zoo that hasn’t been given a facelift so that the animals have a more natural setting to lounge around int. Although the beef isn’t the best, or the fried “chip” that it’s in it does have a “salad” in with it.

Also, did you know I read in the zoo friends that the elephants are leaving for the Tulsa zoo to mate with the male elephant and will not be back until 2011?! Well that’s the way they made it sound. They said that while the elephants were gone they were going to remodel the pachyderm (spelling?) area and that it would be ready for their return, completed in 2011. Are you serious? That is the BEST part of the zoo!
