Sam Bradford gets buzzed by AXE

Sam Bradford before getting his hair AXED.

Sam Bradford after getting his hair AXED.

Sam Bradford may know how to control a football but his hair, well, according to him, that’s another story.

“As you can see my hair’s totally out of control,” the St. Louis quarterback said recently in New York. “It’s long, it’s nuts.”

Bradford, formerly a University of Oklahoma quarterback and 2008 Heisman Trophy winner is a new spokesman for AXE hair products, specifically AXE Buzzed Look Cream + SPF 15.

“Thankfully, they’ve taken me under their wing, they’re going to give me a new look — something that looks a little more in control and looks good.”

“Are you ready?” the AXE hairstylist said. With a nervous nod from Bradford, she began sheering off Bradford’s thick curly locks.

Shorter and shorter she sheered until nothing was left of Bradford’s former bed-head but a super-close buzz.

Looking at his new ‘do in the mirror, Bradford kept a poker face but said, “Awesome. Best buzz cut I ever got.”

Probably not the only buzz cut he ever got judging by one of his next comments.

“Most of the time my haircuts come in someone’s backyard or in someone’s garage…”

So, what do you think of Bradford’s new look? Personally, I prefer his adorable bed-head.

Chaz Bono wants to look like Michael Chiklis

Chaz Bono may have been born a girl, but he always felt he was a boy.

As everyone knows by now, Chaz is Sonny and Cher’s offspring, formerly known as Chastity.

“I’ve hated my body since puberty,” he says in Becoming Chaz, a documentary about his female-to-male transition.

In fact…

Bono reveals that as a little girl he would go to sleep at night “praying [he'd] wake up as a boy.”

Becoming Chaz, which premiered last weekend at the Sundance Film Festival, is absolutely fascinating. Bono reveals everything and more. He is shown having his breast removal operation, contemplating genital reassignment surgery and taking his hormone shots. “I just knew I wanted to be a boy,” Chaz says.

He talks openly about his recovery from substance abuse, his sex life and his relationship with longtime girlfriend Jenny Elia. Oh, and wait till you see the couple’s hairless cats.

Bono also says he’d love to have a body like actor…Michael Chiklis! “I’m never going to be a little guy,” he says.

Cher admits in the film that she was “terrified” to see Chaz after his breast surgery. She also says she thinks Sonny would have been supportive of Chaz’s decision. (We’re happy to report that Chaz’s stepmom, Republican U.S. Rep. Mary Bono, attended the Sundance premiere.)

When asked by an audience member after the screening if it was harder being born female or being born famous, Chaz said, “Definitely being born as a woman was a lot harder than being famous. You can figure out how to work that one, but if you’re a guy in a woman’s body you’re just screwed pretty much.”

Coproducers and directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato also announced that a sequel is already in the works. “I wanted to do this because I wanted to help people,” Chaz said. “And I knew that…I could put a face on this issue that people just don’t understand because it’s a hard one to understand. I wanted to be able to change people’s hearts and minds on this.”

Oprah Winfrey finds sister she didn’t know she had

Oprah Winfrey recently learned she has a half-sister — a Milwaukee woman who was put up for adoption by Winfrey’s mother nearly 50 years ago.

On “The Oprah Winfrey Show” that aired Monday, a sometimes-emotional Winfrey introduced a woman she identified only as Patricia, explaining how the woman’s years-long search for her family culminated in a meeting with Winfrey on Thanksgiving Day of last year.

The discovery is “the miracle of all miracles,” Winfrey told her audience.

Winfrey said she was stunned to learn about the sibling, telling her audience that when Patricia was born in 1963, Winfrey was 8 years old and living with her father. She did not even know her mother was pregnant.

Patricia said she had tried years ago to learn the identity of the woman who gave her up for adoption, and only started to try again a few years ago at the insistence of her two adult children, who also appeared on Monday’s show.

Patricia said she feared her search would be fruitless after she got a telephone call from the state adoption agency, which reported that her birth mother had been contacted and did not wish to meet her.

But, coincidentally, on the local news that day, she saw a story about Winfrey’s mother, who described how two of her children had died. Those details matched information Patricia had seen in adoption papers, which indicated she had two sisters and a brother, and that only the older sister was alive.

Winfrey’s mother, Vernita Lee, also disclosed that one of the deceased children was named Patricia.

“The hairs on the back of my neck stood up,” Patricia said. “Because I knew one of my siblings and I shared the same name.”

