2009 Celebrity Year End Review

Michael Jackson

In the celebrity world, 2009 has definitely been a roller coaster year.  We saw how drug use can take the life of the most talented performer in history, we saw a popular rapper throw a tempter tantrum at an awards show, we saw photos of  the battered face of an R&B songstress who was the victim of domestic violence and we heard about the lurid details of a golfer’s affairs.

–The death of Michael Jackson was, by far, the most shocking celebrity story of 2009.  Although we could see Jackson’s life was spiraling out of control, no one could have predicted the king of pop would be confined to a casket at age 50.

Jackson entertained the world for 40 years.  He showed us how to moonwalk, he gave us dance moves to perform in the clubs, he taught us how to do the Thriller dance, he broke down barriers, he showed us how it was cool to wear one glove instead of two, and  he changed the music industry forever.

Jackson (not Elvis) was truly the greatest performer who ever lived.  Unfortunately, he couldn’t overcome his addiction to prescription drugs (like Elvis), and his life was cut short.

Kanye West has  been known to throw temper tantrums at award shows.  That’s a reputation he’s earned during the past five years.

But in September, he messed with the wrong person.  He chose to pick on sweet and innocent Taylor Swift.  West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards and told the audience Beyonce deserved to win that award.

The audience at Radio City Music Hall booed the rapper, and viewers at home shunned him.  West became a punching bag  for the next several weeks while fans, friends, enemies and celebrities took verbal shots at him in retaliation for his disrespectful behavior toward Swift.

Even President Barack Obama called West a “jackass” during an off-the-record conversation with an CNBC reporter.

(Even though our economy was in trouble, it’s good to know the president had time to discuss Kanye West right?)

West has kept a low profile since the incident, and he canceled his joint tour with pop singer Lady Gaga because of the backlash.

Meanwhile, Swift was shown sympathy from most people in the country.  Her album sales continued to soar as she became known as “Kanye’s victim.”  If anything, Swift’s career was boosted by the incident.  West apologized to Swift, and she accepted the apology.  Case closed.

Some people said that incident was blown out of proportion and felt like people overreacted.  Maybe it was blown out of proportion because it was the lead story on every newscast.   Hopefully, we won’t hear this story again in 2010.

–The Tiger Woods saga was the biggest sex scandal of 2009. The scandal is so big, it will continue into 2010.  It all began when Woods wrecked his vehicle into a tree and fire hydrant in his neighborhood.

Many people speculated it was the result of an argument between Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren.  Within a week, one by one, several women came forward claiming they had an affair with the professional golfer.  Woods posted a statement on his Web site that said he engaged in infidelity.

Woods has become the topic of discussion at water coolers around the country.  There is a stereotype that all athletes cheat on their wives.  So why does Woods’ affairs get so much attention? It’s because Woods has a nice-boy image, and the public bought into his nice-boy reputation.  So, when he makes a mistake, people are more harsh toward him.

If it were Dennis Rodman, Andre Agassi or John McEnroe, no one would care because they don’t have a reputation for having a clean-cut image.

Other top stories from 2009 include:

–The  incident where Chris Brown assaulted R&B singer Rihanna.  Brown received community service and Rihanna is persevering with her music career.

–The “Jon and Kate Plus 8″ saga filled numerous news cycles throughout the year.  There’s so much drama going on in that family, there’s not even enough room here to talk about it.

It is sad that the media feeds on personal lives of individuals..Michael Jackson was truly a lost..as well as his talents and the music that he gave to the world will always live on.. but the other gossip and issues with the celebs should not be exploited as the worlds gossip..these are people just as you and me..I sure there are other issues that should be of concern..but again look at the world we live in..it is not the world its self…but the people in it..when will we focus on what is more important..the war going on or who slept with who?

Well…Michael Jackson’s death was a shock, I still love the Man In The Mirror…I laughed my butt off about Taylor Swifts Thing with Kanya…I dont like either one of them…I still find Santa better than Tiger Woods cause Santa stopped with Three Hoes…I love Christ Breown and his Music…I never liked Rihanna, it was bad but the girl started it.
Yours With Love,
Erica
