227 actress dead at age 63

Alaina Reed-Amini

Actress Alaina Reed-Amini died Dec. 17 at the age of 63 after a battle with breast cancer.

Reed-Amini starred in the sitcom “227,” alongside Jackee Harry, Marla Gibbs, Hal Williams, Regina King and Oklahoma native Countess Vaughn.

She also made guest appearances on various shows, including “ER,” “Ally McBeal,” “Caroline in the City,” and “The Drew Carey Show.”

The sitcom aired from 1985 to 1990.  She wasn’t as famous as Brittany Murphy was, so Reed-Amini’s death probably won’t receive a lot of attention.

I used to watch “227″ as a child, and I thought she did a great job portraying the role of Rose Holloway on the show, so I’m paying my respects here.

Country singer Carrie Underwood is expected to walk down the aisle.  The “American Idol” winner is engaged to hockey player Mike Fisher.

The Associated Press story is posted below via NewsOK.

Carrie Underwood is engaged to Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher, her publicist said Monday.  No wedding date has been set for the couple, who have been dating for about a year.

“The couple couldn’t be happier,” said publicist Jessie Schmidt.

Fisher, 29, recorded his 300th career point for the Senators in their 4-1 win over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. Fisher had an assist on Anton Volchenkov’s goal in the first period.

Asked by The Associated Press last month what Underwood’s family thought of Fisher, the 26-year-old singer said they were supportive.

“They love me and I would hope my parents would think we raised a good, smart girl, so she’s going to do the right thing no matter what it is,” she said.

Days before the CMA Awards in early November, Underwood did not know whether she would be spending the holidays with Fisher.

“Christmas, I don’t know. We haven’t really thought that far ahead. We kind of take it one week at a time,” she said then.

Underwood has kept her relationship largely under wraps, but she gave Fisher a very public shout-out in the liner notes of her current album, “Play On,” that was released Nov. 3. She wrote, “Thank you (No.) 12 (referring to his jersey number.) You are the most amazing addition to my life! You are such a wonderful person and have had such an amazing hand in the building of this album and in the growth of me as a person. I love you so much! You make my life better in every way!”

Day 26 has downsized from a quintet to quartet.  Group member Qwanell “Que” Mosley has left the R&B group.

During an interview with WGCI 107.5 FM radio station in Chicago, group member Willie Taylor placed the blame on Mosley.

The interview is posted in the video clip below.

Day 26 originally consisted of Brian Andrews, Robert Curry, Willie Taylor, Qwanell Mosley and Michael McCluney.

Diddy signed Day 26 to Bad Boy Records in 2007 after he selected them to form a group on his MTV reality show titled “Making the Band 4.”

During “Making the Band 4″ Mosley was always at odds with his bandmates, so it’s no surprise that he left the group.

Kevin Jonas, of the Jonas Brothers, married Danielle Deleasa on Saturday (Dec. 19) in Long Island, New York.

Dean Sheremet filed for divorce from country singer LeAnn Rimes.  The singer released a public statement that said “this decision was amicable and we remain committed and caring friends with great admiration for one another.”  I think that statement is phony because there is no way they can remain friends.  Rimes was caught cheating with actor Eddie Cibrian.  That’s probably why Sheremet is divorcing her.

Ivana Trump filed for divorce from husand Rossano Rubicondi.  This will be her fourth marriage to end in divorce.  Ivana was previously married to Donald Trump, George Syrovatka and Riccardo Mazzucchelli.

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren are still married. Despite speculation that she is leaving Woods, no divorce papers have yet been filed.

SYTYCD choreographer Shane Sparks accused of child molestation

MySpace

MySpace

MTV and Fox network executives should probably start looking for another judge and choreographer.

Choreographer Shane Sparks was arrested and charged with multiple felony counts of child molestation.  Sparks was arrested and released on $590,000 bail.

Sparks is a judge alongside  rapper Lil Mama and N’Sync singer J.C. Chasez on the MTV dance competition show “America’s Best Dance Crew.”  He is also a choreographer on “So You Think You Can Dance.”

According to a court affidavit obtained by TMZ, a girl is accusing Sparks of molesting her in 1994 and 1995 when she was under the age of 14.  Sparks was in his mid-20s when the alleged incidents occurred.

Sparks’ attorney told reporters his client is innocent of all charges.  He said the accusations are false, and they are part of an extortion attempt.

