Notice that the donation was ANONYMOUS? Garth wanted nothing to do with Yukon and we want nothing to do with him. Those signs are faded because no one here wants anything to do with someone who denies where they are from. Yukon never tried to profit from his fame, and we were never "put on the map" because of it. The hospital acted like they did during the law suit because they didn't think it would go through because of the ridiculous claims. There is nothing wrong with wanting to honor his mama but there are better ways to go about it than to denounce his hometown who has done nothing but be indifferent to him.

That's not to say there aren't Garth Brooks fans here, but if you're born and raised in Yukon, you know that there isn't a special place in our hearts for him.

I live in Yukon.. I used to be proud to say that.. I agree with the "music teacher" why in the world does Yukon think they have anything to do with Garth's success? Garth put Yukon on the map. Yukon didn't put Garth where he is today. Garth chose not to return to Yukon after retirement for a reason. This town, from their crooked police department and their embarrassing actions, to their unethical city officials who think they are above having to tell the truth or abide by any laws.. It's the "good ole boy" system here in Yukon.. Stick to your guns Garth!

I agree with all who say that the donation was given along with an agreement that the hospital would name one of their buildings after his mother. Clearly they did not honor their word in which case he has every right to sue. Those who say otherwise are merely ignorant, bitter folks who have some "he's rich, he can afford it" axe to grind. Garth is a good and decent man and he does a great deal of good for a lot of people, not just his hometown. To suggest that he has no right to expect the hospital and city to keep it's word to him simply because he's a celebrity is ridiculous. The only thing more ridiculous however, is for anyone to suggest that Yukon is in any way responsible for Garth's success. I hate to break it to you, Yukon, but the rest of us were buying his music and getting behind him long before you all decided to claim him as one of your "favorite sons". You had nothing whatsoever to do with his meteoric rise to fame. His fans love and support him on his own merits and we don't really care at all what city he grew up in. However, all of us who have spent revenue while visiting your city for Garth-related activities would be more than happy to take our spending dollars to Tulsa, Stillwater, or Nashville from now on if you no longer want to be associated with him. He's the best thing that ever happened to your otherwise non-noticeable city. So go ahead and take the street signs down and remove his name from the water tower. Who gives a flip? Such action will only further prove that which we have all always known in the first place which is that Yukon only "honored" Garth because they knew they could make money, etc. off of his name. You don't care at all about him as a human being. He's just a celebrity gravy train to all of you who are arguing in defense of the greedy hospital. There isn't a single one of you who wouldn't take the exact same legal action he is taking if you were in his shoes. If it were your money and your beloved mother's name that never went up on the building, you'd sue so fast it would make everyone's head spin. You're all hypocrites who mistakenly believe that because Garth is famous and wealthy, he owes you whatever you ask of him, without benefit of expecting anything in return. The man loves his mom. He wants to honor her memory. The end. He isn't the bad guy here. But the crooks who took his money and are now attempting to smear him are extremely unethical human beings all of whom should lose their jobs. I hope he gets his money back and that he then takes legal action against those of you who are slandering his character.

No good deed goes unpunished because this world is frighteningly full of people like John Tipps who put political agendas above doing that which is honest and right. I hope Yukon votes your hateful, arrogant tail out of office in the next election, Mr. Tipps. But if not, then you and your petty constituents deserve one another.

I don't think that he needed his town to promote him, he wsa a great entertainer and if he gave the money with the stipulation that a bulding be named after his mother then that is what they should have done or they should not have taken the money, if they did 12 million in renovations then surely her name could have been put on a building since he gave half a million to them. I hope he wins......

I don't know about the water tower, but the "street signs" are all faded out. I went to the hospital back in June and also didn't notice any buildings being built. The only thing going on that I could see was the hospital being renovated, or given a face lift.

I don't think he's special, but at the same time, if a donator makes a condition, and the receiver agrees to it, then the receiver ought to hold up their end of the bargain.
