When the song “We Are The World” was released in 1985 as a fundraising single, it raised $63 million for humanitarian aid in Africa.
About 50 musicians were featured on the song. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. Quincey Jones and Michael Omartian served as co-producers.
Now, producers remade the original version with new performers, and proceeds will benefit victims of the Haiti earthquake.

I have my partner in the new we are the world. What an honor. Each of us has a responsibility to the world. What power we all have in our hands and yet we either choose to ignore it or fear the power of it. Wake-up people because you have all be hypnotized by the propaganda thru every medium the world has to offer. Take back your spirit, not thru religion but by the power of God who is in you if you only seek.

I think the first version was so powerful with some great talent. I am still undecided if I needed to hear a remake. I think they should have found a fresh song to do.

I am so, so, so excited for this remake! We are singing “We Are the World” for our choir in school. The original version is absolutely amazing, but it was before my time and I’m glad that my generation can experience such a wonderful cause. It’s a great tribute to Michael Jackson as well, and I’ve seen so many people hating on this remake before it’s even come out. People should be happy that Michael Jackson’s legend lives on!