I’m not sure whether he’s guilty or innocent. Regardless, his career is pretty much over.  Any child molestation allegation is crippling to anyone’s livelihood regardless of the outcome in court.

Sparks has choreographed dance routines for Lindsay Lohan, Aaliyah and Monica, among others.  He also choreographed the dances for the film “You Got Served.”

The two people who played a major role in creating the Beyonce Knowles empire have called it quits.

Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles filed for divorce from husband Matthew Knowles.  The divorce papers were filed in November, but members of the media didn’t find out about it until Friday.  (Dec. 18).

A possible reason why it went unnoticed is because Tina’s name on the divorce papers is listed under her real name Celestine B. Knowles.  The break up was first reported by Media Take Out.

It’s unknown how the divorce will impact Beyonce’s career.  Together, Matthew and Tina helped steer Beyonce’s into stardom.  Matthew has served as Beyonce’s manager throughout her career.  He helped turn Beyonce into a superstar with the R&B group Destiny’s Child and later as a solo artist and an actress.

Tina was Beyonce’s clothing designer and stylist.  She created most of Beyonce’s wardrobe.  As a result, Beyonce is one of the most photographed and stylish women on the planet.

Both Matthew and Tina have made numerous television and red carpet appearances during the past decade.

Tina released a public statement that said “the decision to end our marriage is an amicable one. We remain friends, parents, and business partners.  If anyone is expecting an ugly messy fight, they will be sadly disappointed. We ask for your respect of our privacy as we handle this matter.”

NFL player Chris Henry died after falling off truck

NFL player Chris Henry died Thursday morning after he fell out off a pickup truck during an dispute with his fiancee.  The Associated Press story is posted below via NewsOK.

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry has died, one day after falling out of the back of a pickup truck in what authorities described as a domestic dispute with his fiancee.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Henry died at 6:36 a.m. Thursday. Henry was 26.

“It is with great sadness to learn Chris has passed away,” Henry’s agent, Andy Simms said in a statement. “For those who knew Chris, he was nothing like his public perception. A loving and caring individual, he was thankful for what he had in life, and proud of what he had overcome.”

Henry was rushed to the hospital Wednesday after being found on a residential road. Police said the dispute began at a home about a half-mile away, and Henry jumped into the bed of the pickup truck as his fiancee was driving away from the residence.

Police said at some point when she was driving, Henry “came out of the back of the vehicle.” They wouldn’t identify the woman, and no charges were immediately filed.

Police spokeswoman Rosalyn Harrington said homicide detectives have been assigned to the case but had no further information. Police have not released the 911 tapes, and Harrington wouldn’t say if the woman was present at the scene when police arrived.

Authorities have not announced the cause of death. Mecklenburg County medical examiner investigator Carol Cormier said they were expecting to receive the body later Thursday.

Henry is engaged to Loleini Tonga, and the couple has been raising three children. Tonga’s MySpace page identifies herself as “Mrs. C. Henry” and has a picture of her next to a person who appears to be Henry. She also has a post from Tuesday talking about buying wedding rings. A neighbor said Wednesday that the Tonga family owns the home where police say the incident began. Charlotte is home to his fiancee’s parents.

“We ask that you keep Chris’ family — especially the young children he leaves behind — in your prayers,” Simms said. “It is tragic when a life is taken so young. He was a man just realizing his potential, not just in football, but in life”

Henry was away from the team after breaking his left forearm during a win over Baltimore on Nov. 8. He had surgery and was placed on season-ending injured reserve following the game.

Throughout his career, his temper and poor decisions got him in trouble.

He was ejected from a game and suspended for another at West Virginia, where former coach Rich Rodriguez told Henry that he was an embarrassment to himself and the program. His reputation was already costing him — the Bengals were the only NFL team to bring him in for a pre-draft visit in 2005.

They found that his demeanor didn’t match his reputation. Henry was shy and spoke in a quiet voice. They warned him that he had to stay in control if he was going to stay in the NFL. Then, they picked him in the third round.

In a sense, it was already a second chance.

“I’m worth the chance,” Henry said, when he showed up the following weekend for a rookie minicamp. “I’m just happy they took me.”

Henry become a vital part of the offense as a rookie, helping the Bengals reach the playoffs in 2005 with his ability to run past defenders to grab long passes. In the final month of the season, he also showed his other side, getting arrested for marijuana possession. After a playoff loss to Pittsburgh, he was arrested on a gun charge in Florida.

