Jessica Simpson to design jewelry for Zales

Jessica Simpson is designing a line of fine jewelry for Zales.
Is Zales the new Kohl’s when it comes to snagging celebrity lines?
Jessica Simpson’s latest venture is Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend, a diamond jewelry collection scheduled to land in Zales stores in October.
Last month, Zales announced that designer Vera Wang would design a line of wedding and engagement rings to be sold at the stores.
Simpson became popular as a singer, actress and reality star, but she really hit the mark in fashion. She already has mass appeal with a fashion empire estimated to be worth $1 billion. The Jessica Simpson Collection includes shoes, apparel, accessories and fragrances.
Her fine jewelry collection, offered in gold, silver, diamonds or a combination of the three, will range in price from $79 to $999, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
“Jewelry is such personal expression of style and taste. This collection has allowed me to create pieces that truly reflect who I am, and that can become a keepsake for lifetime,” Simpson told WWD, noting that the loops on the heart are taken from her actual script handwriting. “The collection is beautifully crafted. The designs are airy and artistic and so easy to wear.”

Coat check
I’m on the search for a lightweight coat. I came across this one on the H&M website. Made of jersey and lined, it’s double-breasted with front flap pockets. What’s more, it’s machine washable since it’s a cotton/polyester blend. Not that I would wash it. And the price is right at $59.95. What do you think?
Uptown Kids celebrates anniversary with carnival and Desmond Mason

Uptown Kids in Classen Curve knows how to celebrate. For its one-year anniversary, the children’s store, along with artist and former NBA basketball player Desmond Mason and Prevent Blindness Oklahoma, are hosting a carnival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
To get your child in on the fun, donate $5 for a wristband and unlimited carnival snacks, games, prizes, face painting, moon bounces, a petting zoo, balloon art and superheroes. Uptown Kids is at 5840 N Classen.
Children who get there early can participate in the Blank Canvas event and paint with Mason on one of the canvases to be sold at a charity auction on Sept. 22. The auction will benefit Prevent Blindness Oklahoma. A limited number of canvases are available, so this isn’t the day to sleep in.
Mason, an Oklahoma favorite, played basketball at at OSU, then with the Seattle Super Sonics, the OKC Hornets and the OKC Thunder. He studied art in college, and since leaving the NBA, has opened an art gallery in Oklahoma City.
Queen Latifah collection debuts Friday on HSN
Queen Latifah is adding another line to her resume — fashion designer. The actress and singer launches her new clothing and accessories collection Friday on HSN.
During an appearance on “Good Morning America,” she said she had always wanted to do a clothing collection because she felt there was a deficit in the stores for women her size who wanted to shop and wear fashionable pieces. With the Queen Collection, sizes range from 2 to 24, which is pretty awesome, she said.
Realistically, she said, America is very full-figured, very curvacious. “The reality is that we all have different shapes and different forms.”
She said she’s a champion for women; she wants all women to be connected. A petite woman shouldn’t be relegated to just a little petite section. Same for larger sizes.
She encourages women to choose pieces that are right for their body, that make them feel good.
The launch event will be from 11 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday, with additional showings from 9 a.m. to noon and 7 to 9 p.m. Learn more on hsn.com.

Beauty spotlight: Dark spot correctors

Since Clinique launched its Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector last year, other similar products with similar promises are starting to show up.
This interests me because I’m a former sun worshipper, and, yes, my skin is paying for my sins. I didn’t know any better back then. Now I do, and sunscreen is my best friend. I plan to make room on my vanity for a good spot corrector, too, when I find the best one.
Garnier Dark Spot Corrector: It is said to reduce the appearance of dark spots caused by aging, repeated environmental exposure, hormonal fluctuations, and even past acne damage. It is infused with potent Vitamin C to break up dark spots and lift them away. According to the company, skin looks instantly brighter and more evenly toned. Discolorations and spots fade in four weeks; in eight weeks, the size of spots are diminished. I’m tempted to try it, mostly because of the $16.99 price.

Lancome Bright Expert Dark Spot Corrector and Radiance Activator: Enriched with yeast extract, the comapny says the product virtually erases the appearance of dark spots to reveal an evenly radiant complexion. Clinical studies show 78.8 percent of women saw a reduction in the appearance of dark spots after four weeks of use; 82.3 percent of women saw an even toned complexion after four weeks of use. Price: $65 for a 1-ounce tube.
So, if you’ve found a spot corrector that really works, share.
A brow tweeze, please
I stopped in to see Lilly Stone of Sooo Lilly Cosmetics at her new location, inside Kokopelli at Northpark Mall. Be sure to check out her new space if you haven’t been yet.
While I was there, Lilly worked her tweezer magic on my brows. They had been neglected, though I do my best with a magnifying mirror and a pair of good tweezers.
Now, with cleaned-up brows and a shorter hairstyle, I’m ready for the rest of the week. It’s amazing how a little maintenance can make you feel and look so much better.
Here’s to regular trims and plucks.
Q&A with Seventeen magazine publisher
I really enjoy reading about the personal and private lives of high-powered executives in the fashion and magazine industries. The Daily caught up with Jayne Jamison, publisher of Seventeen magazine. She talks about living in the Hamptons, how teens have changed since she started at the magazine in 2003 and her best parenting advice.
