NFL quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suspended

(AP photo)

NFL Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger won’t face any sexual assault charges, but he will be suspended from the field for six games.

Roethlisberger will be suspended for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.  The missed games will cause the athlete to lose $3 million.

Earlier this month, a 20-year-old college student accused Roethlisberger of sexually assaulting her in a nightclub restroom.

The district attorney said there isn’t enough evidence to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.

Justin Bieber manager arrested

Teen singer Justin Bieber’s manager was arrested during an odd incident that involved Twitter and chaotic fans.

Bieber’s manager Scott Braun was taken into custody March 24 in New York and charge with reckless endangerment and criminal nuisance.

During  a mall appearance in November, police told Braun to send a Twitter message telling fans the event is canceled due to a fan frenzy, according to Billboard magazine.

Police say Braun didn’t immediately listen, and it took him an hour-and-a-half to send the messages, which contributed to the chaos.

I’ve heard of many types of arrests in my lifetime, but I’ve never heard of anyone being charged for not sending a Twitter message.  This is definitely a first for me.

The Real World cast member urinates on housemate’s toothbrush

A cast member on the upcoming season of MTV’s “The Real World: Back to New Orleans” urinated on another cast member’s toothbrush, causing him to become sick.

Cast member Ryan Leslie told police he got into an argument with Preston Roberson-Charles three weeks earlier.  He later became sick with a sore throat and fever, and he told police Roberson-Charles urinated on his toothbrush and scrubbed the toilet with it, according to a police report

He also said he was treated at the hospital for a viral infection as a result.

This will be the 24th season of the MTV’s “The Real World.”  There is usually always drama, fighting, alcohol abuse, screaming, sexual promiscuity, infidelity, pregnancy scare, racism, sexism and homophobia.

Those are reasons the show is still popular after more than two decades.   But urinating on a toothbrush is where I draw the line.  The cast member who did that should be jailed. That’s way beyond the line of disrespect.

The New Orleans season of “The Real World” will air later this year. The cast members are currently living and filming in a home owned by NBA player Baron Davis.

Attorneys for the woman who accuses Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of sexual assault say she did the right thing by going to police, and they are asking for privacy.

Atlanta-based attorneys Lee Parks and David Walbert released a statement to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Tuesday saying the woman is assisting police and that they ask the media “to respect her privacy, keep her name out of the press and allow the family space and time to heal.”

The attorneys didn’t return calls and e-mails from The AP.

Police are investigating the 20-year-old college student’s claim that Roethlisberger sexually assaulted her early Friday. Roethlisberger has not been charged.

Ed Garland, an attorney for the two-time Super Bowl winner, has said no sexual assault occurred and Roethlisberger is “completely innocent of any crime.”

D’Angelo arrested, accused of soliciting undercover cop

MySpace

R&B singer D’Angelo was arrested during the weekend, accused of trying to pay $40 to an undercover police officer who was posing as a prostitute in Virginia.

Police say the singer was driving in his Ranger Rover vehicle and offered a woman $40 to perform a sexual act.  He thought the woman was a prostitute, but she turned out to be a cop.

Police also said he was carrying $12,000 in his vehicle.

D’Angelo ought to be ashamed of himself.  Not because he was trying to hook up with a prostitute.  He should be ashamed because he was only going to pay her $40.

What a cheapskate.  He had $12,000 in his vehicle.  He should have at least offered her $200.

Meanwhile, D’Angelo’s spokesperson released the following statement.

“We know there is a lot of speculation in regard to the arrest of D’Angelo in New York City this past weekend. We would like his fans and the public at large to know that D’Angelo has plead not guilty—and is contesting the allegations made against him. Also know that, he is in good health and extremely excited about his forthcoming new album. D’Angelo would like to personally thank all of his fans for the outpouring of concern, and appreciates if all would allow the American justice system to resolve the matter before jumping to any conclusions.”

D’Angelo, 36, had three hits songs during the mid-1990s to early 2000s.  They were ”Brown Sugar,” “Lady,” and “Untitled (How Does it Feel).”

In 2001, he won a Grammy for best R&B album and best R&B male vocal performance.

Ben Roethlisberger accused of sexual assault

A 20-year-old college student is accusing NFL player Ben Roethlisberger of sexually assaulting her a nightclub.

This is the second woman whose of accused him of taking advantage of her.  In 2008, a woman claimed Roethlisberger raped her at hotel in Lake Tahoe.  Roethlisberger denies those allegations.

The full Associated Press story is posted below via NewsOK.

BY KATE BRUMBACK, ASSOCIATED PRESS

A 20-year-old college student accused Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of sexually assaulting her at a nightclub early Friday during a night on the town near where he owns a lake home.