Henry and former Tennessee cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones became the league’s two most trouble-bound players. Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended both in 2007 — Jones for a full season, Henry for half of it — as part of a toughening of the league’s conduct policy.

When Henry was arrested for a fifth time following that season on an assault charge, the Bengals decided they’d had enough. At his arraignment on April 3, 2008, Municipal Court Judge Bernie Bouchard called Henry “a one-man crime wave.” He was released by the Bengals the same day.

It was a jolt to Henry, who had dreamed of an NFL career since high school, when he got the NFL logo tattooed on the back of his right hand. No team showed an interest in bringing him back. His career seemed finished.

Then, Bengals owner Mike Brown — who refers to himself as “a redeemer” — changed his mind and gave him another chance.

“If you only knew him by hearsay, you’d think he’s some kind of ogre,” Brown said, during the Bengals’ appearance on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series this summer. “It’s not true. He’s a good person. When you see him up close, you’ll find that you’ll like him. He’ll be a soft-spoken, pleasant person.”

This time, Henry seemed determined to stay out of trouble. After only 19 catches and two touchdowns in 12 games in the 2008 season, he set about making himself a topflight receiver again. He got into top shape and worked out with teammates in the offseason, showing more resolve than at any point in his career.

Henry also changed his personal life, spending more time with his fiancee and the three children they are raising. Teammates noticed a pronounced change in his demeanor.

“He’s a great kid with a great heart,” quarterback Carson Palmer said as training camp started. “He’s changed his life around. He ran into some trouble, made some bad decisions, and realized that. He’s sorry for them, apologized for them, and has done everything he can to make himself a better person. I’m just proud of him.”

Before the 2009 season, Henry got a new tattoo that matched his new outlook. Below his left ear, in flowing one-inch script, was the world “Blessed.”

“I kind of felt like I dug myself out of the hole and started doing the right things,” Henry said in an interview with The Associated Press as training camp opened. “People say, ‘How you feeling now Chris? You doing all right?’ I just tell them I’m blessed. That’s why I got it.”

He caught a touchdown pass in each of Cincinnati’s four preseason games. A thigh injury slowed him early in the season, and he had 12 catches for 236 yards — his 19.7-yard average per catch leads the team — when he broke his left arm during a win over Baltimore on Nov. 22, ending his season.

When he showed up in the locker room for the first time since surgery to fix the fracture, Henry sounded confident he could get through the latest setback.

“It just comes with time, you know?” he said. “I learned to handle all situations, so I’ll be all right.”

Kid Cudi dropped from Lady Gaga tour

Hip hop newcomer Kid Cudi has been kicked off Lady Gaga’s tour.

He will be replaced by singer Jason Derulo.  Kid Cudi released a statement saying scheduling conflicts will prevent him from being on the tour.

However, I’m going to assume it probably has something to do with a certain video clip that has been circulating around YouTube.

The clip shows Kid Cudi punching a fan in Vancouver during one of his concerts A man in the audience threw his wallet on stage, and Kid Cudi went into the audience and hit him.

Lady Gaga probably doesn’t want any of that drama on her tour.

YUKON – Country music star Garth Brooks is suing his hometown hospital in a legal battle that a spokeswoman says has broken his heart.

The singer wants Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital in Yukon to return his $500,000 donation because the hospital failed to name a building after his mother. His mother, Colleen, died of cancer in 1999.

The lawsuit is filed in Rogers County District Court.

When Brooks donated the money anonymously four years ago, he stipulated that a hospital building be named after his mother.

“Mr. Brooks has nothing to add to the petition. This deals with his mother, the home town and the people he grew up with and is deeply personal,” said his spokeswoman Nancy Seltzer, in an e-mail to The Oklahoman.

The building was never built, though the hospital campus has undergone $27 million in renovations.

“While we can’t comment on pending litigations, we are optimistic this will come to a swift and amicable resolution,” said Brooke Cayot, Integris spokeswoman.

Yukon city council member John Tipps thinks the lawsuit goes too far.

“Yukon has done a lot to help promote Garth Brooks over the years, and this is what he does to return the favor, sue our hospital over a misunderstanding,” Tipps told The Yukon Review.

“Maybe Yukon should consider removing his name from the street signs and the water tower. This is very unfortunate for the hospital, City of Yukon and its citizens.”
