Sale alert: extra 30 percent off at Dillard’s
It’s Thursday, a great day to save money.
Dillard’s is offering an additional 30 percent off all permanently reduced items. I love these extra 30 percent off sales. This is when I pick up most of my stocking stuffers — earrings, socks, undies, collegiate T-shirts — and a lot of other things, too.
Happy shopping.
Sale alert: 30-40-50 percent off at Balliets

Tom Ford’s cat eye sunglasses simply “purrfect”
If I had an extra $360, these sunglasses would be adorning my face this summer. Come on, admit it. These Nikita cat eye sunglasses by Tom Ford are pretty glamorous.
What’s more, the exaggerated shape makes a real retro statement. Oh, and let’s not forget they’re functional. There will be no squinting allowed when wearing these beauties. And they protect precious peepers from harmful UV rays.
Stylish and functional. What more could I ask for? How about $360?
Heidi Klum to launch jewelry line on QVC
Another celebrity jewelry line is coming to QVC. Heidi Klum, supermodel and host of “Project Runway,” will launch her 35-piece costume jewelry collection on Sept. 8.
Called Wildlife by Heidi Klum, the collection’s debut will coincide with QVC’s special Fashion’s Night Out broadcast from New York. Cocktail rings, necklaces, earrings and bracelets will range in price from $20 to $300.
“All of the pieces are statement pieces,” Klum told Women’s Wear Daily.
Klum already has a line of activewear, called HKNB, with New Balance. She also announced earlier this year that her fragrance, named Shine, will launch in September.
Michael Jackson “Thriller” jacket sold at auction
A red-and-black jacket worn by Michael Jackson in the “Thriller” video fetched a pretty price at auction Sunday in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The jacket sold for $1.8 million. It had a pre-auction estimate of $200,000 to $400,000. A story by the Associated Press said the jacket was purchased by Milton Verret, a commodities trader from Austin, Texas. The iconic jacket is one of two Jackson wore during the filming of the 1983 “Thriller” video.
Verret told the Associated Press that the jacket will be sent on tour and used to raise funds children’s charities. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Shambala Preserve, which houses the two Bengal tigers the singer owned.
Banana Republic to launch “Mad Men”-inspired collection
A “Mad Men”-inspired collection for men and women is coming to a Banana Republic store near you. The chain collaborated on the design with “Mad Men” costume director and Emmy award-winner Janie Bryant. Look for the collection in stores Aug. 11
Inspired by the award-winning series, which returns for a fifth season in early 2012, the Banana Republic “Mad Men” collection offers all the fabulous looks of the 1960s that make fashion-loving viewers tune into the show. Nearly 65 pieces of clothing and accessories for men and women will be offered.
“Working with Janie to gain a true understanding of the ‘Mad Men’ look and feel was a delight,” says Banana Republic Creative Director Simon Kneen. “Janie was instrumental in helping us achieve the series aesthetic and standard of authenticity with this capsule collection, offering sketches, her own inspirations and actual artifacts from the production set to help inspire the ‘Mad Men’ within all of us.”

The women’s pieces are feminine and reminiscent of all the polish and luxury of the era, including trench coats, tailored dresses, high-waisted skirts, silk tie-neck blouses and statement accessories like print scarves and leopard print pump heels.
Fans can also check out the popular “Mad About Style” webisodes featuring Bryant and Kneen, who appear together in new video segments that document the making of the collection. The videos will be shown on www.amctv.com/madmen beginning Aug.11.

AMC and Banana Republic will also repeat its popular “Mad Men” Casting Call, a contest where customers can enter to win a walk-on role on the television show and a $1,000 Banana Republic shopping spree. Last year, nearly 10,000 people entered the contest and more than 7 million votes were cast to determine the finalists. Go to www.madmencastingcall.com for details.

Some runway fashion shows just make me smile. Betsey Johnson always puts together something fun. Designers Isaac Mizrahi and Bob Mackie were the best at providing entertainment while still showing clothes that were wearable. I loved their shows.
Now comes Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck, whose spring-summer 2012 menswear collection has some wondering what he was thinking. Are you smiling or shaking your head in disbelief?
Depilar System offers permanent hair removal

Unwanted hair. Most of us wax it, tweeze it, shave it. It always grows back. Some prefer more expensive and permanent options — laser or electrolysis.
Now comes another permanent hair removal treatment. Depilar System, an enzyme-based treatment that is performed immediately after waxing, is said to effectively remove unwanted body. The gel formula targets and destroys open-and-empty hair follicles. The company says it is more effective and less expensive than laser, IPL and electrolysis.
A treatment takes approximately one to 10 minutes, depending on the target area. Regular treatments every four to six weeks over a 12 to 24-month period are recommended to effectively destroy all hair cells. The treatment is only available through licensed professionals. No participating salons or spas in Oklahoma are listed on the website.
