What the Food Network Fuss is About

Six local restaurants hit the jackpot by drawing a visit from Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” last year.
Click on the restaurants below to watch host Guy Fieri visiting Ingrid’s Kitchen, The Diner is Norman, Nic’s Grill, Eischen’s Bar in Okarche, Mama E’s Wings and Waffles and Cattlemen’s Steakhouse.
But this wasn’t the first time Fieri has set foot on the Red Earth. He previously visited Leo’s, The Rock Cafe in Stroud, and Clanton’s in Vinita.
Been to any of these places? Tell me what you thought.

About a year ago, my wife and I took a little “Anniversary Jaunt” to Eureka Springs, ARK, via Miami/Grand Lake, OK where my brother and his wife reside.
We took the kinfolk to dinner at “The Cafe on The Route”, in Baxter Springs, KS (just across the Oklahoma State Line on Historic Route 66). We did so, in part, because this place–later featured as a Food Network GuyF “discovery”–was real good the first time we all ate there (many years ago) and did a FANTASTIC job, following that, catering my brother’s nephew’s wedding (somewhat more recently). On the most recent visit, I enjoyed the Aztec Chicken that Guy F’s Signed Poster recommended.
During our brief stay in NE OK, on that trip, we happened to go to Clanton’s–in Vinita (the town famous for only having one gas station–and for the visit by Guy F). My SIL Sue said: It’s really good “Home Cookin’” . . . And it was. It wasn’t until we were leaving that I saw Guy’s Poster on the wall! I made a point of trying to catch “The Clanton’s Episode” and eventually did. Guy said Clanton’s was good even before I knew Clanton’s existed–and it turned out to be even better than he might have indicated. This sort of lends credibility to “Guy’s Opinion, FoodCriticWise”.
Finally, on our way back from Eureka Springs (FYI/BTW: don’t go out of your way to eat at [The Authentic GermanSwiss Restaurant or the Italian one either for that matter) we found ourselves in Stroud, OK around lunchtime and there was The Rock Cafe. (The pre-fire one.) I suggested a GuyF Trifecta.
It was all that he said it would be (ambiance-wise), plus the food was excellent.
We recently dined in the rebuilt version and it was just as good. I was just sorry that the owner lost not only all of the Traveler’s Journals that were there to fill out by all passers-by who chose to do so (and contained some great little notes from all over the world) but also the signed Food Network Guy poster that adorned one–(semi-c.1952 greasy wall)–of the original place.
(BTW: The Alligator Burger–a first for me, on the first visit–was just as good as Guy indicated on camera that it was. In fact, it was so tasty that I had another one the second time around. I’m looking forward to their Schnitzel the next time I’m in Stroud. Like maybe for the Wine Tasting Festival in June.)

When my wife and I married and we were planning the reception she only had one request. No specific wants or needs in terms of decorations or music or flowers or location. She didn’t care what food was served, save for one request that was absolutely non-negotiable. She wanted thumb-print cookies from Ingrid’s served so that “everyone we care about can experience how wonderful those cookies are.” That should tell you everything you need to know about Ingrid’s, and about my wonderful wife.
