JC Penney: New pricing, new brands, liberal returns and Ellen

The wait is over. JC Penney’s big news has been announced. The chain has introduced a new pricing strategy, a new logo, new brands and a liberal return policy.

Called Fair and Square, the pricing strategy includes three types of prices: Everyday, Regular prices;  Month-Long Values, even better prices; and Best Prices, the store’s  lowest prices, which always happen on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of every month.

This pricing schedule will take the place of relentless sales, coupons, rebates and retail gimmicks. The chain will offer 12 promotional events each year, on a monthly calendar. Each month will include even better values on the things customers are looking to buy during the month, according to the company.

JC Penney also plans to re-invent the stores with a series of 80 to 100 brand shops. New brands include Martha Stewart and l’amour nanette lepore.

The new JC Penney brand identity includes a new logo and a familiar face, Ellen DeGeneres, who will be the pitch woman for the company.  And the new return policy is simple — any item, anytime, anywhere.

The shopping experience begins Feb.1 with the new logo and pricing strategy. Then, beginning in August, the chain will start a month-by-month, shop-by-shop strategy to update all stores with new merchandise and presentation.

Hillary Clinton’s headband … is it a do or don’t?

Hillary Clinton has been wearing headbands off and on for at least two decades — and probably long before that. She sported one again last night for President Obama’s State of the Union address. This time it was a sliver of a band accented with crystals to pull back her soft flip.

Headbands seem to be enjoying a fashion moment — Charlize Theron and Michelle Williams embraced the look for the Golden Globes.

So, what do you think of Clinton’s headband? Should it be a do or don’t for her? Here are two photos from two different angles from last night’s address.

Vintage video: How-to hair care from the 1950s

I saw this vintage video about haircare on  Bella Sugar recently. Imagine washing your hair every other week. Evidently that was the norm in the early 1950s. Oh, and let’s not forget putting hair in pincurls. And the brushing.  This video is so much fun that I went looking for more, which I will share later. Enjoy.

Pucker up to BECCA Lip Plumping Moisture Gloss

Lip Plumping Moisture Gloss - Clear

As I was digging around in my makeup drawer the other day I came across a product that I had mistakenly tossed in with extra cosmetic brushes.

It was a tube of  BECCA Lip Plumping Moisture Gloss. Honestly, I forget I even had it. The BECCA public relations people sent me several products to try a few months ago. I remember swiping this on my lips and loving the way it felt,  but then, out of sight, out of mind.

Now  it’s one of favorites. It plumps and hydrates and gives the ultimate shine. It’s perfect for those times when you don’t want or need color on your lips but don’t want them to go naked either. Of course, it works over lipstick just fine, too.

The clear gloss contains atellocollagen to increase the lip’s natural collagen and is rich in nourishing ingredients such as jojoba, avocado oil, vitamin E, shea butter, cocoa butter and honey extract.

I love the gentle tingling and the scent — Tahitian vanilla and cinnamon. And there’s no burning or stinging. Just smooth, nourished lips.

The gloss sells for $23. In Oklahoma City, you can only find it at Trichology Salon, 14101 N May. Phone: (405) 302-6499

New stores opening at The Shoppes at Oklahoma City

If you’re a fan of The Shoppes at Oklahoma City, the selection of stores is expanding.

Three new retailers will open this spring — Naartjie Kids and White House Black Market are expected to open March 8, and American Eagle Outfitters has plans to open April 11, according to a story in The Oklahoman. The stores will replace temporary occupants Book Warehouse, Calendar Club and Gigi’s Cupcakes.

Naartjie (pronounced nar chee) Kids is based in Salt Lake City, and this will be the first store in Oklahoma. The company has 52 stores in the U.S. as well as in South Africa, where the brand was founded, said Joe Norwood, marketing director for Naartjie Kids.
