Fast forward a few months and let’s talk about the top colors for fall ’09. In conjunction with New York Fashion Week fall ’09, which started today, Pantone announced its Top 10 colors for fall. With all the fall ’08 merchandise on sale right now, maybe you can score a sweater, jacket or dress in one of these new colors Such a deal!

The Fashion Color Report Fall 2009 names these top 10 colors:

*American Beauty

*Purple Heart

* Honey Yellow

* Iron

* Creme Brulee

* Nomad

* Burnt Sienna

* Rapture Rose

* Warm Olive

* Majolica Blue

“This fall 2009 palette is more unique and thoughtful than the typical autumnal hues of years past,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Designers recognize the desire for fundamental basics that speak to currernt economic conditions, but also understand the need to incorporate vibrant color to grab the consumers’ eyes and entice them to buy.”

Subtle contrasts make up the diverse palette, according to the report. This season, designers play with a broad spectrum of color resulting in distinct, yet cohesive combinations. The season offers choice and diversity, but the unexpected integration of colors makes it appealing.

American Beauty is a true red, a feel-good color. Purple Heart offers a sense of refinement and sensuality. A warmer, more subdued Honey Yellow carries the 2009 color of the year, Mimosa, through to fall and winter with its golden tones.

Iron is neither gray or black. Creme Brulee is a grayed-down beige and Nomad bridges the gap between beige and light gray. Burnt Sienna is a deepened, earthy shade of orange. Rapture Rose is a blend of fuchsia and soft pink. Teal blue best describes Majolica blue and Warm Olive is a rich yellow-green.

In celebration of Fashion Week comes a season three marathon of “America’s Next Top Model Obsessed” from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Feb. 15 on the Oxygen channel.

Judge Jay Alexander offers his thoughts on why fans obsess over the show. He and a few models even divulge shocking (oh my!) secrets about past seasons.

With New York Fashion Week starting today, the show also offers these 10 tips for walking the runway:

1. Never wear stripper heels. (Season 6, Dani Evans falls on the runway in her stripper heels and sprains her pinky toe.)

2. Beware of wardrobe malfunctions. (Season 8, Sarah VonDerHarr’s breast was accidentally revealed at a high school runway show in front of students and parents.)

3. Runways are for land, not sea. (Season 4, models have a walk-off on an under-water plexiglass runway.)

4. You break, you buy. (Season 9, Chantal Jones knocked over a stilt performer at China’s Forbidden City fashion show.)

5. The hottest place for fashion is in New York City. (Season 10, models have a Times Square fashion show.)

6. The Lord works in mysterious ways. (Season 6, jade Cole and Joannie Dodd have a “swirl off” during a church fashion show.

7. Amazing fashion will make you go crazy. (Season 9, Jay Alexander teaches the models to walk the runway in a straightjacket.)

8. When given a choice, wear heels and not roller skates. (Season 3, models fall constantly while doing a photo shoot on roller skates.)

9. It has all been done before. (Season 2, Camille McDonald proclaims she has a signature walk that would make her famous; she was voted off on the 8th episode.)

10. Don’t worry, be happy. (Season 7, CariDee English goes crazy insane during her sesaon finale “crazy bride ghost” runway show.

And the uncolor. The palette goes from brights (fuchsia) to in-your-face citrus shades (yellow and orange) to nude hues.

“New York’s fashion designers encourage hopeful attitudes with lively colors, while sophisticated, grounded hues address the need for stability in times of economic uncertainty,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Here’s Pantone’s Top 10, in no particular order:

1. Fuchsia Red

2. Salmon Rose

3. Palace Blue

4. Lucite Green

5. Super Lemon

6. Dark Citron

7. Lavender

8. Vibrant Green

9. Slate Gray

10. Rose Dust

<!--Fall ’08 saw blue and purple rise to the forefront of fashion. As is often true, colors evolve from season to season, and spring ’09 is no exception. Palace Blue, a favorite among designers this season, takes a steadfast, classic, spring navy-like tone and makes it sparkle. Paired with just about any color in the report, it offers many intriguing spring combinations. Taking purple in a lighter direction, Lavender presents a softer, more summery hue, extending the mystical aspects of purple available last fall.