Later, she found more details that matched, including the fact that Winfrey was born in 1954, the same year as the woman Patricia knew was her surviving sibling.

Winfrey, who said DNA tests confirmed that the two are half-sisters, met with Patricia and their mother in a pre-recorded segment of the show.

Lee, who recently suffered a minor stroke, said she never told Winfrey about her half-sister, “because I thought it was a terrible thing for me to do, that I had done, gave up my daughter when she was born.”

Winfrey said documents from the girl’s birth reveal that Lee gave up the baby for adoption because she did not think she could get off welfare if she kept the child.

“I made the decision to give her up because I wasn’t able to take care of her. So when I left the hospital, I told the nurse I wasn’t going to keep the baby.”

Winfrey said she was particularly stunned by the news because of the way it came out. She said Patricia had known since 2007 that the two were related, but she never attempted to profit off her discovery or contact the press, even as she tried unsuccessfully to contact Winfrey, her mother or others in Winfrey’s family.

“She never once thought to sell the story,” Winfrey said, describing how she felt betrayed by other relatives who sought publicity or money.

Patricia said she didn’t consider revealing that she and Winfrey were half-sisters to anyone but Winfrey, explaining that she did not want to hurt Winfrey.

“Family business should be handled by family,” Patricia said. “It couldn’t be handled by anyone else. That’s not fair. It wouldn’t be fair to you.”

Winfrey recalled how her other sister revealed to the press years ago that Winfrey had had a baby when she was a teenager. The baby, Winfrey has said, died shortly after birth. And she talked about putting her sister in rehab twice for drug addiction, but that her sister ultimately died.

”It feels to me like you are Pat on her very best day,“ Winfrey told the woman. ”You are what she wanted to be without the drugs.“

Elton John lashes out at gay marriage opponents

Elton John

Has fatherhood changed Sir Elton John’s feelings about marriage for same-sex couples?

The 63-year-old singer made several blunt comments on the topic Wednesday night while performing at a private fundraiser for the ongoing legal challenge to California’s gay marriage ban.

“It seems so ridiculous I could be with my partner for 17 years and we have a son, and my partner and I can’t get married,” John said during the 90-minute set at a sprawling Beverly Hills estate in which he banged out “Your Song,” “Sixty Years On,” “Levon” and other hits he wrote before he came out as gay.

John disappointed some gay rights activists after the ban, known as Proposition 8, passed in 2008 when he said he had no desire to get married and was satisfied with the civil partnership he and his longtime partner, David Furnish, had.

“If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership. The word ‘marriage,’ I think, puts a lot of people off,” he said at the time.

But Sir Elton was singing a different tune at Wednesday’s concert, which raised $3 million for the American Foundation for Equal Rights. He praised the effort to overturn the ban and promised to do everything he could to support it, even though he is British.

“As a gay man. I think I have it all,” he said. “I have a wonderful career, a wonderful life. I have my health, I have a partner of 17 years and I have a son. And you know what, I don’t have everything, because I don’t have the respect of people like the church, and people like politicians who tell me that I am not worthy or that I am ‘less than’ because I am gay.

He then punctuated his remark with an expletive, to cheers and applause from the crowd.

Furnish and John became parents to a baby boy on Christmas Day. Their son, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, was born in California through a surrogate mother.

Jesse James says he’s engaged to marry Kat Von D

Jesse James and Kat Von D are engaged.

Kat Von D and Jesse James are engaged.

Motorcycle man Jesse James is engaged to tattoo artist Kat Von D.

“It’s true,” James told The Associated Press on Thursday.

No wedding date has been announced.

James and Von D began dating over the summer after his very public split from Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock.

The 41-year-old biker-businessman and reality TV star called Von D his best friend. Von D, whose real name is Katherine von Drachenberg, says James is the one. The 28-year-old stars on the TLC reality show “LA Ink.”

The engagement was first reported Thursday by People.com.

James told the magazine, “2010 was actually the best year of my life because I fell in love with my best friend. An amazing woman who stood behind me when the world turned their backs.”

James and Bullock were married for five years. Their marriage collapsed amid allegations of infidelity just after Bullock won an Oscar for her role in “The Blind Side” in March, 2010.

James apologized publicly to the actress and his three children from previous relationships for causing them “pain and embarrassment beyond comprehension.”

He later told ABC’s “Nightline” that he was the most hated man in the world for capping off Bullock’s career high with a deeply personal low.

