American Idol contestant says Simon Cowell made her drug addiction worse
Season one American Idol contestant Nikki McKibbin says she used to be a drug addict and an alcoholic, and she suffereed from depression, and Idol judge Simon Cowell is to blame.
In an interview with US Weekly, McKibbin says Simon’s cruel comments affected her.
She said, “I came out of Idol with a lack of self-confidence. I think I had my first solo in school when I was 5, and I got more as I got older: That’s the biggest compliment in choir. I had never been told I wasn’t good enough. Having to hear it for so many weeks from Simon Cowell killed me inside. I couldn’t get the s–t he had said to me out of my head. It drove me deeper into my depression. I wouldn’t say that this was Simon’s fault. It just added to the addict that I already was.”
McKibbin placed third on the first season of American Idol. She did receive alot of harsh criticism from Simon, but she wasn’t the only one. Simon is harsh toward alot of contestants.
Although Simon’s comments are usually cruel, he is not responsible for any of her addictions. I think she might be using him as an excuse.
