Who else but Spanx would come up with a luxury body shaping collection? Haute Conture feaures power-lace camisoles, luxe thongs, V-neck camsioles with shaping power mesh and sheer mid-thigh shapers.

Many of these lace and sheer pieces aren’t meant to be hidden either.  A little lace peeking out can be a good thing. Bottom line: They provide extra coverage and support while looking all-out sexy.

The thong retails for $88, with prices going up to $198 for the lace couture camisole. Check out Haute Contour online at www.spanx.com.

Can’t suck it in, guys? Get the man girdle

man-girdle-2.jpgGuys, you’ve the manbag and mantyhose.  Are you ready for the man girdle, or mirdle?

A London department store launched the shapewear this week, according to the Associated Press. The sleeveless tank tops and long-sleeve T-shirts are infused with a special blend of Spandex, nylon and polyester so you have less jiggle around the middle. Don’t think you’re going to look like you suddenly developed six-pack abs.

Control underwear will be available later this year.

“It makes waists look trimmer, improves posture and helps men get into the latest slimmer-fitting suits,” said Gavin Jones, head of the Australian company Equmen. “Men are under a lot of pressure right now to perform financially, socially and romantically. Why shouldn’t we have the same products that women have had for years to make us feel better?”

Equmen’s undershirts promise “to do for guy’s chests what Spanx have done for flabby female thighs.”

Leaving the 1800s behind

corset.pngAfter spending a few days in Natchez, Miss., touring antebellum homes of the 1800s with my mother and daughter,  this is all  have to say: I’m glad I live in the days of Spanx.

A few of the homes had period dresses and garments on display, and though I’ve seen such clothes before, I am always surprised at how small the ladies and the garments are. Perhaps the corsets stunted their growth.

Really, those lace-up corsets had to be unbelievably painful. Talk about sacrificing comfort for fashion.

A wasp waist is wasted if you can’t breathe and pass out. Which explains the fainting couches in the houses. One doctor in the 1800s even blamed tight-laced corsets for scoliosis and uneven alignment of of breasts, hips and shoulders.

So, ladies, no more complaining about pointed-toe shoes. We’ve got it good. We’ve got choices. And we’ve got Spanx.

Lindsay’s SPANX moment

lindsaylohan.jpg

When the wind caught Lindsay Lohan’s Dolce & Gabbana mini at the MTV Movie Awards, the whole world got a peek at her SPANX. Yep, even those without an inch to pinch like undergarments that slim and smooth.  Luckily, Lohan was wearing black panties and a SPANX Hide & Sleek Slip.  No Britney moments for Lindsay. For that I think we’re all thankful.