The couple separated in March and their divorce was finalized in June.

James began professing his love for Von D on Twitter earlier this month, writing on Jan. 9: “I have Never Felt so Loved! I’m The Luckiest (man) in the World!”

Von D posted on the micro-blogging site Thursday that she is “overwhelmed with joy.”

George Clooney to discuss his malaria on Piers Morgan

George Clooney

George Clooney has recovered from the malaria he contracted earlier this month during a visit to Sudan.

Publicist Stan Rosenfield says it was the actor’s second bout with the disease.

Clooney is set to discuss the condition and his work in Africa on Piers Morgan’s CNN show Friday.

The actor says his own experience with the disease shows how proper medication can turn “the most lethal condition in Africa” into “a bad 10 days instead of a death sentence.”

Hugh Hefner’s ex not happy about his engagement

Holly Madison, poses with Hugh Hefner in this Sept. 2008 Associated Press photo. The two were dating but have since broken up.

Hugh Hefner’s ex-girlfriend Holly Madison tells Life & Style magazine she’s not OK with his engagement plans.

She says the 84-year-old Playboy magazine founder is “making a hasty decision” by getting engaged to 24-year-old Playmate Crystal Harris.

Madison tells Life & Style she arranged a meeting with the couple after reading on Twitter that Hefner had proposed. The meeting was filmed for her “Holly’s World” reality show on the E! cable television channel. She says it was “definitely awkward.”

Madison says she wished the couple the best but told them Harris had better not do Hefner wrong or she’ll “kick her butt.”

The 31-year-old Madison and Hefner dated for six years until their breakup in 2008 because she wanted to get married and he didn’t.

This would be the third marriage for Hefner. He divorced another Playmate last year.

Will Britney Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’ live up to her past albums?

Forget about the trash-talking battle between Britney Spears supporters and Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters about which diva will rule 2011. And, for the moment, disregard the fact that when Britney drops her latest single, “Hold It Against Me,” on Tuesday, she’ll have some stiff chart competition in the form of another new single from a pair of major dudes, Kanye West and Jay-Z’s cryptically named “H.A.M.,” the first single from their upcoming joint album, Watch the Throne.

The real question is: Will Britney be able to live up to her past glory? The club-thumping “Against Me” comes out after the former teen pop star cemented a career comeback in 2008 with her Circus album and its ensuing smash world tour. But a look at Brit’s success on the singles chart with the first single from her album is a lesson in the ups and downs of a pop star’s career arc.

While some songs were unexpected smashes out of the box (think “3″ and “Womanizer”), others either failed to chart (“My Prerogative”) or didn’t do as well as you might have expected (“I’m a Slave 4 U”).

Billboard ran down the chart debuts of the first singles from each of Spears’ albums, and they tell an interesting tale that could bode well for her latest chart attack.

5: Number of first singles from Spears’ eight albums (which includes two best-ofs) that have hit the top 10.

3: Number of Hot 100 #1 songs that have been the lead singles from that project.

2: Brit’s last two singles (“3″ and “Womanizer”) have hit #1 on the Hot 100.

5.1 million: Combined digital sales for those tracks.

43: Combined weeks on the charts for those singles.

32: Highest number of weeks on the chart for a lead single (” … Baby One More Time”).

85: Lowest chart debut for a lead single (“Gimme More”).

95: Number of spots “Womanizer” jumped in week two on the singles chart after debuting at #96.

16: “3″ became only the 16th song in Hot 100 history to debut at #1 in October 2009.

Natalie Portman’s baby bump already shows!

All eyes were on Natalie Portman this weekend as she hit the Palm Springs film fest to pick up an award.

Not only did we get to see her engagement ring bling,

but she also showed us a bit of a bump underneath that flowy dress.

During our livestream from the red carpet, Natalie told us the absolute best part about working on Black Swan:

“I really love dancing, and it was really fun to get be around all of the experts…the dancers and the coaches and the choreographer,” she told me.

The choreographer, of course, is her fiancé and babydaddy Benjamin Millepied, who joined her inside the awards ceremony and got a special thanks during Portman’s acceptance speech.

Natalie pulled double duty on Saturday night, as she also presented the International Rising Star award to her Goya’s Ghosts costar Javier Bardem.

Nat said when they were filming together in Spain, “He took me out to every gay bar in Madrid dancing until all hours of the morning.”

Javier himself admitted it in his acceptance speech, explaining: “Actually, it’s true. It was the only safe place for her!”

