Bring on spring weather, feminine blouses and sandals

Ahhh, Monday. The start of another week. Another week digging through the closet trying to come up with something to wear that’s springlike yet tough enough to handle a weather forecast that just barely inches into the 70s.

Of course, the weather can change — hopefully for the better. I’m just ready for consistent spring weather in the 70s. I want to wear open-toe shoes and flimsy, feminine floral blouses without getting goosebumps.

Enough of the roller coaster weather.   It’s time to heat things up a bit.  I want to show off my bubble gum pink toe nails before the polish starts chipping!

TOMS Shoes … helping children in need

TOMS Shoes

TOMS Shoes

I love the idea behind TOMS Shoes. Buy a pair of shoes and one pair is donated to children in need. My column today was about TOMS Shoes and founder Blake Mycoskie, but there is so much more to know about this man and his mission.

Read more about Blake,  his team and where to find Oklahoma retailers at www.tomsshoes.com

Wiggle your pedicured piggies into these metallic sandals

Mossimo ruffle wedge sandal from Target. We were photographing spring clothes last week, and the model pulled out of her shoe bag the cutest pair of pewter wedge sandals. “Do these look like Target shoes?” she asked.

Not hardly, and that’s not a slam against Target shoes. These are big time stylish and fashion forward. Since I had to go to Target that evening (honest, I really needed a can of L’Oreal Elnett hairspray),  I looked for the shoes. Only had two pairs left, so that should be a pretty good endorsement.  I did see plenty of other smart styles, too.

Online comments are very favorable about this shoe. Even the faux leather looks good. The wedge sandals cost $29.99, and I must say this picture doesn’t do them justice.  They look so much better in person. My only hang-up is that I prefer leather.

Check out this other cute sandal by Mossimo.  I hope the weather cooperates this week. It’s time to get out of closed-in pumps and into strappy sandals.

Two new limited-edition collections are coming to Target stores.

Relix Rey for Target is a handbag collection designed by accessories designers Lily Band and Sulaika Zarrouk.  Prices range from $19.99 to $49.99. The collection landed in stores today and will be on shelves until June 14.

The collection is inspired by the beach, with clutches, totes and oversized bucket bags in canvas and straw.  Gold shell trinm, studs and toggles, as well patent and metallic trim, add a heap of sophistication.

Other styles feature oversize rickrack prints that mimic ocean waves.

Target also collaborated with footwear designer Trish Carroll for the Miss Trish of Capri for Target collection, in stores April 5 through July 5.

The sandals are jewel-encrusted, inspired by the blue sea and sandy beaches. Prices range from $29.99 to $34.99.

Too many shoes? Check out Shoes Under

What a coincidence that just after I bought a new pair of shoes comes an e-mail touting an under-the-bed shoe drawer. How is that whoever send that e-mail knew that my closet was crammed with handbags, clothes and, of course, shoes. And more shoes.

The average American owns 19 pairs of shoes, according to a recent Consumer Reports survey. Finally, I’m above average on something!

Anyway, maybe you’ve heard of the new Shoes Under. The shoe organizer is compact, collapsible and will keep up to 12 pairs of shoes organized and accessible. The clear zip-off cover makes them easy to spot, too. So says the press info.

Shoes Under retails for $9.99 at Target, CVS, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Walmart and others. Check it out here.