Police said the alleged assault occurred early Friday morning in Milledgeville, about 85 miles southeast of Atlanta. The player owns a home about 30 miles to the north on Oconee Lake.

The two-time Super Bowl champion, who turned 28 on Tuesday, and some of his friends were seen visiting local restaurants and bars Thursday night.

Deputy Police Chief Richard Malone said Roethlisberger had been with three other people who were mingling with another group that included the alleged victim. Malone said the woman, a 20-year-old college student, and her party contacted a nearby police officer following the alleged assault.

“He’s been identified as being at the scene and there are allegations naming him as the perpetrator,” Malone said.

Several areas of the nightclub were considered a crime scene, Malone said, but he would not elaborate.

Roethlisberger and the alleged victim have been interviewed and the woman was taken to a hospital, where she was treated and released, Malone said.

The victim was not identified by police and The Associated Press does not generally identify possible victims of sexual abuse.

Police said Roethlisberger and his attorney were cooperating with investigators. He was not in custody and has not been charged with a crime.

The allegations are especially sensitive for Roethlisberger, who has been sued by a woman who claims he raped her in 2008 at a Lake Tahoe hotel. He denies those allegations and has asked for counter-damages.

The player’s agent, Ryan Tollner, said in a statement that they are skeptical of the motive of the alleged victim in Milledgeville because of the previous Lake Tahoe allegations.

“Last night, Ben and his friends met a group of women and everyone mingled together throughout the evening,” the statement said. “We have spoken to law enforcement. Based on information currently available, an allegation was made against Ben, which appeared to be dismissed after a preliminary investigation last night. Obviously, given the prior accusation against Ben, we are skeptical of motive, but we will continue to cooperate with everyone involved.”

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said the team was gathering information and had no more comment.

The nightclub, Capital City, is a popular spot for college students who attend Georgia College State University in Milledgeville. It was crowded Friday night, with a country band playing, and there was a $20 cover charge to get in.

One patron, 21-year-old college student Brandon Harris, said he saw Roethlisberger come in the night before with two or three big men, who were keeping other club goers away from the player.

The group went into a curtained VIP area in the back of the club, and some women were let inside.

The owner of a restaurant near the nightclub said Roethlisberger and some of his friends came in earlier Thursday night.

“He was very polite with everybody,” said Frank Pendergrast, owner of The Brick. “He was down here from about 11:30 until about 1:30 having a good time, talking to a lot of people. Looked like he was signing autographs and letting people take pictures. Other than that, it was really uneventful.”

Before that, the group went to Buffington’s, another downtown bar, to watch the University of Pittsburgh men’s basketball game, said Paul Kurcikevicus, a 24-year-old college student.

He said the group was friendly, at first joking that Roethlisberger was not the NFL player. Kurcikevicus said Roethlisberger bought some shots for other people in the bar: O-Bombs, a mixture of energy drink and flavored rum.

Pittsburgh’s first-round draft pick out of Miami of Ohio in 2004, Roethlisberger led the Steelers to Super Bowl victories at the end of the 2006 and 2008 seasons. But while he has been a huge success on the field, Roethlisberger has had his share of problems off it.

Besides the Lake Tahoe allegations, Roethlisberger broke his jaw and several other facial bones in 2006 when he got into a motorcycle crash while driving without a valid license.

Lil Wayne’s sentencing postponed due to courthouse fire

Luck was on rapper Lil Wayne’s side again today.  The rapper was not sentenced to jail today as expected.

A judge was supposed to hand down a jail sentence to  Lil Wayne today for a weapons conviction,  but the sentencing hearing was canceled due to a fire at the courthouse.

A fire occurred in the boiler room at Manhattan’s Criminal Court causing the lobby to fill with smoke.  The remaining cases on the court docket were postponed, including Lil Wayne’s hearing.

Lil Wayne was originally supposed to be sentenced during a hearing last month, but the judge agreed to delay it so the rapper can undergo some dental work.

First it was dental work that delayed Lil Wayne’s sentencing, and now it’s a fire that ‘s causing the delay.  What will it be next? A terror threat?

The sooner Lil Wayne can begin serving his sentence, the sooner he can be released and get back on stage to perform his catchy songs for all of us hip hop fans.

Michael Jackson’s doctor charged with involuntary manslaughter

Michael Jackson fans have been impatiently waiting for more than seven months for this day to occur.

Jackson’s doctor Conrad Murray was charged Monday with a count of involuntary manslaughter.  If he’s convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.

Jackson died June 25.  He’s accused of giving Jackson propofol and other sedatives to help him sleep.  Those drugs eventually lead to Jackson’s death.

