Paula Abdul is back on HSN tonight with her accessories collection. Tune in from 10 tonight until 1 a.m. Wednesday. She’ll be selling limited-edition pieces, earrings, rings, bracelets and items that she has been wearing on ”American Idol” all season.

The pieces in her Forever Your Girl collection sell for $20 to $80.

In my column today, I wrote about Houston jewelry designer Tia Neyman. The line, called Tia Mia, is extensive with earrings, cuffs, bracelets and necklaces adorned with semiprecious stones and pearls. “I’d rather have a big honking pearl than a diamond,” she said during a visit to Ruth Meyers Inc.

Here are some pictures of her jewelry. I snapped these during our interview, and I admit my photography skills don’t showcase her talent. I advise checking out her jewelry in person next time you’re close to Ruth Meyers Inc. in Nichols Hills Plaza.

When I was in Dallas in March for the apparel market, I looked for Texas jewelry designer JoAnne Brooks. I interviewed her in October during the market, and she’ such an inspiration and really a fun person.

She wasn’t in the same location, but when I was in another showroom I overheard some people talking about this jewelry designer. One of the women was wearing this wonderful necklace. I asked the designer’s name and it was JoAnne. She had moved to another showroom.

JoAnne was stricken with

polio when she was 4; her right arm and hand and left arm are completely paralyzed. When she’s making jewelry, she hooks her thumb and finger around her left big toe for leverage. She is so skilled with her feet that it takes about 30 to 45 minutes to make a simple piece and an hour for multiple strands.

Zales lets loose the animals … and some of them are wearing diamonds

Zales has introduced a new jewelry collection called Party Animals, featuring pendants, earrings and necklaces adorned with butte

The whimsical pieces are embellished with diamonds, colored diamonds, abalone and malachite. The collection features five lines including bug bling, deep-sea baubles, soaring sparkles, fierce and ferocious, and enchanted forests. Each line includes a variety of animal styles.

Prices fall into three categories: $100 and less, $300 and less and less than $1,000.

R.J. Graziano’s new summer jewels

The first day of spring is still two days off, but I couldn’t wait to share these pictures from R.J. Graziano’s summer/transition line. The collection is called Congo and it features bold, sculptured metals accented by rare woods, tiger eye and bone.

Big jewelry, big statement

Statement jewelry is big this season. Big pieces can carry big price tags, though.

Fine jewelry designer Dana Levy of Dana Rebecca Designs encourages shoppers not to spend too much money on a trendy piece. “Right now, the biggest trend in jewelry is the chunky, statement necklace. You can get a lot of bang for your buck with inexpensive options from places like Banana Republic and J. Crew.”

She recommends pairing a strong necklace with less substantial earrings that are classic and timeless.

The Academy Awards show is over, but the chatter continues. Who wore what gown best? Who needed a shot of color? Who needed a dress one size larger? Ahhh, fashion writers can’t quit talking. Me included.

Fashion is subjective, we all know that. Put me in a room with five other fashion writers and my red carpet faves may be on someone else’s worst list. It happens.

Royal flush … woman’s $70,000 diamond ring goes down the toilet

Here’s an interesting tidbit from Fashion Gossip Weekly.

A California woman’s 7-carat diamond ring accidentally slipped into a toilet in a restaurant restroom just as it was flushing. The city and several plumbers told Allison Berry the $70,000 stone was a lost cause and could not be retrieved.

Eventually, Mr. Rooter plumber Mike Roberts, using a tiny video camera, spotted the gem several feet down the drain pipe and dug up the floor with a jack hammer. The bill came to $6,200.