Palin reality show brings out the snark

n this Dec. 16, 2010 photo provided by ABC, a cameraman tapes as Robin Roberts, far right, rides a snowmobile with Sarah Pailn (in orange helmet) and her daughter Piper during an interview with Sarah Palin for ABC's Good Morning America at the Palin home in Wasilla, Alaska. (AP Photo/ABC, Matt Hage)

Tonight marks the final two hours of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” on TLC, an eight-week reality show designed to teach us more about both: Palin and Alaska.

What have we — the casual political observers but fervent reality-television watchers among us — learned?

First, the positives.

1. Alaska is a star. The show is a splendid advertisement for the state’s majestic peaks, lonely tundras, growling grizzlies and thundering herds of caribou. Alaska ho!

2. Though at turns gratuitously carnivorous, the show provides a rare, unvarnished visual account of real-life food production in the 49th state: Blood, guts and halibut-clubbing. Shocking? Yes. Real? Also yes. While most of us go to great lengths to avoid knowing how our food gets to our tables, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” is remarkably frank.

3. The kids are all right. Piper (her third daughter, named after the small aircraft), especially, is a pistol.

Through the series, we’ve followed Palin and her brood on a series of Alaskan adventures: rock climbing, bear watching, logging, fishing and shooting. Palin works hard to prove she merits her queen-grizzly status.

We’ve learned that Palin is an enthusiastic saleswoman for her state. That she is a skilled multitasker. An energetic social networker. And, if we’re to believe what we see in the final edits, she’s not a bad shot (at least when clay pigeons are the quarry — she had a bit more trouble downing a caribou).

But what we reality-show junkies have learned most about Palin — however we feel about her politics — is that she is, and appears to want to be portrayed as, a committed (and talented) snarkist.

Eye-rolling, for which she frequently scolds second daughter Willow, abounds in Palin’s own close-ups. Scowls and scoffs accompany lines like, “conservationalists write me nasty letters using their pretty little pencils on their pretty little stationery. Where do you think your pencil and your piece of paper come from, people? It comes from a tree!”

She dismisses a sea-otter expert who’s just explained why the furry creatures roll in the water with a wave of her kayak paddle and a cynical, “What a cool granola life you’ve got going here! Jeez, I’m jealous.”

And while Palin scours the family’s bus-sized RV for ingredients for campfire s’mores, she mumbles, “This is in honor of Michelle Obama, who said the other day we should not have dessert.”

Palin also portrays herself as an enthusiastic spinner — no surprise for a politician — but she is surprisingly, defiantly transparent about it. She explains her now-famous coinage of the nonword “refudiate” to husband Todd: “I pressed the `f’ instead of the `p’ and people freaked out. So now we’re saying no, no, no … the English language is a moving, breathing, evolving art. I can invent a word! So now, guess what? `Refudiate’ is now the number two search term on Google trends. Make lemonade out of lemons.”

Crafty? You bet. Trustworthy? Presidential? Hmm.

As contemporary television goes, it is all riveting. Producers at TLC know what they’re doing. This is, after all, the network that brings us “Toddlers and Tiaras,” and “Extreme Couponing.”

But even if it were the first lady’s mission to snatch cupcakes from babes, and even if Palin has a point about “conservationalists,” and even if this expert tweeter really did typo her way into the Oxford English Dictionary, her disdainful delivery overshadows whatever wholesome substance may lurk inside. Hers is timbre you’d expect from a Real Housewife commenting on a frenemy’s outfit, not a probable presidential candidate who, to put it mildly, needs to drastically broaden her appeal — and convince the great middle that she won’t roll her eyes at them, too — if she wants to win.

Centrist voters, so totally underportrayed on the television they’re glued to, and yet so totally indispensable to any candidate’s 2012 hopes, love to watch a snarky reality-show star. But vote for one?

Maybe, as some pundits say, Sarah Palin is using her show to burn a path to the White House. If it pays off, it will rank as the shrewdest political move we’ve seen in this new world of multimedia campaigning.

Maybe Palin is just using politics to enhance her media presence — and make money. After all, the president’s salary is a finite sum. Not so a multiplatform reality star’s income. Television appearances, Twitter followers, Facebook friends — all are exchangeable for hard currency, in book contracts, speaking gigs, production deals, product endorsements. (Just ask “Jersey Shore’s” Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, who parlayed perfect abs into a cool $10 million last year, according to reports, 25 times what the president makes.)

