More diversity in late-night comedy

The television late-night comedy talk show lineup has been more diverse this fall.  There have been minority hosts popping up all over the late-night talk show scene.

“The Mo’Nique Show” premiered this fall on the BET network and “The Wendy Williams Show” premiered on the Fox and BET networks.

Both shows air Mondays through Fridays.  Williams made her mark as a longtime controversial radio host.  She’s often referred to as the female version of Howard Stern.

Mo’Nique began her career as a stand-up comedian.  She eventually became an actress and has a major role in the upcoming film “Precious,” which was produced by Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey.

Mo’Nique’s late-night show caters to a hip hop audience, while Williams’ show has a broader appeal because her celebrity guests are from all walks of life.

Comedian Wanda Sykes’ new late-night talk show will premiere Nov. 7 on the Fox network, and George Lopez’s show “Lopez Tonight” will debut Nov. 9 on TBS.

This is the most diversity I’ve seen in late night comedy.  Kudos to those networks for making an effort. However, I’m still waiting on NBC, ABC and CBS to diversify their late-night schedule.

Whether those shows listed above will see long term success is unknown.  The last minority to have a successful late-night talk show was Arsenio Hall.  His show ran from 1989 to 1994.

Charlize Theron kisses woman for $140,000

Actress Charlize Theron isn’t typically a lesbian, but she turned into one for 20 seconds.

Theron participated in an auction where she sold her lips to the highest bidder.  A woman bid $140,000 to kiss the actress.

The woman kissed Theron for a whopping 20 seconds.  A video clip  is posted below.

By the way, the $140,000 will go to OneXOne, an organization that strives to provide food and water to children around the world.

Kanye West sentenced to community service

A Los Angeles judge Friday sentenced Kanye West and his manager to community service in connection with an altercation involving a photographer.

According to the Associated Press, the attorney told the court West would volunteer at the American Red Cross.  In return, all misdemeanor charges will be dismissed against West.

The altercation stems from an incident that occurred at a Los Angeles airport Sept. 2008.

West and his manager Don Crawley were caught on tape taking a camera from a photographer and crashing it on the floor.

In case you didn’t see the video clip of the incident when I posted it last year, its posted below.

Rapper Lil Wayne will soon be spitting outlyrics in a jail cell.

Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to a weapon possession charge Thursday.  His sentencing hearing will be in February, and he’s expected to serve one-year in jail, according to the Associated Press.

The charge stems from an incident where police found a gun on his tour bus in 2007.

Lil Wayne is smart businessman, and I’m sure he can turn this episode into something profitable.

When Lil Kim went to jail, she turned her ordeal into a reality show.  That’s something Lil Wayne should consider.

Big Brother winner accused of drug dealing

Adam JasinskiMost people who win a huge sum of money during a contest will spend it on a new car, a house, a vacation or to start their own business etc.

Adam Jasinski, the 2008 winner of the reality show “Big Brother” selected the fourth option.  He chose to invest his $500,000 prize money by creating his own business.

However, the business Jasinski created was illegal.

Jasinksi admitted using his $500,000 prize money to purchase 2,000 prescription pills to resell them for a profit, according to the Associated Press.

Jasinski was arrested Saturday in connection with the accusations.

Most people try to leave the drug-dealing profession whenever they become wealthy.

Jasinski is the first person I’ve heard of who receives $500,000, and chooses to become a drug dealer.

Rock legends Def Leppard have canceled the last leg of the North American north due to personal reasons.

The band canceled 23 concerts in the Canada and the U.S.

A statement was issued on their Web site that said “Due to unforeseen personal matters, the third leg of Def Leppard’s North American Tour, set to begin on October 22nd, has been cancelled. We know how truly blessed we are to have such committed fans,” said the band in a statement. “That’s why we’ve agonized over this decision. Even if just a single concert, we don’t take cancelling shows lightly, but unfortunately life’s commitments need to be the priority.

Ticket refunds are available at the point of purchase, according the band’s Web site.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a law in memory of rapper Kanye West’s mother.

The Donda West Law requires cosmetic surgery patients to undergo a physical examination before the surgery.

Donda West died in 2007 after a cosmetic procedure.  She had coronary artery disease, but it was undiscovered because she didn’t undergo a physical exam before the surgery.

While she was alive, Kanye had a close relationship with his mother.  She accompanied him to several celebrity events, and she was always by his side on the red carpet.

Shortly after her death, Kanye continued to perform during concerts, and I don’t think he had time to properly grief.

I’m not making excuses for him, but maybe that’s why he’s prone to random outbursts.

Whitney Houston peforms on X Factor

Pop singer Whitney Houston made a guest appearance on the UK show “X Factor” (which is the UK version of American Idol).

Houston, along with Clive Davis, served as mentors to the contestants while they tried to sing her songs.   S

She also performed her new song “Million Dollar Bill.” The performance clip is posted below.

This wasn’t one of her greatest performances, but it’s presentable. (althought there were a few odd moments).  She even had a wardrobe malfunction.

Jermaine Jackson sued over child support

Jermaine Jackson’s former wife Alejandra Jackson filed a lawsuit against the singer, claiming he failed to pay $35,000 in child support payments.

The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County.  According to TMZ, Alejandra claims Jermaine lied to the court when he said he only made $35,000 in 2008.

Jermaine was a member of the Jackson 5 group.  He is Michael and Janet Jackson’s older brother.

I admit I’m not familiar with Jermaine’s finances.  But I’m pretty sure he was telling the court the truth when he said he only made $35,000 in 2008.

Jermaine hasn’t had a steady income since his Jackson 5 days.  Honestly, I’m surprised he even earned $35,000 in a year.