Another actor has fallen prey to the DUI bug.

“Heroes” star Adrian Pasdar was arrested on a complaint of driving under the influence of alcohol.  Police said a man was veering across lanes and driving 94 miles per hour in West Hollywood on Wednesday (Jan. 27), according to the Associated Press.

He was released on $15,000 bail.

Pasdar is married to Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines.  He has portrayed Nathan Petrelli on “Heroes” since 2006.  He also spent two seasons on “Judging Amy” and appeared on three episodes of “Desperate Housewives.”

Andy Dick accused of sexual abuse

Andy Dick

Comedian Andy Dick was arrested Saturday on sexual abuse complaints.

According to the Associated Press, Dick was accused of grabbing a bouncer’s private parts.

The is the comedian’s second run-in with the law during the past couple of years.

In 2008, a 17-year-old girl accused him of pulling down her bra and exposing her breasts in public at a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in California.

It’s obvious this guy needs serious help.  In addition to prison time, I hope a judge sentences him to several months of mental counseling.

He also should be required to attend to attend a social skills class because he puts Kanye West to shame when it comes to public rudeness and disrespect.

Farrah Fawcett’s son arrested again

When Redmond O’Neal’s famous mother Farrah Fawcett died last summer, O’Neal vowed to stay out of jail and kick his drug habit.

However, the 24-year-old hit a stumbling block during the holiday season.  O’Neal was arrested Dec. 29 on a drug violation.  He was on probation at the time of his arrest due to previous drug arrests.

O’Neal was ordered Tuesday (Jan. 5) to serve 30 days in a jail rehab facility, according to People magazine.

O’Neal has a history of drug use in his immediate family.  His father Ryan O’Neal and his sister Tatum O’Neal are both recovering drug addicts.  Hopefully, he can kick his habit for good.

The Balloon Boy Family will finally pay the piper for that hoax they initiated two months ago when the lead authorities to believe their son was in a flying balloon.

Richard Heene, also known as Balloon Boy’s father, was sentenced Wednesday  to 90 days in jail by a Colorado judge.  His wife, Mayumi Heene, will spend 20 days in jail.

A prosecutor is also trying to force the family to pay more than $40,000 in restitution because that’s how much it cost for the search-and-rescue effort.  I agree with the judge’s decision on this case.

This couple had everyone terrified and glued to their television screen when it was believed their son was floating in a balloon by himself in Colorado.  The Heene family was hoping the publicity stunt would lead to a reality show.

Judge dismisses assault charge against gospel singer

A judge gave gospel singer BeBe Winans an early Christmas present.  The singer was cleared of any wrongdoing regarding a domestic abuse charge.

The singer was accused of assaulting his wife by shoving her to the ground. However, a judge dismissed all charges Dec. 4.  Winans released a statement that said “Even though this allegation has affected not just me, but also the entire Winans family, my children and certain aspects of my career, I chose to stay quiet because I knew the truth. To be exonerated of all charges shows the power of trusting in God, and is a wonderful Christmas gift for me and my children.”

I think the allegations were a stain on Winans reputation because he was a renowned gospel singer.  Even Oprah Winfrey distanced herself from the singer.  Winans was scheduled to appear on her show, but Winfrey canceled his appearance due to the pending abuse allegations.

The good news for Winans is maybe Winfrey will let him appear on her show now.

“Family Ties” child star arrested

Brian Bonsall

(from Colorado Daily newspaper)

That former child star’s mugshot in the photo above is  Brian Bonsall, the little boy from the 1980s sitcom “Family Ties.”

Bonsall was arrested during the weekend after he was accused of hitting his friend in the face with a stool.  According to a police report obtained by  Colorado Daily, his friend Micheal Trujillo told police Bonsall hit him with a broken bar stool during an argument.

Bonsall told police they were both drinking that night, they both like drugs and they’re both bipolar.  Bonsall also told police he didn’t remember what happened that night.

Bonsall played Michael J. Fox’s brother on “Family Ties” from 1986 to 1989.  He is currently on probation that stems from a 2007 incident in which he was accused of assaulting his girlfriend.

Mike Tyson and photographer arrested during airport fight

Former boxing champion Mike Tyson and a photographer were involved in a fight Wednesday at a Los Angeles airport.

A photographer told police Tyson hit him in the forehead, causing him to fall on the ground.   But Tyson’s spokesperson said the boxing legend was with his wife and 10-month-old baby when a photographer attacked him, according to the Associated Press.

The spokesperson said Tyson was acting in self-defense to protect his young child.  Tyson was detained in a holding cell at the airport.

The photographer was taken to the hospital, and he was arrested after his emergency room visit, according to the Associated Press.