But there’s a catch: Unless she’s a candidate, Palin’s not famous. She must run for president to keep herself on television and to keep the checks coming. If she doesn’t, she’s not relevant in the lower 48. Her show won’t be renewed. Her book deals will dry up. Even Fox News will stop calling.

Palin will run. Not because she really wants the office, but because she knows that the most riveting reality show on the dial is a presidential campaign.

But winning could be dangerous for the Palin brand. It would distract her from Twitter, take her off book tour, compromise her shooting schedule. Dampen her snark.

Her formula is starting to look like this: Run, but don’t win. Talk about a Palin Paradox.

Then again, there’s no better global photo op than an inauguration. Except, perhaps, as President Richard Nixon learned, a presidential resignation.

Think she wouldn’t be able to spin even that into gold? Then you don’t know Palin.

Sarah Palin in 2012? Yes, please. Right after “Sister Wives.”

(Two new episodes of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” air tonight on TLC.)

Oklahoma City twin cops featured on ‘The Biggest Loser’ tonight

Don and Dan Evans are Oklahoma City identical twins competing in season 11 of "The Biggest Loser."

As usual, Oklahoma is represented in the upcoming season of “The Biggest Loser” which kicks off tonight (Tuesday, Jan. 4).

This season, it’s Dan and Don Evans of Oklahoma City. The two are identical twins and both work for the Oklahoma City Police Department– Dan is a police captain and Don is a police lieutenant.

In the premiere, the contestants will compete in a challenge and then get to make a game-changing decision in the order in which they finished.  Host Alison Sweeney will offer the eleven family and friend teams of two the unprecedented opportunity to choose whether to work out with trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels at the ranch – or work out at a secret location with two unknown trainers, whose identities will initially remain a mystery.  If the contestants choose the new trainers, whom they know nothing about, they’ll receive four weeks of immunity. If they choose to stay at the ranch and be trained by Bob and Jillian, they’re at risk of going home after just one week.  What ensues is a riveting ride of intense emotions, surprising turns and “can’t miss” moments as the two groups fight their weight loss battles separately with two sets of trainers equally committed to giving these players a new lease on a healthier life.

Good luck, Dan and Don!

Sheriff wants Lindsay Lohan charged with battery

Sheriff’s investigators want Lindsay Lohan charged with battery for last month’s skirmish with a Betty Ford Center rehabilitation technician.

A two-week investigation shows Lohan violated her probation during the Dec. 12 altercation and details will be sent to the Los Angeles County Probation Department this week, Riverside sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Borja said in a news release.

A Beverly Hills judge has said Lohan will be jailed if she violates probation.

Investigators expect to take their case to the Riverside County district attorney’s office this week for possible prosecution, Borja said.

Lohan returned to the Palm Desert drug dependency center after curfew and refused rehab worker Dawn Holland’s request to take a Breathalyzer test. Lohan is accused of pushing Holland, who then dialed 911, and Lohan ripped the phone away and injured Holland’s wrist.

Lohan was scheduled to get out of rehab Monday, but there were conflicting reports about whether the 24-year-old actress was released, the latest bout of uncertainty for her.

TMZ reported that Lohan was still taking sobriety classes at the center and would come back to Los Angeles on Tuesday, though E! insisted that she had departed the facility, citing Lohan’s mother, Dina, who called it “a great day.”

Lohan herself remained silent on Twitter on Monday. Messages for Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, were not immediately returned. A spokesman for Betty Ford said the facility does not comment on its patients.

Lohan’s father, Michael, was also mum on whether Lohan was actually leaving rehab Monday.

Lohan has been receiving treatment at Betty Ford, about 120 miles east of Los Angeles, since late September. A judge overseeing her probation for her 3 1/2 year-old drunk driving case required Lohan to remain at the rehab center until Monday.

Whether she’s in or out, Lohan faces an uncertain career and looming legal issues. For months, she’s been haunted by her inability, or unwillingness, to shake the drunken driving case that resulted in Lohan’s two separate trips to rehab and jail in 2010.

Despite the latest investigation, experts say Lohan has a good shot at recovery. Provided, of course, that she wants it, changes her party girl lifestyle and remains in continued therapy.

If a New Year’s Day message posted on her Twitter account is any indication, the “Mean Girls” star seems ready to do just that. “Today is the first day of the rest of my life,” it said. ‘“The future depends on what we do in the present.’ -Mahatma Gandhi… One step at a time…”
