Can Christina Aguilera keep up with Lady Gaga?

Pop singer Christina Aguilera has come out of hiding and released a new song.
The new song titled “Not Myself Tonight” was released on her Web site and some radio stations added it their rotation shortly afterward.
The song is okay, but it’s definitely not going to be a number one hit. It’s not as catchy as other songs that are on the radio.
Aguilera is a talented singer with strong vocal ability. No one doubts her talent. Aguilera has been away from the music scene for a while because she took some time off to give birth to her child and to experience motherhood.
But while she was away, some major things happened in the music industry.
A hurricane by the name of Lady Gaga swooped in to dominate the music scene during the past year-and-a-half.
Gaga also has a good voice, but she stands out because of her edginess, her wild wardrobe and her ability to push the envelope like she did with her controversial video titled “Telephone.”
If Aguilera wants to return to the top, she has to come with something stronger than “Not Myself Tonight.”
She also needs to do something to make herself stand out. Otherwise, the spotlight will continue to be on Gaga and Aguilera will fade into the background.
Aguilera’s new song is posted below. Her new album titled “Bionic” will be in stores June 8.

wtf? gaga’s voice can’t compete with christinas!! christina is named one of the gratest singers of all time!! gaga is on the same level as britney. that right there shows how stipid the person who wrote this is!
Gaga’s defintely on Britney level. Get real. And to say Christina will fall in the shadow of Gaga is unreal. This song isn’t the best I’ve ever heard, but give it a few more listens, and I’m sure you’d hear some greatness there. This is going to be a massive hit, and the remix potential is immense.

Gaga’s voice definitely cannot compete with Christina’s (in terms of power and control), but it is certainly better than Britney’s. Watch any of her live performances (especially of Speechless and Brown Eyes).

christina is 1 person who would never fade away because of that voice,gaga is not original(look and sound) and u need to ask yourself how long would that ripped off tokyo inspired look of hers would last together with the sound.Xtina mayb doing a similar sound but guess what her voice is so versatile that she can do any genre and that my friend is why she would stay around cause she can change it up anytime with sheer ease,lets see how gaga`s next album will be,i`m sure its gonna be the same thing cause she hasn`t shown an ounce of versatility since her debut and beside xtina is a multi winning grammy artist with tremendous respect from the greats as for gaga well i wish i can say the same,even when xtina made her 1st debut she started gaining respect (e.g, whitney houston aka the voice herself)
Not myself tonight is amazing.. you have to listen to it a few times to get into it and eventually get addicted, ive now listened to it around 200 times by accident…. remember they said the same about lady gaga’s music and after a good listen people started to like her.. remeber gagas album was a flop in the begining for months till christina put gaga in the spot light with a small comment.
lady gaga should bow down to christina aguilera since it was her who started lady gaga’s very massive career…
p.s i love lady gaga but shes old news now ive been waiting for new music for months and thank god christina is back with something totally different, something that gaga would not thought of.. it has an electro fusion with a vibe from her last album back to basics and her very strong vocals i think it can be a no:1 in many countrys, possibly worldwide..

Huh? what does this mean? Christina has nothing to proof, she’s been in the industry for quite a long, and Notmyself is a club song, certainly catchy, why do people keep trying to compare Lady GaGa and Christina?
This is a silly article written by a Gaga stan. Christina has been around for over a decade and has the vocal abilities to withstand the test of time. And I’m a little sick of the idea that the industry isn’t big enough for more than one woman at a time. And the song is amazing.