I’m on the fence about this incident.  Tyson is a public figure, so he should recognize he’s going to be hounded by the paparazzi whenever he’s in public.

However, he had his 10-month-old baby with him.  The photographer shouldn’t have provoked him or had the camera in his child’s face.  Children should be off limits.

Also, the photographer should have known better than to get provoke Iron Mike Tyson, especially since the boxer is notorious for knocking people out.

We all know the economic downturn has affected many professions, including newspaper organizations and car manufacturers.

I guess the gloomy economy is also affecting the stand-up comedy industry–especially when comedians begin stealing.

Comedian Katt Williams was arrested on a burglary and trespassing complaint Sunday near Atlanta, according to the Associated Press.  He was accused of breaking into some one’s home and stealing $3,555 worth of jewelry and collectible coins.

The home belonged to the music producer Barry Hankerson.  Hankerson is the ex-husband of Gladys Knight and the uncle of the late R&B singer Aaliyah.

Williams denied the accusations, and he told the judge it was “a misunderstanding between me and two stupid detectives,” according to the Associated Press.

He also said he was staying at Hankerson’s home because he was filming a movie about President Obama.

I know Williams wasn’t a billionaire by any means, but I assumed he was making enough money where he wouldn’t have to steal anyone.

He’s appeared in numerous movies and television shows, including, “Norbit,” “First Sunday,” “Girlfriends,” “My Wife and Kids,” “Friday After Next” and “NYPD Blue,” among others.

Kanye West sentenced to community service

A Los Angeles judge Friday sentenced Kanye West and his manager to community service in connection with an altercation involving a photographer.

According to the Associated Press, the attorney told the court West would volunteer at the American Red Cross.  In return, all misdemeanor charges will be dismissed against West.

The altercation stems from an incident that occurred at a Los Angeles airport Sept. 2008.

West and his manager Don Crawley were caught on tape taking a camera from a photographer and crashing it on the floor.

In case you didn’t see the video clip of the incident when I posted it last year, its posted below.

Rapper Lil Wayne will soon be spitting outlyrics in a jail cell.

Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to a weapon possession charge Thursday.  His sentencing hearing will be in February, and he’s expected to serve one-year in jail, according to the Associated Press.

The charge stems from an incident where police found a gun on his tour bus in 2007.

Lil Wayne is smart businessman, and I’m sure he can turn this episode into something profitable.

When Lil Kim went to jail, she turned her ordeal into a reality show.  That’s something Lil Wayne should consider.

Big Brother winner accused of drug dealing

Adam JasinskiMost people who win a huge sum of money during a contest will spend it on a new car, a house, a vacation or to start their own business etc.

Adam Jasinski, the 2008 winner of the reality show “Big Brother” selected the fourth option.  He chose to invest his $500,000 prize money by creating his own business.

However, the business Jasinski created was illegal.

Jasinksi admitted using his $500,000 prize money to purchase 2,000 prescription pills to resell them for a profit, according to the Associated Press.

Jasinski was arrested Saturday in connection with the accusations.

Most people try to leave the drug-dealing profession whenever they become wealthy.

Jasinski is the first person I’ve heard of who receives $500,000, and chooses to become a drug dealer.

Stephanie Pratt arrested on DUI complaint

Stephanie Pratt

Stephanie Pratt fell from on top of “The Hills” and landed in jail cell.

Police say Pratt was arrested Sunday morning on a DUI complaint in Hollywood.  Pratt was attending Holly Montag’s birthday party a few hours earlier.

Pratt joined the cast of “The Hills’ in 2007.  She is the sister of Spencer Pratt.

Richard Hatch released from prison

Richard Hatch

The original “Survivor” winner Richard Hatch was released from prison Friday (Oct. 16) after serving a sentence for tax evasion.

Hatch was convicted in 2006 after he failed to pay taxes on the $1 million he won on the reality show “Survivor.”

Earlier this year, Hatch maintained the judge and prosecutor were discriminating against him because he’s gay.

Hatch was declared the champion on the first season of “Survivor” in 2000.

Soulja Boy was arrested

Soulja Boy

Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested this week accused of running from the police.

According to the Atlanta-Constitution Journal, Soulja Boy and a group of 40 people were at what appeared to be an abandoned house.   A police officer was dispatched to the home “after being told a group of people were hanging out there,” according to the publication.

The group of people told police they were shooting a music video.

When police approached the home, Soulja Boy took off running.  He was later arrested when he returned to retrieve his car.

This is one of the most ridiculous things to get arrested for.  Hopefully, law enforcement officials won’t file any charges against him because it just appears to be a misunderstanding. (assuming nothing illegal occurred)
