Why Jay-Z didn’t participate in “We Are The World” remake

After I saw the video premiere of the “We Are The World” remake last week,  I wondered to myself why some of the big musicians were missing, such as rapper Jay-Z.

Proceeds from the songs will benefit the victims of the Haiti earthquake.

According to MTV, Jay-Z explains why he chose not to participate in the “We Are The World” remake.

”I know everybody is gonna take this wrong. ‘We Are the World,’ I love it, and I understand the point and think it’s great. But I think ‘We Are the World’ is like  ‘Thriller’ to me. I don’t ever wanna see it touched. I’m a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that’s going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts through text to Haiti. So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but ‘We are the World’ is untouchable like ‘Thriller’ is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it’s gonna be untouchable.”

Other big musicians who were not part of the song included Beyonce, Chris Daughtry, Taylor Swift and Whitney Houston, among others.

I wonder if their reasons were similar to Jay-Z’s or if they weren’t invited altogether.

Daughtry was touring in Europe at the time.

Daughtry was on a tour in Europe with Nickleback.

I am sure that Whitney was invited. But she is touring. I am not sure about the others. I agree with Jay-Z. How are you going to have Justin Bieber start off the song??? Who is Justin Bieber? I know Wyclef is Haitan – but his screeching was horrible. Loved Barbra Streisand. Jennifer Hudson stole the show. Pink was great. Celine was good – but you cannot beat the emotion that Cyndi Lauper brought to this part-so soulful, so spontaneus. Love the reason for the re-make. But the producers and songwriters should have produced an original. The original “We Are The World” is too special. Oh, and the Michael and Janet part, beautiful. Kinda liked the rap break down.

In a way he is rite, but after the tradgy that haiti went through i personally think everyone should of had a part
just because of the cause

I agree it would be like some one other than Bing Crosby singing white Christmas no one else does it the same and there are other ways to raise money.

I agree that some things just cannot be made better. It is like Bing Crosby will always be the best at White Christmas no one else ever came close to it. So I can see the reason for not doing it. Do something new.

I completely agree with his reasons some things cannot be improved on.