The video for the song hasn’t even been released yet, yet you’re already saying she needs to work harder to compete with Lady Gaga? Lady Gaga has some catchy songs, but she will admit herself that half of what she does is visual theatrics — the costumes and videos that you mentioned.
So you’re comparing a song that Christina has “sneak peeked” (it has NOT been released to radio yet) — to Gaga, whose latest song had a 10-minute mini-movie as its video complete with like 20 costume changes and Beyonce and Tyrese thrown in for good measure. Seriously?
Aside from that being an unfair comparison (here, taste my cookie dough and compare it to these cookies in the velvet box I bought from this bakery down the street)… why must you compare Christina to Lady Gaga? Can you not critique the song on its own merits?
I know several 5-year-olds who can do the “this-is-better-than-that” game. Now give me some actual insight into the song. What about the production value? Her vocals? Don’t just compare her to Gaga. That’s the 2010 version of comparing her to Britney.

Christina’s song has been released to radio already. I’ve heard it several times on the radio myself.
Gaga is amazing hands down. CA is old and sure she has a voice but she always tries to mold herself to the new trend. Unlike Whitney Houstan, Cleine Dion, and other amazing vocalists, whom Christina does not fall into league with, is that they are leaders, Christina is a follower.

i don’t know why there is ALWAYS viscous competition within the music industry. honestly, you cannot compare Lady Gaga to Britney, that is ridiculous! Gaga has so much more talent and vocals than her, not trying to even compare the two bcz you cant. Xtina has a BEAUTIFUL voice, hands down, but from a creative standpoint,Gaga beats everyone. And this is not coming from a biased opinion towards Lady G, its just true facts. Lady Gaga has managed to make history more than once in less than a year, making her a truly successful artist, and an artist that this generation has to look up to for inspiration. A lot of you will disagree but its true, she sends the message of always being yourself, and following your dreams no matter what comes your way. Lady Gaga is a role model, put aside whats on the outside and look at the message she is sending. I Agree with ^Alex. Lady Gaga is also a leader, she has managed to bring back dance music into the mainstream, she has managed to work with so many different sounds, she’s truly amazing

methinks some do protest to much….perhaps some worried Aguilera fans–and rightfully so I would say.
Aguilera is the past—Gaga is the present and the future..and IMO there is really not much of a contest in the matter.
The only real question that remains to be answered is how just how low will Aguilera sink in trying to steal Gaga’s sound,and style in her attempt to stay relevant.

the song is good. but its not great. she could come harder but i don’t think she has that fire under her ass like she did when she made stripped. she definately doesn’t have the same fire that’s under gaga’s ass either. the issue is that she has been away for so long that her and her people probably don’t realize all that she needs to do to be a huge success. she will be successful and most likely the second single will be undeniable but for now she is just going to take it slow and ease her way back in the spotlight. she’ll be just fine.

Gaga broke Xtina’s record and has already made history the way the Britany and Michael did when they first came out. Xtina has always been in the background, successful, but never groundbreaking and completely a follower I would agree. Her vocals are some of the best in the biz, but that does not a record breaker make. Xtina spent her career battling Brit and now Gaga has changed things so much in the the music industry she is going to have to tap into her own imagination to even attempt surpassing Gaga if she wants to leave any kind of impression on the world beyond what she has alread done, in fact Gaga already has more fame that Xtina ever had. I have always rooted for Xtina and other than her last album, she has always disappointed me. Gaga has come in like a whirlwind and even made us forget Brit unless she appears in the tabloids halling her kids around eating fast food. Modanna is a fan and went to her concert, Michael wanted to work with her, Elton loves her, Janet is impressed with her, even Beyonce is smart enough to jump on the Gaga train. Gaga has something in her songs that is new and fresh and you cannot place it. Xtina, for bionic had to work with how many different artists to get her album done? Gaga wrote everything she sings and this new song is just a boring bad dance song that I have heard a million times with lyrics that make my brain want to melt. Awful. I am really sad. I hope the rest of her album proves me wrong, but she will never surpass Gaga, unless she robs her sound and style and even then the media and fans would tear her apart. Sad but true. Anyone who disagrees is just fooling themself.

Christina is a Legend, GaGa is a rookie. Every teen queen from the late 90′s had their 15 minutes & only Britney & Christina have surpassed with a 10+ year career. GaGa is having her 15 minutes & eventually she’ll lose steam. The one thing I love though is how Christina doesn’t care, the woman only cares about her music, she knows she could wipe the floor with any other singer today. Shes hands down got the best voice but for her it’s all about creating music she thinks represents her to the fullest as an artist.

Lady Gaga is amazing but Christina Aguilera is a different breed than Lady Gaga. Comparing Gaga to Christina is like comparing Madonna to Etta James. I think you’ll be eating your words on Aguilera because there is always more room for Aguilera in the music industry and spotlight! I love my Gaga, but I love my Christina too!
Christina Aguilera has spent her whole career asking the public to take her music seriously. Gaga has spent her short career asking the public to not take her too seriously. The irony being that Gaga’s artistry is being taken seriously, while Christina Aguilera has a good voice, but has never had anything worthwhile to say with it.
False Kool Aid. Christina has spoken about domestic violence, female empowerment, being yourself, and never backing down from those who would have you conform to their norms. Obviously you missed the little piece of history that was the smash hit “Beautiful.” And have never heard her album Stripped-the whole reason the album was so critically acclaimed and successful was that it wasn’t just dance-pop jams like Gaga-it was ballads, songs with gospel, latin, and rock flairs, and she followed it up with a throw back effort which everyone thought would flop as a double disk-yet was a commercial and critical success. Christina’s fans love her not for theatrics-which is fine-but for the messages she gives through her music.
It’s amazing that people keep comparing Gaga to Britney and Christina. I do agree that Christina is a follower. I also agree that Lady Gaga has made some news headlines. But to say that she’s an inspiration to many is an overstatement. First of all, nobody dresses up like her. She has no lyrical talent at all when. Listen to her songs and try to make sense of it. Her song Alejandro is so similar to La Isla Bonita. There is one thing that she’s good at. She takes someone else’s work and adds edginess to it. That is not original; it’s basically just updating. There is nothing artistic nor special about her last music video. Showing your vagina is not artistic. Kissing a girl when you are not a lesbian is not great either, or even pretending to be one. Britney has been dissed so many times, and yet she will have the last laugh. Her vocal is not the greatest, but it’s her footsteps that Lady Gaga and Christina want to follow. Don’t get me wrong. I like some of Lady Gaga’s songs, but there is a thing called too much.

Gaga has admitted that she is what she is now because people started relating her with the style Aguilera was making after her VMA Keeps gettin better performance. Although lg is very intelligent and has made everything to catch anyones attention this only last 10 or 12 months, she just can’t be thought as a competition or even as a little similar to Britney and Christina. I agree with Maria’s posts. Christina has a very awsome voice, but to be honest, I dislike her over singing (sadly, a practice that is turning to be very common in many artists with big voices). She knows she has a voice and loves to display it but that over singing ruins most of her songs and live performances. Lady GaGa has a nice voice (Maybe not as powerful as Christina’s) but she knows how to match her voice in her songs without making it sound too loud. Xtina’s “OOoooOOOOOooh (Insert here high pitch note)” turns to be annoying to the listeners and boring.
Gaga writes all her music and designs her clothing, she does everything herself. Britney, sadly, was a prefabricated singer that got out of mickey mouse club. She doesn’t have voice, her vocal range is pretty short and depends a lot on her chorists and her body (when she used to be fit), I heard most of her songs and none of them are in my iPod, I dont like her “moaning” type voice.
Xtina’s Back to Basics was good, probably her best album, and this new song Bionic is still not in my list of favorites while Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance made me go buy her album and purchase that song from iTunes to play it on my iPod right away. Lady GaGa is only 24 and she has made a lot of success than any other artist and has already a lot of fame. I like how GaGa doesn’t respond to people like Xtina and MIA who trash talk her like if they were some random school girls that are jealous of the popular girl. I lost respect for Xtina in the moment she started to attack GaGa, I thought she was a mature person.
